Joshua 3

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Early in the morning, Joshua struck camp and set out from Shittim with al the Israelites. They went asfar as the Jordan and there they camped before they crossed.	1 Giosuè si levò di buon mattino; egli e tutti i figli d'Israele si mossero da Sittim e giunsero fino al Giordano, dove si fermarono prima di attraversare.
2 Three days later, the officials went through the camp	2 Al termine di tre giorni, gli ufficiali passarono per tutto l'accampamento
3 and gave the people these instructions, 'When you see the ark of the covenant of Yahweh your Godbeing carried by the levitical priests, you wil leave your position and fol ow it,so that you may know which way totake, since you have never gone this way before.	3 e diedero al popolo quest'ordine: "Quando vedrete l'arca dell'alleanza del Signore, Dio vostro, e i sacerdoti leviti che la portano, muovetevi dal vostro posto e seguitela.
4 Between you and the ark, however, keep a distance of about two thousand cubits: do not go near it.'	4 Ci sarà però tra voi e l'arca una distanza di circa duemila cubiti; non avvicinatevi ad essa. Così voi potete sapere che strada fare, perché voi non siete mai passati per questa strada né ieri né avantieri".
5 Joshua said to the people, 'Sanctify yourselves, since tomorrow Yahweh wil work wonders among you.'	5 Giosuè disse quindi al popolo: "Santificatevi, perché domani il Signore farà meraviglie in mezzo a voi!".
6 Joshua then said to the priests, 'Take up the ark of the covenant and cross at the head of the people.'They took up the ark of the covenant and moved to the head of the people.	6 Ai sacerdoti Giosuè parlò così: "Prendete l'arca dell'alleanza e passate in testa al popolo". Quelli presero l'arca dell'alleanza e cominciarono a marciare alla testa del popolo.
7 Yahweh said to Joshua, 'This very day, I shal begin to make you great in the eyes of al Israel so thatthey will know that, as I was with Moses, so I shal be with you.	7 Allora il Signore disse a Giosuè: "Quest'oggi comincio a renderti grande davanti a tutto Israele, affinché sappia che sono con te, come fui con Mosè.
8 Now, give this order to the priests carrying the ark of the covenant, "When you have reached the brinkof the waters of the Jordan, you must halt in the Jordan itself." '	8 Da' dunque quest'ordine ai sacerdoti che portano l'arca dell'alleanza: "Allorché sarete giunti ai limiti delle acque del Giordano, fermatevi lì presso il Giordano".
9 To the Israelites, Joshua then said, 'Come closer and hear the words of Yahweh your God.'	9 Giosuè disse allora ai figli d'Israele: "Avvicinatevi e ascoltate le disposizioni del Signore, vostro Dio".
10 Joshua said, 'By this, you are to know that the living God is with you and without a doubt wil expel theCanaanites, the Hittites, the Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites and Jebusites before you.	10 Giosuè continuò: "In questo riconoscerete che il Dio vivente è in mezzo a voi e che farà fuggire davanti a voi i Cananei, gli Hittiti, gli Evei, i Perizziti, i Gergesei, gli Amorrei e i Gebusei.
11 Look, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of the whole earth is about to move into the Jordan at yourhead.	11 Ecco che l'arca dell'alleanza del Signore di tutta la terra sta per passare il Giordano, davanti a voi.
12 Now choose twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one man from each tribe.	12 Intanto adesso sceglietevi dodici uomini delle tribù d'Israele, uno per ciascuna tribù.
13 As soon as the priests carrying the ark of Yahweh, Lord of the whole earth, have set the soles of theirfeet in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan wil be cut off; the upper waters flowing down wil stopas a single mass.'	13 Appena le piante dei piedi dei sacerdoti che portano l'arca di Dio, Signore di tutta la terra, si poseranno sulle acque del Giordano, si bloccheranno le sue acque: quelle che scendono dall'alto si staccheranno da quelle che scendono in basso e s'arresteranno come una sola massa".
14 Accordingly, when the people left their tents to cross the Jordan, the priests carried the ark of thecovenant ahead of the people.	14 Quando il popolo tolse le tende per passare il Giordano, i sacerdoti portavano l'arca dell'alleanza davanti a tutto il popolo.
15 As soon as the bearers of the ark reached the Jordan and the feet of the priests carrying the arktouched the waters -- the Jordan is in spate throughout the harvest season-	15 E quando quelli che portavano l'arca giunsero al Giordano e i piedi dei sacerdoti che portavano l'arca si bagnavano ai bordi delle acque -- il Giordano è in piena fin sopra le sue sponde per tutto il tempo delle messi --
16 the upper waters stood stil and formed a single mass over a great distance, at Adam, the town nearZarethan, while those flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, were completely separated. Thepeople crossed opposite Jericho.	16 le acque del Giordano che scendono dall'alto si fermarono, ergendosi come una sola massa, a grande distanza, presso Adama, la città che è vicina a Zartan; e le acque che vanno verso il mare dell'Araba, il Mar Morto, si staccarono completamente; così il popolo attraversò di fronte a Gerico.
17 The priests carrying the ark of the covenant of Yahweh stood firm on dry ground in mid-Jordan, whileal Israel crossed on dry ground, until the whole nation had completed its crossing of the Jordan.	17 I sacerdoti che portavano l'arca dell'alleanza del Signore rimasero all'asciutto, in piedi, in mezzo al Giordano; e tutto Israele passò all'asciutto, finché tutto il popolo non ebbe terminato di passare il Giordano.
