1 Samuel 23

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 News was then brought to David, 'The Philistines are besieging Keilah and plundering the threshing-floors'.	1 A David le llegó esta noticia: «Los filisteos están combatiendo contra Queilá y saqueando las eras».
2 David consulted Yahweh, 'Shal I go and fight these Philistines?' Yahweh replied to David, 'Go andfight the Philistines and save Keilah.'	2 Entonces David preguntó al Señor: «¿Debo ir a atacar a esos filisteos?». El Señor dijo a David: «Sí, ve; derrotarás a los filisteos y salvarás a Queilá».
3 But David's men said to him, 'We are already afraid here in Judah; how much more, then, if we go toKeilah to fight the Philistine troops!'	3 Pero los hombres de David le dijeron: «Si nosotros tenemos miedo aquí, en Judá, ¡cuánto más sí vamos a Queilá contra los escuadrones filisteos!».
4 So David consulted Yahweh again and Yahweh replied, 'Be on your way; go down to Keilah, since Ishall give the Philistines into your power.'	4 David interrogó de nuevo al Señor, y el Señor le respondió, diciendo: «Baja ya mismo a Queilá, porque yo entrego a los filisteos en tus manos».
5 So David and his men went to Keilah and fought the Philistines and carried off their cattle and inflicteda great defeat on them. Thus David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.	5 David fue a Queilá con sus hombres; atacó a los filisteos, se llevó sus rebaños y les infligió una gran derrota. Así salvó David a los habitantes de Queilá.
6 When Abiathar son of Ahimelech took refuge with David, he went down to Keilah with the ephod in hishand.	6 Abiatar, hijo de Ajimélec, que había ido a refugiarse junto a David, bajó a Queilá con el efod en la mano.
7 When word was brought to Saul that David had gone to Keilah he said, 'God has delivered him intomy power: he has trapped himself by going into a town with gates and bars.'	7 Y cuando informaron a Saúl que David había entrado en Queilá, pensó: «Dios lo ha entregado en mis manos. Porque él mismo se ha cortado la retirada, metiéndose en una ciudad con puertas y cerrojos».
8 Saul called all the people to arms, to go down to Keilah and besiege David and his men.	8 Luego convocó a todo el pueblo a las armas, para bajar a Queilá y sitiar a David y a sus hombres.
9 David, however, was aware that Saul was plotting evil against him, and said to Abiathar the priest,'Bring the ephod.'	9 Al saber que Saúl tramaba su ruina, David ordenó al sacerdote Abiatar: «Presenta el efod».
10 David said, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, your servant has heard that Saul is preparing to come to Keilahand destroy the town because of me.	10 Luego dijo: «Señor, Dios de Israel, tu servidor ha oído que Saúl intenta venir a Queilá, para destruir la ciudad por causa mía.
11 Wil Saul come down as your servant has heard? Yahweh, God of Israel, I beg you, let your servantknow.' Yahweh replied, 'He wil come down.'	11 ¿Es verdad que Saúl bajará, como tu servidor ha oído decir? Señor, Dios de Israel, dígnate comunicárselo a tu servidor». El Señor respondió: «Sí, él bajará».
12 David then went on to ask, 'Wil the notables of Keilah hand me and my men over to Saul?' Yahwehreplied, 'They wil hand you over.'	12 David continuó diciendo: «Y los señores de Queilá, ¿me entregarán a mí y a mis hombres en manos de Saúl?». «Sí, respondió el Señor; ellos te entregarán».
13 At this, David made off with his men, about six hundred in number; they left Keilah and went wherethey could. When Saul was told that David had escaped from Keilah, he abandoned the expedition.	13 David partió con sus hombres, que eran unos seiscientos; salieron de Queilá y anduvieron a la ventura. Y cuando informaron a Saúl que David había escapado de Queilá, él desistió de su expedición.
14 David stayed in the desert, in the strongholds; he stayed in the mountains, in the desert of Ziph; Saulkept looking for him day after day, but God did not deliver him into his power.	14 David anduvo por el desierto, en los sitios bien protegidos, y se estableció en la zona montañosa, en el desierto de Zif. Durante todo ese tiempo, Saúl trató de encontrarlo, pero Dios no lo puso en sus manos.
