Acts of the Apostles 15

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Then some men came down from Judaea and taught the brothers, 'Unless you have yourselvescircumcised in the tradition of Moses you cannot be saved.'	1 Alguns homens, descendo da Judéia, puseram-se a ensinar aos irmãos o seguinte: Se não vos circuncidais, segundo o rito de Moisés, não podeis ser salvos.
2 This led to disagreement, and after Paul and Barnabas had had a long argument with these men it wasdecided that Paul and Barnabas and others of the church should go up to Jerusalem and discuss the questionwith the apostles and elders.	2 Originou-se então grande discussão de Paulo e Barnabé com eles, e resolveu-se que estes dois, com alguns outros irmãos, fossem tratar desta questão com os apóstolos e os anciãos em Jerusalém.
3 The members of the church saw them off, and as they passed through Phoenicia and Samaria theytold how the gentiles had been converted, and this news was received with the greatest satisfaction by al thebrothers.	3 Acompanhados {algum tempo} dos membros da comunidade, tomaram o caminho que atravessa a Fenícia e Samaria. Contaram a todos os irmãos a conversão dos gentios, o que causou a todos grande alegria.
4 When they arrived in Jerusalem they were welcomed by the church and by the apostles and elders,and gave an account of al that God had done through them.	4 Chegando a Jerusalém, foram recebidos pela comunidade, pelos apóstolos e anciãos, a quem contaram tudo o que Deus tinha feito com eles.
5 But certain members of the Pharisees' party who had become believers objected, insisting that gentilesshould be circumcised and instructed to keep the Law of Moses.	5 Mas levantaram-se alguns que antes de ter abraçado a fé eram da seita dos fariseus, dizendo que era necessário circuncidar os pagãos e impor-lhes a observância da Lei de Moisés.
6 The apostles and elders met to look into the matter,	6 Reuniram-se os apóstolos e os anciãos para tratar desta questão.
7 and after a long discussion, Peter stood up and addressed them. 'My brothers,' he said, 'you knowperfectly wel that in the early days God made his choice among you: the gentiles were to learn the good newsfrom me and so become believers.	7 Ao fim de uma grande discussão, Pedro levantou-se e lhes disse: Irmãos, vós sabeis que já há muito tempo Deus me escolheu dentre vós, para que da minha boca os pagãos ouvissem a palavra do Evangelho e cressem.
8 And God, who can read everyone's heart, showed his approval of them by giving the Holy Spirit tothem just as he had to us.	8 Ora, Deus, que conhece os corações, testemunhou a seu respeito, dando-lhes o Espírito Santo, da mesma forma que a nós.
9 God made no distinction between them and us, since he purified their hearts by faith.	9 Nem fez distinção alguma entre nós e eles, purificando pela fé os seus corações.
10 Why do you put God to the test now by imposing on the disciples the very burden that neither ourancestors nor we ourselves were strong enough to support?	10 Por que, pois, provocais agora a Deus, impondo aos discípulos um jugo que nem nossos pais nem nós pudemos suportar?
11 But we believe that we are saved in the same way as they are: through the grace of the Lord Jesus.'	11 Nós cremos que pela graça do Senhor Jesus seremos salvos, exatamente como eles.
12 The entire assembly fell silent, and they listened to Barnabas and Paul describing al the signs andwonders God had worked through them among the gentiles.	12 Toda a assembléia o ouviu silenciosamente. 15 This is entirely in harmony with the words of the prophets, since the scriptures say:	15 Ora, com isto concordam as palavras dos profetas, como está escrito:
16 After that I shal return and rebuild the fal en hut of David; I shal make good the gaps in it and restoreit.	16 Depois disto voltarei, e reedificarei o tabernáculo de Davi que caiu. E reedificarei as suas ruínas, e o levantarei
17 Then the rest of humanity, and of al the nations once cal ed mine, will look for the Lord, says the Lordwho made this	17 para que o resto dos homens busque o Senhor, e todas as nações, sobre as quais tem sido invocado o meu nome.
18 known so long ago.	18 Assim fala o Senhor que faz estas coisas, coisas que ele conheceu desde a eternidade {Am 9,11s.}.
19 'My verdict is, then, that instead of making things more difficult for gentiles who turn to God,	19 Por isso, julgo que não se devem inquietar os que dentre os gentios se convertem a Deus.
20 we should send them a letter tel ing them merely to abstain from anything polluted by idols, from il icitmarriages, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood.	20 Mas que se lhes escreva somente que se abstenham das carnes oferecidas aos ídolos, da impureza, das carnes sufocadas e do sangue.
