1 Let us leave behind us then al the elementary teaching about Christ and go on to its completion,without going over the fundamental doctrines again: the turning away from dead actions, faith in God,	1 Per la qual cosa intermettendo di discorrere de' rudimenti di Cristo, avanziamoci a quel, che havvi di più perfetto, senza gettare di bel nuovo il fondamento della conversione dalle opere di morte, e della fede in Dio,
2 the teaching about baptisms and the laying -- on of hands, about the resurrection of the dead andeternal judgement.	2 Della dottrina de' battesimi, della imposizione ancor delle mani, e della risurrezione de' morti, e dell'eterno giudizio.
3 This, God willing, is what we propose to do.	3 E questo lo faremo, se pure Dio lo permetterà.
4 As for those people who were once brought into the light, and tasted the gift from heaven, and receiveda share of the Holy Spirit,	4 Imperocché è impossibile, che coloro, i quali sono stati una volta illuminati, hanno anche gustato il dono celeste, e sono stati fatti partecipi dello Spirito santo,
5 and tasted the goodness of God's message and the powers of the world to come	5 Hanno gustato egualmente la buona parola di Dio, e le virtù del futuro secolo,
6 and yet in spite of this have fal en away -- it is impossible for them to be brought to the freshness ofrepentance a second time, since they are crucifying the Son of God again for themselves, and making a publicexhibition of him.	6 E sono (poi) precipitati; si rinnovellino un'altra volta a penitenza, crocifiggendo nuovamente in loro stessi il figliuolo di Dio, e all'ignominia esponendolo.
7 A field that drinks up the rain that has fal en frequently on it, and yields the crops that are wanted by theowners who grew them, receives God's blessing;	7 Imperocché la terra, che beve la pioggia, che frequentemente le cade in grembo, ed utili erbe genera a chi la coltiva, riceve benedizione da Dio:
8 but one that grows brambles and thistles is worthless, and near to being cursed. It will end by beingburnt.	8 Ma se delle spine produce, è de' triboli, ella è riprovata, e prossima a maledizione: il fine di cui si è di essere abbruciata.
9 But you, my dear friends -- in spite of what we have just said, we are sure you are in a better state andon the way to salvation.	9 Ci promettiamo però migliori cose di voi, o dilettissimi, e più confacenti alla (vostra) salute: sebbene parliam cosi.
10 God would not be so unjust as to forget al you have done, the love that you have for his name or theservices you have done, and are stil doing, for the holy people of God.	10 Imperocché non è Dio ingiusto, onde si dimentichi dell'opera vostra, e della carità, che dimostrata avete pel nome di lui, nell'aver servito ai santi, e nel servirgli.
11 Our desire is that every one of you should go on showing the same enthusiasm til the ultimatefulfilment of your hope,	11 Ma desideriamo, che ognuno di voi la stessa sollecitudine dimostri, affin di rendere compiuta la speranza sino alla fine,
12 never growing careless, but taking as your model those who by their faith and perseverance are heirsof the promises.	12 Affinchè non diventiate pigri, ma imitatori di coloro, i quali mediante la fede, e la pazienza sono eredi delle promesse.
13 When God made the promise to Abraham, he swore by his own self, since there was no one greaterhe could swear by:	13 Imperocché Dio facendo promessa ad Abramo, perché nissuno aveva più grande, per cui giurare, giurò per se medesimo.
14 I will shower blessings on you and give you many descendants.	14 Dicendo: certo, che io ti benedirà grandemente, e ti moltiplicherò grandemente.
15 Because of that, Abraham persevered and received fulfilment of the promise.	15 E cosi quegli sopportando con longanimità, ottenne il compimento della promessa.
16 Human beings, of course, swear an oath by something greater than themselves, and between them,confirmation by an oath puts an end to al dispute.	16 Conciossiaché gli uomini giurano per chi è maggiore di loro: e di qualunque controversia è fine per essi il giuramento di confermazione.
17 In the same way, when God wanted to show the heirs of the promise even more clearly howunalterable his plan was, he conveyed it by an oath	17 Per la qual cosa volendo Dio abbondare nel far conoscere agli eredi della promessa l'immutabilità del suo consiglio, vi pose di mezzo il giuramento:
18 so that through two unalterable factors in which God could not be lying, we who have fled to him mighthave a vigorous encouragement to grasp the hope held out to us.	18 Affinchè per mezzo di due cose immutabili, nelle quali non è possibile, che Dio mentisca, una consolazione fortissima abbiamo noi, i quali abbiamo presa la corsa per afferrare la speranza proposta:
19 This is the anchor our souls have, reaching right through inside the curtain	19 La quale tenghiamo come ancora sicura, e stabile dell'anima, e la quale penetra sino alle parti, che sono dopo il velo:
20 where Jesus has entered as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest for ever, of theorder of Melchizedek.	20 Dove precursore per noi entrò Gesù, fatto secondo l'ordine di Melchisedech pontefice in eterno.
