1 Let us leave behind us then al the elementary teaching about Christ and go on to its completion,without going over the fundamental doctrines again: the turning away from dead actions, faith in God,	1 Mais laissons là les premiers enseignements sur le Christ et passons aux choses plus avancées. Nous n’allons pas établir une fois de plus les bases, c’est-à-dire le renoncement aux œuvres de mort, la foi en Dieu,
2 the teaching about baptisms and the laying -- on of hands, about the resurrection of the dead andeternal judgement.	2 la doctrine des baptêmes, l’imposition des mains, la résurrection des morts, le jugement éternel.
3 This, God willing, is what we propose to do.	3 Nous ferons comme nous avons dit, si Dieu le permet.
4 As for those people who were once brought into the light, and tasted the gift from heaven, and receiveda share of the Holy Spirit,	4 De toute façon, on ne peut renouveler ceux qui ont déjà été illuminés, qui ont goûté le don surnaturel, qui ont eu leur part de l’Esprit Saint
5 and tasted the goodness of God's message and the powers of the world to come	5 et ont goûté la merveilleuse parole de Dieu avec des expériences du monde nouveau.
6 and yet in spite of this have fal en away -- it is impossible for them to be brought to the freshness ofrepentance a second time, since they are crucifying the Son of God again for themselves, and making a publicexhibition of him.	6 S’ils viennent à retomber, on ne peut pas les renouveler par la pénitence alors qu’ils crucifient le Fils de Dieu pour leur propre compte et se moquent de lui.
7 A field that drinks up the rain that has fal en frequently on it, and yields the crops that are wanted by theowners who grew them, receives God's blessing;	7 La terre qui boit la pluie quand régulièrement elle tombe, et qui donne de la bonne herbe au cultivateur, est bénie de Dieu.
8 but one that grows brambles and thistles is worthless, and near to being cursed. It will end by beingburnt.	8 Mais si elle ne produit qu’épines et chardons, elle devient sans valeur. Un peu plus et on la maudit: pour finir, tout sera brûlé.
9 But you, my dear friends -- in spite of what we have just said, we are sure you are in a better state andon the way to salvation.	9 Même quand nous parlons ainsi, frères bien-aimés, nous sommes sûrs que vous êtes dans une meilleure situation et qu’il y a de l’espoir.
10 God would not be so unjust as to forget al you have done, the love that you have for his name or theservices you have done, and are stil doing, for the holy people of God.	10 Dieu serait injuste s’il oubliait ce que vous avez fait par amour pour son nom et pour le service des saints, et comment vous les servez encore.
11 Our desire is that every one of you should go on showing the same enthusiasm til the ultimatefulfilment of your hope,	11 Mais nous voudrions que chacun d’entre vous fasse tout jusqu’au bout, pour que votre espérance porte ses fruits.
12 never growing careless, but taking as your model those who by their faith and perseverance are heirsof the promises.	12 Ne devenez pas nonchalants, imitez plutôt ceux qui ont bénéficié à la fin de la promesse, grâce à la foi et la persévérance.
13 When God made the promise to Abraham, he swore by his own self, since there was no one greaterhe could swear by:	13 Quand Dieu a promis à Abraham, il a juré par lui-même, car il n’y avait personne de plus grand que lui.
14 I will shower blessings on you and give you many descendants.	14 Et il a dit: Je te bénirai et tu seras béni, je veux te multiplier et te multiplierai.
15 Because of that, Abraham persevered and received fulfilment of the promise.	15 Abraham a su attendre, et il a vu la réalisation de la promesse.
16 Human beings, of course, swear an oath by something greater than themselves, and between them,confirmation by an oath puts an end to al dispute.	16 On jure d’habitude par quelqu’un de plus grand que soi, et quand on a juré, plus personne ne conteste.
17 In the same way, when God wanted to show the heirs of the promise even more clearly howunalterable his plan was, he conveyed it by an oath	17 De même Dieu a ajouté le serment à la promesse pour montrer de façon certaine à ses destinataires qu’il ne reviendrait pas en arrière.
18 so that through two unalterable factors in which God could not be lying, we who have fled to him mighthave a vigorous encouragement to grasp the hope held out to us.	18 Voilà donc deux choses décidées sans appel où Dieu ne peut pas mentir, et c’est assez pour nous donner courage quand nous nous accrochons à l’espérance qui nous est proposée.
19 This is the anchor our souls have, reaching right through inside the curtain	19 Elle est notre ancre spirituelle, sûre et solide, jetée dans le sanctuaire même au-delà du rideau.
20 where Jesus has entered as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest for ever, of theorder of Melchizedek.	20 C’est là que Jésus est entré le premier, ayant acquis son titre de grand prêtre pour toujours dans la ligne de Melkisédek.