21 For Moses has always had his preachers in every town and is read aloud in the synagogues everySabbath.'	21 Porque Moisés, desde muitas gerações, tem em cada cidade seus pregadores, pois que ele é lido nas sinagogas todos os sábados.
22 Then the apostles and elders, with the whole church, decided to choose delegates from amongthemselves to send to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They chose Judas, known as Barsabbas, and Silas, bothleading men in the brotherhood,	22 Então pareceu bem aos apóstolos e aos anciãos com toda a comunidade escolher homens dentre eles e enviá-los a Antioquia com Paulo e Barnabé: Judas, que tinha o sobrenome de Barsabás, e Silas, homens notáveis entre os irmãos.
23 and gave them this letter to take with them: 'The apostles and elders, your brothers, send greetings tothe brothers of gentile birth in Antioch, Syria and Cilicia.	23 Por seu intermédio enviaram a seguinte carta: "Os apóstolos e os anciãos aos irmãos de origem pagã, em Antioquia, na Síria e Cilícia, saúde!
24 We hear that some people coming from here, but acting without any authority from ourselves, havedisturbed you with their demands and have unsettled your minds;	24 Temos ouvido que alguns dentre nós vos têm perturbado com palavras, transtornando os vossos espíritos, sem lhes termos dado semelhante incumbência.
25 and so we have decided unanimously to elect delegates and to send them to you with our wel -beloved Barnabas and Paul,	25 Assim nós nos reunimos e decidimos escolher delegados e enviá-los a vós, com os nossos amados Barnabé e Paulo,
26 who have committed their lives to the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.	26 homens que têm exposto suas vidas pelo nome de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.
27 Accordingly we are sending you Judas and Silas, who wil confirm by word of mouth what we havewritten.	27 Enviamos, portanto, Judas e Silas que de viva voz vos exporão as mesmas coisas.
28 It has been decided by the Holy Spirit and by ourselves not to impose on you any burden beyondthese essentials:	28 Com efeito, pareceu bem ao Espírito Santo e a nós não vos impor outro peso além do seguinte indispensável:
29 you are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals andfrom illicit marriages. Avoid these, and you wil do what is right. Farewel .'	29 que vos abstenhais das carnes sacrificadas aos ídolos, do sangue, da carne sufocada e da impureza. Dessas coisas fareis bem de vos guardar conscienciosamente. Adeus!
30 The party left and went down to Antioch, where they summoned the whole community and deliveredthe letter.	30 Tendo-se despedido, a delegação dirigiu-se a Antioquia. Ali reuniram a assembléia e entregaram a carta.
31 The community read it and were delighted with the encouragement it gave them.	31 À sua leitura, todos se alegraram com o estímulo que ela trazia.
32 Judas and Silas, being themselves prophets, spoke for a long time, encouraging and strengtheningthe brothers.	32 Judas e Silas, que eram também profetas, dirigiam aos irmãos muitas palavras de exortação e de animação.
33 These two spent some time there, and then the brothers wished them peace andwent back to thosewho had sent them.	33 Demoraram-se ali por algum tempo. Foram depois pelos irmãos despedidos em paz, voltando aos que lhos tinham enviado.
34	34 {A Silas contudo, pareceu bem ficar ali, e Judas partiu sozinho.}
35 Paul and Barnabas, however, stayed on in Antioch, and there with many others they taught andproclaimed the good news, the word of the Lord.	35 Paulo e Barnabé detiveram-se também em Antioquia, ensinando e pregando com muitos outros a palavra do Senhor.
36 On a later occasion Paul said to Barnabas, 'Let us go back and visit the brothers in all the townswhere we preached the word of the Lord, so that we can see how they are doing.'	36 Ao termo de alguns dias, disse Paulo a Barnabé: Tornemos a visitar os irmãos por todas as cidades onde temos pregado a palavra do Senhor, para ver como estão passando.
37 Barnabas suggested taking John Mark,	37 Barnabé queria levar consigo também João, que tinha por sobrenome Marcos.
38 but Paul was not in favour of taking along the man who had deserted them in Pamphylia and hadrefused to share in their work.	38 Paulo, porém, achava que não devia ser admitido quem se tinha separado deles em Panfília e não os havia acompanhado no ministério.
39 There was sharp disagreement so that they parted company, and Barnabas sailed off with Mark toCyprus.	39 Houve tal discussão que se separaram um do outro, e Barnabé, levando consigo Marcos, navegou para Chipre.
40 Before Paul left, he chose Silas to accompany him and was commended by the brothers to the graceof God.	40 Paulo, porém, tendo escolhido Silas, e depois de ter sido recomendado pelos irmãos à graça do Senhor, partiu.
