Joshua 22

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 Joshua then summoned the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh	1 ALLORA Giosuè chiamò i Rubeniti, e i Gaditi, e la mezza tribù di Manasse, e disse loro:
2 and said to them, 'You have observed everything that Moses, servant of Yahweh, ordered you, andwhenever I have given you an order you have listened to me.	2 Voi avete osservato tutto ciò che Mosè, servitor del Signore, vi avea comandato; e avete ubbidito alla mia voce, in tutto quello che io vi ho comandato;
3 You have not deserted your brothers, from long ago until today, keeping the observance of thecommandment of Yahweh your God.	3 voi non avete abbandonati i vostri fratelli in questo lungo tempo, infino ad oggi; e avete osservato ciò che il Signore Iddio vostro vi avea comandato d’osservare.
4 Now that Yahweh your God has granted your brothers the rest that he promised them, go back to yourtents, to the country belonging to you which Moses, servant of Yahweh, gave you on the other side of theJordan.	4 Or dunque, poichè il Signore Iddio vostro ha dato riposo a’ vostri fratelli, come egli avea loro detto, ritornatevene, e andate alla vostre stanze nel paese della vostra possessione, la qual Mosè, servitor del Signore, vi diede di là dal Giordano.
5 But take great care to practise the commandments and the Law which Moses, servant of Yahweh, hasgiven you: to love Yahweh your God, always to follow his paths, to keep his commandments, to be loyal to himand to serve him with al your heart and with al your soul.'	5 Sol prendete diligentemente guardia di mettere in opera i comandamenti e la Legge che Mosè, servitor del Signore, vi ha data, per amare il Signore Iddio vostro, e camminare in tutte le sue vie, e osservare i suoi comandamenti, e attenervi a lui, e servirgli con tutto il cuor vostro, e con tutta l’anima vostra.
6 Joshua blessed them and sent them away, and they went home to their tents.	6 Poi Giosuè li benedisse, e li accommiatò. Ed essi se ne andarono alle loro stanze.
7 To one half of the tribe of Manasseh, Moses had given a territory in Bashan; to the other half, Joshuagave another among their brothers on the west bank of the Jordan. As Joshua sent them home to their tents, heblessed them	7 Or Mosè avea data eredità alla metà della tribù di Manasse, in Basan; e Giosuè diede eredità all’altra metà co’ lor fratelli, di qua dal Giordano, verso Occidente. Giosuè, oltre a ciò, rimandandoli alle loro stanze, e benedicendoli, disse loro:
8 and said to them, 'You are going back to your tents with great wealth, with a great deal of livestock,with silver and gold, bronze and iron and great quantities of clothing; share the spoils of your enemies with yourbrothers.'	8 Poichè voi ritornate alle vostre stanze con gran ricchezze, e con moltissimo bestiame, e con grandissima quantità d’argento, e d’oro, e di rame, e di ferro, e di vestimenti; spartite le spoglie de’ vostri nemici co’ vostri fratelli.
9 The Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh returned home, leaving the Israelites atShiloh in Canaan, and made for Gilead, the territory which belonged to them as a result of Yahweh's order giventhrough Moses.	9 I figliuoli di Ruben adunque, e i figliuoli di Gad, e la mezza tribù di Manasse, partitisi d’appresso a’ figliuoli d’Israele, di Silo, che è nel paese di Canaan, se ne ritornarono, per andare al paese di Galaad, nel paese della loro eredità, del quale erano stati messi in possessione, secondo che il Signore avea comandato per Mosè
10 When they came to the stone circle by the Jordan, in Canaanite territory, the Reubenites, the Gaditesand the half-tribe of Manasseh built an altar there beside the Jordan, a large, imposing altar.	10 E, arrivati agli argini del Giordano, che sono nel paese di Canaan, i figliuoli di Ruben, e i figliuoli di Gad, e la mezza tribù di Manasse, edificarono quivi un altare, presso al Giordano; un altare grande e ragguardevole.
11 This came to the ears of the Israelites. 'Look,' the word went round, 'the Reubenites, the Gadites andthe half-tribe of Manasseh have built this altar on the Canaanite side, near the stone circle by the Jordan, on theIsraelites' bank.'	11 E i figliuoli d’Israele udirono dire: Ecco, i figliuoli di Ruben, e i figliuoli di Gad, e la mezza tribù di Manasse, hanno edificato un altare dirincontro al paese di Canaan, presso agli argini del Giordano, dal lato de’ figliuoli d’Israele.
12 At this news, the whole community of the Israelites mustered at Shiloh, to march against them andmake war on them.	12 E ciò udito, tutta la raunanza de’ figliuoli d’Israele si adunò in Silo, per salire a far loro guerra.
