1 Boaz, meanwhile, had gone up to the gate and sat down, and the relative of whom he had spoken thencame by. Boaz said to him, 'Here, my friend, come and sit down'; the man came and sat down.	1 - Venne dunque Booz alla porta della città, e vi s'assise. Quando poi vide passar quell'altro parente del quale s'è parlato di sopra, gli disse, chiamandolo col suo nome: «Vieni un po' qua e siedi». Quegli venne, e sedè.
2 Boaz then picked out ten of the town's elders and said, 'Sit down here'; they sat down.	2 Booz allora chiamò dieci degli anziani della città; e disse loro: «Sedete qui».
3 Boaz then said to the man who had the right of redemption, 'Naomi, who has come back from the Plainsof Moab, is sel ing the piece of land that belonged to our brother, Elimelech.	3 Sedutisi quelli, disse Booz a quel parente: «Noemi, tornata dalla terra di Moab, vuol vendere la sua parte del campo di Elimelec nostro fratello;
4 I thought I should tel you about this and say, "Acquire it in the presence of the men who are sitting hereand in the presence of the elders of my people. If you want to use your right of redemption, redeem it; if you donot, tel me so that I know, for I am the only person to redeem it besides yourself, and I myself come after you." 'The man said, 'I am wil ing to redeem it.'	4 ha voluto fartelo sapere, e dirtelo io stesso alla presenza di questi anziani del nostro popolo. Se lo vuoi acquistare per diritto di parentela, compralo e possedilo. Se poi non ti piace, dimmelo, affinchè io sappia che cosa debbo fare, non essendovi altri parenti, eccetto te che sei il primo, ed io che sono il secondo». Quegli rispose: «Comprerò io il campo».
5 Boaz then said, 'The day you acquire the field from Naomi, you also acquire Ruth the Moabitess, thewife of the man who has died, to perpetuate the dead man's name in his inheritance.'	5 Booz gli disse: «Se tu compri il campo da quella donna, devi anche prendere in moglie Rut Moabita, che fu già moglie del defunto, per far rivivere il nome del tuo parente nella sua discendenza».
6 The man with the right of redemption then said, 'I cannot use my right of redemption withoutjeopardising my own inheritance. Since I cannot use my right of redemption, exercise the right yourself.'	6 Quegli rispose: «Cedo al diritto di parentela, perchè non voglio estinguere la posterità della mia famiglia. Usa tu del mio privilegio, al quale volentieri dichiaro di rinunziare».
7 Now, in former times, it was the custom in Israel to confirm a transaction in matters of redemption orinheritance by one of the parties taking off his sandal and giving it to the other. This was how agreements wereratified in Israel.	7 Era antico costume in Israele, tra parenti, che quando uno cedeva ad un altro il suo diritto, per ratificare la concessione, il primo si toglieva un calzare, e lo dava all'altro. Era questa in Israele la testimonianza della rinunzia.
8 So, when the man with the right of redemption said to Boaz, 'Acquire it for yourself,' he took off hissandal.	8 Disse dunque Booz al suo parente: «Levati il calzare». E quegli subito se lo levò.
9 Boaz then said to the elders and al the people there, 'Today you are witnesses that from Naomi Iacquire everything that used to belong to Elimelech, and everything that used to belong to Mahlon and Chilion	9 Allora Booz protestò innanzi agli anziani ed a tutto il popolo: «Voi mi siete oggi testimoni che io entro in possesso di tutto quanto apparteneva ad Elimelec, a Chelion ed a Maalon, comprandolo da Noemi;
10 and that I am also acquiring Ruth the Moabitess, Mahlon's widow, to be my wife, to perpetuate thedead man's name in his inheritance, so that the dead man's name will not be lost among his brothers and at thegate of his town. Today you are witnesses to this.'	10 e che io prendo in sposa Rut Moabita, già moglie di Maalon, per far rivivere nella sua discendenza il nome del defunto, affinchè il suo nome non sparisca dalla sua famiglia, dalla sua parentela, dal suo popolo. Voi, dico, me ne siete testimoni».
11 All the people at the gate said, 'We are witnesses'; and the elders said, 'May Yahweh make the womanabout to enter your family like Rachel and Leah who together built up the House of Israel. Grow mighty inEphrathah, be renowned in Bethlehem!	11 E tutto il popolo che era dinanzi alla porta, e gli anziani, risposero: «Ne siamo testimoni. Faccia il Signore, di questa donna che entra in casa tua, come fece di Rachele e di Lia le quali fondarono la casa di Israele; sia esempio di virtù in Efrata, ed abbia nome glorioso in Betleem;
12 And through the children Yahweh wil give you by this young woman, may your family be like the familyof Perez, whom Tamar bore to Judah.'	12 divenga la casa tua come la casa di Fares che Tamar partorì a Giuda, per la posterità che Dio ti farà avere da questa tua sposa».
13 So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife. And when they came together, Yahweh made herconceive and she bore a son.	13 Tolse dunque Booz Rut per sua moglie, e fu con lei, ed il Signore le dette di concepire e partorire un figlio.
14 And the women said to Naomi, 'Blessed be Yahweh who has not left you today without anyone toredeem you. May his name be praised in Israel!	14 Dicevano le donne a Noemi: «Benedetto il Signore, il quale non ha voluto che mancasse un continuatore della tua famiglia, ed ha conservato il suo nome in Israele;
15 The child wil be a comfort to you and the prop of your old age, for he has been born to the daughter-in-law who loves you and is more to you than seven sons.'	15 ti ha dato chi ti consolerà e ti sosterrà nella tua vecchiaia; t'è nato infatti da una nuora che ti ama, ed è per te molto meglio che sette figliuoli».
16 And Naomi, taking the child, held him to her breast; and she it was who looked after him.	16 Noemi prese il fanciullino, e se lo pose in grembo, e faceva con lui da nutrice e guardiana.
17 And the women of the neighbourhood gave him a name. 'A son', they said, 'has been born to Naomi,'and they cal ed him Obed. This was the father of Jesse, the father of David.	17 Le donne del vicinato si rallegravano con lei, dicendo: «È nato un figlio a Noemi». E gli misero nome Obed. Questi fu poi padre di Isai che fu padre di Davide.
18 These are the descendants of Perez. Perez fathered Hezron,	18 È questa la discendenza di Fares: Fares fu padre di Esron,
19 Hezron fathered Ram, Ram fathered Amminadab,	19 Esron di Aram, Aram di Aminadab,
20 Amminadab fathered Nahshon, Nahshon fathered Salmon,	20 Aminadab di Naasson, Naasson di Salmon,
21 Salmon fathered Boaz, Boaz fathered Obed,	21 Salmon di Booz, Booz di Obed,
22 Obed fathered Jesse, and Jesse fathered David.'	22 Obed di Isai, Isai di Davide.