15 David was aware that Saul had mounted an expedition to take his life. David was then at Horesh inthe desert of Ziph.	15 David advirtió que Saúl se había puesto en campaña para atentar contra su vida. Por ese entonces, él se encontraba en el desierto de Zif, en Jorsa.
16 Jonathan son of Saul set off and went to David at Horesh and encouraged him in the name of God.	16 Jonatán, hijo de Saúl, se puso en camino y fue a verlo allí. Lo reconfortó en nombre de Dios,
17 'Do not be afraid,' he said, 'for my father Saul's hand wil not reach you. You are to reign over Israel,and I shall be second to you. Saul my father is himself aware of this.'	17 y le dijo: «No temas, porque la mano de mi padre Saúl no te alcanzará. Tú reinarás sobre Israel, y yo seré tu segundo. Hasta mi padre Saúl lo sabe muy bien».
18 And the two made a pact before Yahweh. David stayed at Horesh and Jonathan went home.	18 Los dos hicieron un pacto delante del Señor, y David se quedó en Jorsa, mientras que Jonatán se fue a su casa.
19 Some men from Ziph then went up to Saul at Gibeah and said, 'Look, David is hiding among us inthe strongholds at Horesh, on the Hil of Hachilah to the south of the wastelands.	19 Unos hombres de Zif subieron a Guibeá, donde estaba Saúl, y le dijeron: «David está escondido entre nosotros, en los refugios de Jorsa, sobre la colina de Jaquilá, al sur de la estepa.
20 Now whenever you wish to go down, my lord king, do so; we shal make it our task to hand him overto the king.'	20 Por eso, rey, baja si es que así lo deseas, y nosotros nos encargaremos de ponerlo en tus manos»
21 Saul replied, 'May you be blessed by Yahweh for sympathising with me.	21 Saúl les respondió: «¡Que el Señor los bendiga, por haberse comparecido de mí!
22 Go and make doubly sure, find out exactly what place he frequents, for I have been told that he isvery cunning.	22 Pero vayan, se lo ruego, y asegúrense bien. Fíjense por dónde anda y quién lo ha visto por allí, porque me han dicho que es muy astuto.
23 Take careful note of al the hiding places where he lurks, and come back to me when you are certain.I shal then come with you and, if he is in the country, I shall track him down through every clan in Judah!'	23 Observen y reconozcan todos los escondites donde podría ocultarse. Cuando estén bien seguros, vuelvan a verme, y yo iré con ustedes. Y si está en el país, registraré todos los clanes de Judá hasta encontrarlo».
24 Setting off they went to Ziph ahead of Saul. Meanwhile, David and his men were in the desert ofMaon, in the plain to the south of the wastelands.	24 Ellos se dirigieron hacia Zif, precediendo a Saúl. Mientras tanto, David y sus hombres estaban en el desierto de Maón, en la depresión al sur de la estepa.
25 When Saul and his men set out in search, David was told and went down to the gorge runningthrough the desert of Maon.	25 Saúl y sus hombres salieron a buscarlo; pero alguien avisó a David, y él bajó a la Roca que está en el desierto de Maón. Saúl se enteró y se lanzó en persecución de David por el desierto de Maón.
26 Saul and his men proceeded along one side of the mountain, David and his men along the other.David was hurrying to escape from Saul, while Saul and his men were trying to cross over to David and hismen's side, to capture them,	26 Saúl iba por un lado de la montaña, y David con sus hombres por el lado opuesto. David apresuró su marcha para escapar de Saúl. Y cuando Saúl y sus hombres estaban a punto de cercar a David y a los suyos para capturarlos,
27 when a messenger came to Saul and said, 'Come at once, the Philistines have invaded the country.'	27 un mensajero fue a decir a Saúl: «Ven en seguida, porque los filisteos están incursionando por el país».
28 So Saul broke off his pursuit of David and went to oppose the Philistines. That is why the place iscal ed the Gorge of Separations.	28 Saúl dejó entonces de perseguir a David y partió al encuentro de los filisteos. Por eso aquel lugar fue llamado «Roca de las Separaciones».
