Acts of the Apostles 15

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Then some men came down from Judaea and taught the brothers, 'Unless you have yourselvescircumcised in the tradition of Moses you cannot be saved.'	1 Algunas personas venidas de Judea enseñaban a los hermanos que si no se hacían circuncidar según el rito establecido por Moisés, no podían salvarse.
2 This led to disagreement, and after Paul and Barnabas had had a long argument with these men it wasdecided that Paul and Barnabas and others of the church should go up to Jerusalem and discuss the questionwith the apostles and elders.	2 A raíz de esto, se produjo una agitación: Pablo y Bernabé discutieron vivamente con ellos, y por fin, se decidió que ambos, junto con algunos otros, subieran a Jerusalén para tratar esta cuestión con los Apóstoles y los presbíteros.
3 The members of the church saw them off, and as they passed through Phoenicia and Samaria theytold how the gentiles had been converted, and this news was received with the greatest satisfaction by al thebrothers.	3 Los que habían sido enviados por la Iglesia partieron y atravesaron Fenicia y Samaría, contando detalladamente la conversión de los paganos. Esto causó una gran alegría a todos los hermanos.
4 When they arrived in Jerusalem they were welcomed by the church and by the apostles and elders,and gave an account of al that God had done through them.	4 Cuando llegaron a Jerusalén, fueron bien recibidos por la Iglesia, por los Apóstoles y los presbíteros, y relataron todo lo que Dios había hecho con ellos.
5 But certain members of the Pharisees' party who had become believers objected, insisting that gentilesshould be circumcised and instructed to keep the Law of Moses.	5 Pero se levantaron algunos miembros de la secta de los fariseos que habían abrazado la fe, y dijeron que era necesario circuncidar a los paganos convertidos y obligarlos a observar la Ley de Moisés.
6 The apostles and elders met to look into the matter,	6 Los Apóstoles y los presbíteros se reunieron para deliberar sobre este asunto.
7 and after a long discussion, Peter stood up and addressed them. 'My brothers,' he said, 'you knowperfectly wel that in the early days God made his choice among you: the gentiles were to learn the good newsfrom me and so become believers.	7 Al cabo de una prolongada discusión, Pedro se levantó y dijo: «Hermanos, ustedes saben que Dios, desde los primeros días, me eligió entre todos ustedes para anunciar a los paganos la Palabra del Evangelio, a fin de que ellos abracen la fe.
8 And God, who can read everyone's heart, showed his approval of them by giving the Holy Spirit tothem just as he had to us.	8 Y Dios, que conoce los corazones, dio testimonio en favor de ellos, enviándoles el Espíritu Santo, lo mismo que a nosotros.
9 God made no distinction between them and us, since he purified their hearts by faith.	9 El no hizo ninguna distinción entre ellos y nosotros, y los purificó por medio de la fe.
10 Why do you put God to the test now by imposing on the disciples the very burden that neither ourancestors nor we ourselves were strong enough to support?	10 ¿Por qué ahora ustedes tientan a Dios, pretendiendo imponer a los discípulos un yugo que ni nuestros padres ni nosotros pudimos soportar?
11 But we believe that we are saved in the same way as they are: through the grace of the Lord Jesus.'	11 Por el contrario, creemos que tanto ellos como nosotros somos salvados por la gracia del Señor Jesús».
12 The entire assembly fell silent, and they listened to Barnabas and Paul describing al the signs andwonders God had worked through them among the gentiles.	12 Después, toda la asamblea hizo silencio para oír a Bernabé y a Pablo, que comenzaron a relatar los signos y prodigios que Dios había realizado entre los paganos por intermedio de ellos.
13 When they had finished it was James who spoke. 'My brothers,' he said, 'listen to me.	13 Cuando dejaron de hablar, Santiago tomó la palabra, diciendo: «Hermano, les ruego que me escuchen:
14 Simeon has described how God first arranged to enlist a people for his name out of the gentiles.	14 Simón les ha expuesto cómo Dios dispuso desde el principio elegir entre las naciones paganas, un Pueblo consagrado a su Nombre.
15 This is entirely in harmony with the words of the prophets, since the scriptures say:	15 Con esto concuerdan las palabras de los profetas que dicen:
16 After that I shal return and rebuild the fal en hut of David; I shal make good the gaps in it and restoreit.	16 "Después de esto, yo volveré y levantaré la choza derruida de David; restauraré sus ruinas y la reconstruiré,
17 Then the rest of humanity, and of al the nations once cal ed mine, will look for the Lord, says the Lordwho made this	17 para que el resto de los hombres busque al Señor, lo mismo que todas las naciones que llevan mi Nombre. Así dice el Señor, que da
18 known so long ago.	18 a conocer estas cosas desde la eternidad".
19 'My verdict is, then, that instead of making things more difficult for gentiles who turn to God,	19 Por eso considero que no se debe inquietar a los paganos que se convierten a Dios,
20 we should send them a letter tel ing them merely to abstain from anything polluted by idols, from il icitmarriages, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood.	20 sino que solamente se les debe escribir, pidiéndoles que se abstengan de lo que está contaminado por los ídolos, de las uniones ilegales, de la carne de animales muertos sin desangrar y de la sangre.
