Ruth 4

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Boaz, meanwhile, had gone up to the gate and sat down, and the relative of whom he had spoken thencame by. Boaz said to him, 'Here, my friend, come and sit down'; the man came and sat down.	1 Or Booz était monté à la porte et s'y était assis, et voici que le parent dont Booz avait parlé vint àpasser. "Toi, dit Booz, approche et assieds-toi ici." L'homme s'approcha et vint s'asseoir.
2 Boaz then picked out ten of the town's elders and said, 'Sit down here'; they sat down.	2 Booz prit dix hommes parmi les anciens de la ville: "Asseyez-vous ici", dit-il, et ils s'assirent.
3 Boaz then said to the man who had the right of redemption, 'Naomi, who has come back from the Plainsof Moab, is sel ing the piece of land that belonged to our brother, Elimelech.	3 Alors il dit à celui qui avait droit de rachat: "La pièce de terre qui appartenait à notre frère Elimélek,Noémi qui est revenue des Champs de Moab la met en vente.
4 I thought I should tel you about this and say, "Acquire it in the presence of the men who are sitting hereand in the presence of the elders of my people. If you want to use your right of redemption, redeem it; if you donot, tel me so that I know, for I am the only person to redeem it besides yourself, and I myself come after you." 'The man said, 'I am wil ing to redeem it.'	4 Je me suis dit que j'allais t'en informer en disant: Acquiers-la en présence de ceux qui sont assis là etdes anciens de mon peuple. Si tu veux exercer ton droit de rachat, rachète, mais si tu ne le veux pas, déclare-lemoi pour que je le sache. Tu es le premier à avoir le droit de rachat, moi je ne viens qu'après toi." L'autrerépondit: "Oui! je veux racheter."
5 Boaz then said, 'The day you acquire the field from Naomi, you also acquire Ruth the Moabitess, thewife of the man who has died, to perpetuate the dead man's name in his inheritance.'	5 Mais Booz dit: "Le jour où, de la main de Noémi, tu acquerras ce champ, tu acquiers aussi Ruth laMoabite, la femme de celui qui est mort, pour perpétuer le nom du mort sur son patrimoine."
6 The man with the right of redemption then said, 'I cannot use my right of redemption withoutjeopardising my own inheritance. Since I cannot use my right of redemption, exercise the right yourself.'	6 Celui qui avait droit de rachat répondit alors: "Je ne puis exercer mon droit, car je craindrais de nuire àmon patrimoine. Exerce pour toi-même mon droit de rachat, car moi je ne puis l'exercer."
7 Now, in former times, it was the custom in Israel to confirm a transaction in matters of redemption orinheritance by one of the parties taking off his sandal and giving it to the other. This was how agreements wereratified in Israel.	7 Or c'était autrefois la coutume en Israël, en cas de rachat ou d'héritage, pour valider toute affaire: l'unôtait sa sandale et la donnait à l'autre. Telle était en Israël la manière de témoigner.
8 So, when the man with the right of redemption said to Boaz, 'Acquire it for yourself,' he took off hissandal.	8 Celui qui avait droit de rachat dit donc à Booz: "Fais l'acquisition pour toi-même", et il retira sasandale.
9 Boaz then said to the elders and al the people there, 'Today you are witnesses that from Naomi Iacquire everything that used to belong to Elimelech, and everything that used to belong to Mahlon and Chilion	9 Booz dit aux anciens et à tout le peuple: "Vous êtes témoins aujourd'hui que j'acquiers de la main deNoémi tout ce qui appartenait à Elimélek et tout ce qui appartenait à Mahlôn et à Kilyôn,
10 and that I am also acquiring Ruth the Moabitess, Mahlon's widow, to be my wife, to perpetuate thedead man's name in his inheritance, so that the dead man's name will not be lost among his brothers and at thegate of his town. Today you are witnesses to this.'	10 et que j'acquiers en même temps pour femme Ruth la Moabite, veuve de Mahlôn, pour perpétuer lenom du mort sur son héritage et pour que le nom du mort ne soit pas retranché d'entre ses frères ni de la porte desa ville. Vous en êtes aujourd'hui les témoins."
11 All the people at the gate said, 'We are witnesses'; and the elders said, 'May Yahweh make the womanabout to enter your family like Rachel and Leah who together built up the House of Israel. Grow mighty inEphrathah, be renowned in Bethlehem!	11 Tout le peuple qui se trouvait à la porte répondit: "Nous en sommes témoins", et les anciensrépondirent: "Que Yahvé rende la femme qui va entrer dans ta maison semblable à Rachel et à Léa qui, à ellesdeux, ont édifié la maison d'Israël. Deviens puissant en Ephrata et fais-toi un nom dans Bethléem.
12 And through the children Yahweh wil give you by this young woman, may your family be like the familyof Perez, whom Tamar bore to Judah.'	12 Que grâce à la postérité que Yahvé t'accordera de cette jeune femme, ta maison soit semblable à cellede Pérèç, que Tamar enfanta à Juda."
13 So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife. And when they came together, Yahweh made herconceive and she bore a son.	13 Booz prit Ruth et elle devint sa femme. Il alla vers elle, Yahvé donna à Ruth de concevoir et elleenfanta un fils.
14 And the women said to Naomi, 'Blessed be Yahweh who has not left you today without anyone toredeem you. May his name be praised in Israel!	14 Les femmes dirent alors à Noémi: "Béni soit Yahvé qui ne t'a pas laissé manquer aujourd'hui dequelqu'un pour te racheter. Que son nom soit proclamé en Israël!
15 The child wil be a comfort to you and the prop of your old age, for he has been born to the daughter-in-law who loves you and is more to you than seven sons.'	15 Il sera pour toi un consolateur et le soutien de ta vieillesse, car il a pour mère ta bru qui t'aime, ellequi vaut mieux pour toi que sept fils."
16 And Naomi, taking the child, held him to her breast; and she it was who looked after him.	16 Et Noémi, prenant l'enfant, le mit sur son sein, et ce fut elle qui prit soin de lui.
17 And the women of the neighbourhood gave him a name. 'A son', they said, 'has been born to Naomi,'and they cal ed him Obed. This was the father of Jesse, the father of David.	17 Les voisines lui donnèrent un nom, elles dirent: "Il est né un fils à Noémi" et elles le nommèrentObed. C'est le père de Jessé, père de David.
18 These are the descendants of Perez. Perez fathered Hezron,	18 Voici la postérité de Pérèç: Pérèç engendra Heçrôn.
19 Hezron fathered Ram, Ram fathered Amminadab,	19 Heçrôn engendra Ram et Ram engendra Amminadab.
20 Amminadab fathered Nahshon, Nahshon fathered Salmon,	20 Amminadab engendra Nahshôn et Nahshôn engendra Salmôn.
21 Salmon fathered Boaz, Boaz fathered Obed,	21 Salmôn engendra Booz et Booz engendra Obed.
22 Obed fathered Jesse, and Jesse fathered David.'	22 Et Obed engendra Jessé et Jessé engendra David.