13 The Israelites sent the priest Phinehas son of Eleazar to the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh, in Gilead,	13 Ma prima i figliuoli d’Israele mandarono a’ figliuoli di Ruben, e a’ figliuoli di Gad, e alla mezza tribù di Manasse, nel paese di Galaad, Finees, figliuolo del Sacerdote Eleazaro;
14 and with him ten leading men, one man from a leading family from each of the tribes of Israel, each ofthem being head of his family in the clans of Israel.	14 e, con lui, dieci uomini principali, uno per ciascuna casa paterna di tutte le tribù d’Israele; e ciascun di loro era Capo della sua casa paterna fra le migliaia d’Israele.
15 Having reached the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh in Gilead, they said this:	15 Costoro adunque vennero a’ figliuoli di Ruben, e a’ figliuoli di Gad, e alla mezza tribù di Manasse, nel paese di Galaad, e parlarono con loro, dicendo:
16 'The whole community of Israel says as fol ows, "What do you mean by this infidelity, which you havecommitted against the God of Israel by now repudiating your al egiance to Yahweh, and by building yourselvesan altar with the intention now of rebel ing against Yahweh?	16 Così ha detto tutta la raunanza del Signore: Qual misfatto è questo, che voi avete commesso contro all’Iddio d’Israele, rivoltandovi oggi indietro dal Signore, edificandovi un altare, per ribellarvi oggi contro al Signore?
17 "Was the crime which we committed at Peor so slight -- although we have not managed to purifyourselves from that even now, in spite of the plague which has ravaged the community of Yahweh-	17 L’iniquità di Peor, della quale infino ad oggi non siamo purgati, e per la quale fu quella piaga sopra la raunanza del Signore, ci pare ella poca cosa,
18 that you must now repudiate your al egiance to Yahweh? For since you are in rebellion against himtoday, tomorrow his anger will be aroused against the whole community of Israel.	18 che voi oggi vi rivoltiate indietro dal Signore? onde avverrà che, ribellandovi oggi contro al Signore, domani egli si adirerà contro a tutta la raunanza d’Israele.
19 "Is the country in which you have settled unclean? Then cross over into the country where Yahwehhas settled, there where Yahweh's Dwel ing now stands, and settle among us. But do not rebel against Yahwehor involve us in your rebel ion by building a rival altar to the altar of Yahweh our God.	19 Che se pure il paese della vostra possessione è immondo, passate al paese della possessione del Signore, nel quale il Tabernacolo del Signore è stanziato; e abbiate possessione fra noi, e non vi ribellate contro al Signore, e non vi rivoltate da noi, edificandovi un altare, oltre all’Altare del Signore Iddio nostro.
20 When Achan son of Zerah was unfaithful to the curse of destruction, did not the retribution comedown on the whole community of Israel, although he was only one man? Did he not have to die for his crime?" '	20 Acan, figliuolo di Zera, non commise egli misfatto intorno all’interdetto; onde vi fu indegnazione contro a tutta la raunanza d’Israele? e quell’uomo non morì solo per la sua iniquità
21 The Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh spoke in their turn and answered theheads of the clans of Israel:	21 Ma i figliuoli di Ruben, e i figliuoli di Gad, e la mezza tribù di Manasse, risposero, e dissero a’ Capi delle migliaia d’Israele:
22 'The God of gods, Yahweh, the God of gods, Yahweh wel knows, and let Israel know it too: if therehas been rebellion or infidelity to Yahweh on our part, may he refuse to save us today!	22 Il Signore Iddio degl’iddii, il Signore Iddio degl’iddii, esso il sa; Israele anch’esso il saprà. O Signore se abbiam fatto questo per ribellione, e per commetter misfatto contro a te, non salvarci in questo giorno.
23 And if we have built ourselves an altar with the intention of repudiating our al egiance to Yahweh andof presenting burnt offering and oblation or of offering communion sacrifices on it, may Yahweh himself call us to account for it!	23 Se, edificandoci un altare l’abbiam fatto per rivoltarci indietro dal Signore; ovvero per offerir sopra esso olocausto od offerta; ovvero, per far sopra esso sacrificio da render grazie; il Signore istesso ne domandi conto.
24 The truth is, we have done this as a precaution: in the future, your descendants might say to ours,"What connection do you have with Yahweh, God of Israel?	24 E se non l’abbiam fatto per tema di questo, cioè che per l’innanzi i vostri figliuoli potrebbero dire a’ nostri figliuoli: Che avete voi a fare col Signore Iddio d’Israele?