21 For Moses has always had his preachers in every town and is read aloud in the synagogues everySabbath.'	21 Desde hace muchísimo tiempo, en efecto, Moisés tiene en cada ciudad sus predicadores que leen la Ley en la sinagoga todos los sábados».
22 Then the apostles and elders, with the whole church, decided to choose delegates from amongthemselves to send to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They chose Judas, known as Barsabbas, and Silas, bothleading men in the brotherhood,	22 Entonces los Apóstoles, los presbíteros y la Iglesia entera, decidieron elegir a algunos de ellos y enviarlos a Antioquía con Pablo y Bernabé. Eligieron a Judas, llamado Barsabás, y a Silas, hombres eminentes entre los hermanos
23 and gave them this letter to take with them: 'The apostles and elders, your brothers, send greetings tothe brothers of gentile birth in Antioch, Syria and Cilicia.	23 y les encomendaron llevar la siguiente carta: «Los Apóstoles y los presbíteros saludamos fraternalmente a los hermanos de origen pagano, que están en Antioquía, en Siria y en Cilicia.
24 We hear that some people coming from here, but acting without any authority from ourselves, havedisturbed you with their demands and have unsettled your minds;	24 Habiéndonos enterado de que algunos de los nuestros, sin mandato de nuestra parte, han sembrado entre ustedes la inquietud y provocado el desconcierto,
25 and so we have decided unanimously to elect delegates and to send them to you with our wel -beloved Barnabas and Paul,	25 hemos decidido de común acuerdo elegir a unos delegados y enviárselos junto con nuestros queridos Bernabé y Pablo,
26 who have committed their lives to the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.	26 los cuales han consagrado su vida al nombre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.
27 Accordingly we are sending you Judas and Silas, who wil confirm by word of mouth what we havewritten.	27 Por eso les enviamos a Judas y a Silas, quienes les transmitirán de viva voz este mismo mensaje.
28 It has been decided by the Holy Spirit and by ourselves not to impose on you any burden beyondthese essentials:	28 El Espíritu Santo, y nosotros mismos, hemos decidido no imponerles ninguna carga más que las indispensables, a saber:
29 you are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals andfrom illicit marriages. Avoid these, and you wil do what is right. Farewel .'	29 que se abstengan de la carne inmolada a los ídolos, de la sangre, de la carne de animales muertos sin desangrar y de las uniones ilegales. Harán bien en cumplir todo esto. Adiós».
30 The party left and went down to Antioch, where they summoned the whole community and deliveredthe letter.	30 Los delegados, después de ser despedidos, descendieron a Antioquía donde convocaron a la asamblea y le entregaron la carta.
31 The community read it and were delighted with the encouragement it gave them.	31 Esta fue leída y todos se alegraron por el aliento que les daba.
32 Judas and Silas, being themselves prophets, spoke for a long time, encouraging and strengtheningthe brothers.	32 Judas y Silas, que eran profetas, exhortaron a sus hermanos y los confirmaron, hablándoles largamente.
33 These two spent some time there, and then the brothers wished them peace andwent back to thosewho had sent them.	33 Al cabo de un tiempo, los hermanos los enviaron nuevamente a la comunidad que los había elegido, despidiéndolos en paz.

35 Paul and Barnabas, however, stayed on in Antioch, and there with many others they taught andproclaimed the good news, the word of the Lord.	35 Pablo y Bernabé permanecieron en Antioquía, enseñando y anunciando la Buena Noticia de la Palabra del Señor, junto con muchos otros.
36 On a later occasion Paul said to Barnabas, 'Let us go back and visit the brothers in all the townswhere we preached the word of the Lord, so that we can see how they are doing.'	36 Algún tiempo después, Pablo dijo a Bernabé: «Volvamos a visitar a los hermanos que están en las ciudades donde ya hemos anunciado la palabra del Señor, para ver cómo se encuentran».
37 Barnabas suggested taking John Mark,	37 Bernabé quería llevar consigo también a Juan, llamado Marcos.
38 but Paul was not in favour of taking along the man who had deserted them in Pamphylia and hadrefused to share in their work.	38 Pero Pablo consideraba que no debía llevar a quien los había abandonado cuando estaban en Panfilia y no había trabajado con ellos.
39 There was sharp disagreement so that they parted company, and Barnabas sailed off with Mark toCyprus.	39 La discusión fue tan viva que terminaron por separarse; Bernabé, llevando consigo a Marcos, se embarcó rumbo a Chipre.
40 Before Paul left, he chose Silas to accompany him and was commended by the brothers to the graceof God.	40 Pablo, por su parte, eligió por compañero a Silas y partió, encomendado por sus hermanos a la gracia del Señor.
41 He travel ed through Syria and Cilicia, consolidating the churches.	41 Así atravesó la Siria y la Cilicia, confirmando a las comunidades.
