James 4

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Where do these wars and battles between yourselves first start? Is it not precisely in the desiresfighting inside your own selves?	1 Donde provengono le guerre e le battaglie tra di voi? Non provengono forse dalle vostre bramosie di piacere, che si combattono tra loro nelle vostre membra?
2 You want something and you lack it; so you kil . You have an ambition that you cannot satisfy; so youfight to get your way by force. It is because you do not pray that you do not receive;	2 Bramate e non avete; uccidete e siete invidiosi, eppure non potete ottenere; battagliate e guerreggiate. Non avete perché non chiedete;
3 when you do pray and do not receive, it is because you prayed wrongly, wanting to indulge yourpassions.	3 chiedete ma non ricevete, perché chiedete male, con l'intento di dilapidare, seguendo le vostre bramosie.
4 Adulterers! Do you not realise that love for the world is hatred for God? Anyone who chooses the worldfor a friend is constituted an enemy of God.	4 Adùlteri, non sapete che l'amore del mondo è inimicizia con Dio? Chi dunque vuole essere amico del mondo si fa nemico Dio.
5 Can you not see the point of the saying in scripture, 'The longing of the spirit he sent to dwel in us is ajealous longing.'?	5 Oppure pensate che la Scrittura parli a vuoto? Lo Spirito che abita in voi vi ama fino alla gelosia.
6 But he has given us an even greater grace, as scripture says: God opposes the proud but he accordshis favour to the humble.	6 Ma dà una grazia maggiore; per questo dice: Dio resiste ai superbi e dà la grazia agli umili.
7 Give in to God, then; resist the devil, and he wil run away from you.	7 Sottomettetevi dunque a Dio; opponetevi al diavolo ed egli fuggirà da voi.
8 The nearer you go to God, the nearer God wil come to you. Clean your hands, you sinners, and clearyour minds, you waverers.	8 Avvicinatevi a Dio ed egli si avvicinerà a voi. Voi, peccatori, purificatevi le mani; voi, anime indecise, mondate il vostro cuore.
9 Appreciate your wretchedness, and weep for it in misery. Your laughter must be turned to grief, yourhappiness to gloom.	9 Lamentate la vostra miseria, affliggetevi, piangete: il vostro riso si trasformi in pianto, la vostra esultanza diventi tristezza.
10 Humble yourselves before the Lord and he wil lift you up.	10 Umiliatevi davanti al Signore ed egli vi innalzerà.
11 Brothers, do not slander one another. Anyone who slanders a brother, or condemns one, is speakingagainst the Law and condemning the Law. But if you condemn the Law, you have ceased to be subject to it andbecome a judge over it.	11 Non dite male gli uni degli altri, fratelli: chi dice male del fratello o giudica il fratello, dice male della legge e giudica la legge; e se tu giudichi la legge, non sei un esecutore della legge, ma ne sei giudice.
12 There is only one lawgiver and he is the only judge and has the power to save or to destroy. Who areyou to give a verdict on your neighbour?	12 Uno solo è legislatore e giudice, colui che ha la possibilità di salvare e di mandare in rovina; ma chi sei tu che giudichi il prossimo?
13 Wel now, you who say, 'Today or tomorrow, we are off to this or that town; we are going to spend ayear there, trading, and make some money.'	13 Orsù, dunque, voi che dite: "Domani o dopodomani andremo nella tale città, vi passeremo l'anno, faremo affari, guadagneremo".
14 You never know what wil happen tomorrow: you are no more than a mist that appears for a little whileand then disappears.	14 Voi, che non sapete quale sarà la vostra vita domani! Siete infatti un filo di vapore che appare per un po' di tempo e poi si dissolve.
15 Instead of this, you should say, 'If it is the Lord's wil , we shal stil be alive to do this or that.'	15 Dovreste invece dire: "Se il Signore vorrà, vivremo e faremo questo e quello".
16 But as it is, how boastful and loud -- mouthed you are! Boasting of this kind is always wrong.	16 Voi invece vi vantate lo stesso dei vostri progetti ambiziosi: un vanto del genere è perverso.
17 Everyone who knows what is the right thing to do and does not do it commits a sin.	17 Chi sa compiere, dunque, il bene e non lo compie, costui è in peccato.
