NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 As there were false prophets in the past history of our people, so you too wil have your false teachers,who wil insinuate their own disruptive views and, by disowning the Lord who bought them freedom, wil bringupon themselves speedy destruction.	1 OR vi furono ancora de’ falsi profeti fra il popolo, come altresì vi saranno fra voi de’ falsi dottori, i quali sottintrodurranno eresie di perdizione, e rinnegheranno il Signore che li ha comperati, traendosi addosso subita perdizione.
2 Many wil copy their debauched behaviour, and the Way of Truth wil be brought into disrepute on theiraccount.	2 E molti seguiteranno le lor lascivie; per i quali la via della verità sarà bestemmiata
3 In their greed they wil try to make a profit out of you with untrue tales. But the judgement made uponthem long ago is not idle, and the destruction awaiting them is for ever on the watch.	3 E per avarizia faranno mercatanzia di voi con parole finte; sopra i quali già da lungo tempo il giudicio non tarda, e la perdizione loro non dorme.
4 When angels sinned, God did not spare them: he sent them down into the underworld and consignedthem to the dark abyss to be held there until the Judgement.	4 Perciocchè, se Iddio non ha risparmiati gli angeli che hanno peccato; anzi, avendoli abissati, li ha messi in catene di caligine, per esser guardati al giudicio;
5 He did not spare the world in ancient times: he saved only Noah, the preacher of uprightness, alongwith seven others, when he sent the Flood over a world of sinners.	5 e non risparmiò il mondo antico; ma salvò Noè, predicator di giustizia, sol con otto persone, avendo addotto il diluvio sopra il mondo degli empi;
6 He condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by reducing them to ashes as a warning to futuresinners;	6 e condannò a sovversione le città di Sodoma, e di Gomorra, avendole ridotte in cenere, e poste per esempio a coloro che per l’avvenire viverebbero empiamente;
7 but rescued Lot, an upright man who had been sickened by the debauched way in which these vilepeople behaved-	7 e scampò il giusto Lot, travagliato per la lussuriosa condotta degli scellerati
8 for that upright man, living among them, was outraged in his upright soul by the crimes that he saw andheard every day.	8 poichè quel giusto, abitando fra loro, per ciò ch’egli vedeva, ed udiva, tormentava ogni dì l’anima sua giusta per le scellerate loro opere;
9 Al this shows that the Lord is well able to rescue the good from their trials, and hold the wicked for theirpunishment until the Day of Judgement,	9 il Signore sa trarre di tentazione i pii, e riserbar gli empi ad esser puniti nel giorno del giudicio;
10 especially those who follow the desires of their corrupt human nature and have no respect for theLord's authority. Such self-wil ed people with no reverence are not afraid of offending against the glorious ones,	10 massimamente coloro che vanno dietro alla carne, in concupiscenza d’immondizia; e che sprezzano le signorie: che sono audaci, di lor senno, e non hanno orrore di dir male delle dignità.
11 but the angels in their greater strength and power make no complaint or accusation against them inthe Lord's presence.	11 Mentre gli angeli, benchè sieno maggiori di forza e di potenza, non dànno contro ad esse dinanzi al Signore giudicio di maldicenza.
12 But these people speak evil of what they do not understand; they are like brute beasts, born only to becaught and kil ed, and like beasts they wil be destroyed, being injured in return for the injuries they haveinflicted.	12 Ma costoro, come animali senza ragione, andando dietro all’impeto della natura, nati ad esser presi, ed a perire bestemmiando nelle cose che ignorano, periranno del tutto nella lor corruzione, ricevendo il pagamento dell’iniquità.
13 Debauchery even by day they make their pleasure; they are unsightly blots, and amuse themselves bytheir trickery even when they are sharing your table;	13 Essi, che reputano tutto il lor piacere consistere nelle delizie della giornata; che son macchie, e vituperii, godendo de’ loro inganni, mentre mangiano con voi ne’ vostri conviti.
14 with their eyes always looking for adultery, people with an insatiable capacity for sinning, they wilseduce any but the most stable soul. Where greed is concerned they are at their peak of fitness. They are undera curse.	14 Avendo gli occhi pieni d’adulterio, e che non restano giammai di peccare; adescando le anime instabili; avendo il cuore esercitato ad avarizia, figliuoli di maledizione.
15 They have left the right path and wandered off to fol ow the path of Balaam son of Bosor, who set hisheart on a dishonest reward, but soon had his fault pointed out to him:	15 I quali, lasciata la diritta strada, si sono sviati, seguitando la via di Balaam, figliuolo di Bosor, il quale amò il salario d’iniquità.
16 a dumb beast of burden, speaking with a human voice, put a stop to the madness of the prophet.	16 Ma egli ebbe la riprensione della sua prevaricazione; un’asina mutola, avendo parlato in voce umana, represse la follia del profeta.
17 People like this are dried-up springs, fogs swirling in the wind, and the gloom of darkness is stored upfor them.	17 Questi son fonti senz’acqua, nuvole sospinte dal turbo, a’ quali è riserbata la caligine delle tenebre.
18 With their high-sounding but empty talk they tempt back people who have scarcely escaped fromthose who live in error, by playing on the disordered desires of their human nature and by debaucheries.	18 Perciocchè, parlando cose vane sopra modo gonfie, adescano per concupiscenze della carne, e per lascivie, coloro che erano un poco fuggiti da quelli che conversano in errore.
19 They may promise freedom but are themselves slaves to corruption; because if anyone lets himself bedominated by anything, then he is a slave to it;	19 Promettendo loro libertà, là dove eglino stessi son servi della corruzione; poichè ancora, se altri è vinto da alcuno, diviene suo servo.
20 and anyone who has escaped the pol ution of the world by coming to know our Lord and SaviourJesus Christ, and who then allows himself to be entangled and mastered by it a second time, ends up by beingworse than he was before.	20 Perciocchè, quelli che son fuggiti dalle contaminazioni del mondo, per la conoscenza del Signore e Salvator Gesù Cristo, se di nuovo essendo in quelle avviluppati, sono vinti, l’ultima condizione è loro peggiore della primiera.
21 It would have been better for them never to have learnt the way of uprightness, than to learn it andthen desert the holy commandment that was entrusted to them.	21 Imperocchè meglio era per loro non aver conosciuta la via della giustizia, che, dopo averla conosciuta, rivolgersi indietro dal santo comandamento che era loro stato dato.
22 What they have done is exactly as the proverb rightly says: The dog goes back to its vomit and: Assoon as the sow has been washed, it wal ows in the mud.	22 Ma egli è avvenuto loro ciò che si dice per vero proverbio: Il cane è tornato al suo vomito, e la porca lavata è tornata a voltolarsi nel fango