25 Has not Yahweh set the frontier of the Jordan between us and you, you Reubenites and Gadites?You have no share in Yahweh." Thus, your descendants would be the cause of stopping ours from fearingYahweh.	25 Poichè il Signore ha posto un confine tra voi e noi, o figliuoli di Ruben, e figliuoli di Gad, cioè il Giordano; voi non avete parte alcuna nel Signore; laonde i vostri figliuoli farebbero che i nostri figliuoli resterebbero di temere il Signore.
26 'So we said to each other, "Let us build this altar, not for burnt offerings or other sacrifices	26 Perciò abbiamo detto: Provvediamo ora a noi, edificando questo altare, non per olocausto, nè per sacrificio;
27 but as a witness between us and you and between our descendants after us, attesting that we toohave the right to worship Yahweh, in his presence, with our burnt offerings, our victims and our communionsacrifices. And so, in the future your descendants wil not be able to say to ours: You have no share in Yahweh."	27 anzi, acciocchè sia un testimonio fra noi e voi, e fra le nostre generazioni dopo noi, che noi possiamo fare il servigio del Signore nel suo cospetto, ne’ nostri olocausti, ne’ nostri sacrificii, e nelle nostre offerte da render grazie; e che i vostri figliuoli per l’innanzi non dicano a’ nostri figliuoli: Voi non avete alcuna parte nel Signore.
28 And we furthermore said, "If ever it were to happen that they did say this either to us or to ourdescendants in the future, we should reply: Look at this structure, Yahweh's altar, made by our ancestors not forburnt offerings or other sacrifices but as a witness between us and you."	28 Abbiamo adunque detto: Quando per innanzi diranno così a noi, e alle nostre generazioni, noi diremo loro: Vedete la somiglianza dell’Altare del Signore, che i padri nostri hanno fatta, non per olocausto, nè per sacrificio; anzi acciocchè sia testimonio fra noi e voi.
29 Far be it from us to rebel against Yahweh or now to repudiate our allegiance to Yahweh by buildingan altar for burnt offerings or oblations or sacrifices, in rivalry with the altar of Yahweh our God that standsbefore his Dwel ing!'	29 Tolga Iddio da noi che noi ci ribelliamo contro al Signore, e che oggi ci rivoltiamo indietro dal Signore, per edificare un altare per olocausto, per offerta, o per altro sacrificio, oltre all’Altare del Signore Iddio nostro, che è davanti al suo Tabernacolo
30 When the priest Phinehas, the leaders of the community and the heads of the clans of Israel whowere with him, heard the words spoken by the Gadites, the Reubenites and the Manassehites, they approved ofthem.	30 Quando il Sacerdote Finees, e i principali della raunanza, e i Capi delle migliaia d’Israele, ch’erano con lui, ebbero intese le parole che i figliuoli di Ruben, e i figliuoli di Gad, e i figliuoli di Manasse dissero, la cosa piacque loro.
31 The priest Phinehas son of Eleazar then said to the Reubenites, the Gadites and the Manassehites,'Today, we can see that Yahweh is among us, since you have not been unfaithful to Yahweh in this matter; thismeans that you have spared the Israelites from Yahweh's avenging hand.'	31 E Finees, figliuolo del Sacerdote Eleazaro, disse a’ figliuoli di Ruben, e a’ figliuoli di Gad, e a’ figliuoli di Manasse: Oggi conosciamo che il Signore è nel mezzo di noi, poichè voi non avete commesso questo misfatto contro al Signore; a tal’ora avete scampati i figliuoli d’Israele dalla man del Signore.
32 The priest Phinehas son of Eleazar and the leaders left the Reubenites and the Gadites and wentback from Gilead to Canaan and the Israelites, to whom they reported the answer.	32 E Finees, figliuolo del Sacerdote Eleazaro, e que’ principali, se ne ritornarono d’appresso a’ figliuoli di Ruben, e d’appresso a’ figliuoli di Gad, dal paese di Galaad, nel paese di Canaan, a’ figliuoli d’Israele, e rapportarono loro la cosa.
33 The Israelites were pleased to hear this; the Israelites gave thanks to God and spoke no more ofmarching against them to make war on them and to ravage the country inhabited by the Reubenites and theGadites.	33 E la cosa piacque a’ figliuoli d’Israele; ed essi benedissero Iddio, e non parlarono più di salire a far guerra a’ figliuoli di Ruben e di Gad, per guastare il paese nel quale essi abitavano.
34 The Reubenites and the Gadites cal ed the altar . . . , 'Because', they said, 'it wil be a witnessbetween us that Yahweh is God.'	34 E i figliuoli di Ruben, e i figliuoli di Gad, posero nome a quell’altare: Ed; perciocchè dissero: Esso è testimonio fra noi, che il Signore è l’Iddio
