Deuteronomy 25

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 'If people fal out, they must go to court for judgement; the judges must declare the one who is right tobe in the right, the one who is wrong to be in the wrong.	1 Si entre dos hombres se produce un litigio y ellos acuden a la justicia, se los juzgará, y se absolverá al inocente y se condenará al culpable.
2 If the one who is in the wrong deserves a flogging, the judge must have him laid on the ground andflogged in his presence, the number of strokes proportionate to his offence.	2 Si este último merece ser apaleado, el juez lo obligará a tenderse en el suelo y lo hará castigar en su presencia, con un número de golpes proporcionados a su culpa.
3 He may impose forty strokes but no more; otherwise, by the infliction of more, serious injury may becaused and your brother be humiliated before you.	3 Podrá infligirle hasta cuarenta golpes, pero no más, no sea que castigándolo más de la cuenta, el castigo resulte excesivo y tu hermano quede envilecido a tus ojos.
4 'You must not muzzle an ox when it is treading out the corn.	4 No pondrás bozal al buey que trilla.
5 'If brothers live together and one of them dies childless, the dead man's wife may not marry a strangeroutside the family. Her husband's brother must come to her and, exercising his duty as brother, make her hiswife,	5 Si varios hermanos viven juntos y uno de ellos muere sin tener hijos, la mujer del difunto no se casará con un extraño. El hermano del difunto se unirá con ella y cumplirá con su deber de cuñado.
6 and the first son she bears must assume the dead brother's name; by this means his name wil not beobliterated from Israel.	6 El primogénito que de ella nazca perpetuará el nombre del hermano difunto, y así su nombre no se borrará de Israel.
7 But if the man declines to take his brother's wife, she must go to the elders at the gate and say, "Ihave no brother-in-law willing to perpetuate his brother's name in Israel; he declines to exercise his duty asbrother in my favour."	7 Pero si el cuñado se niega a tomarla por esposa, ella subirá a la puerta de la ciudad donde están los ancianos, y dirá: «Mi cuñado se niega a perpetuar en Israel el nombre de su hermano; y no está dispuesto a cumplir en mi favor sus deberes de cuñado».
8 The elders of the town must summon the man and talk to him. If, on appearing before them, he says,"I refuse to take her,"	8 Entonces los ancianos de su ciudad llamarán a ese hombre y le pedirán una explicación. Si él persiste en su negativa, diciendo: «No quiero casarme con ella»,
9 then the woman to whom he owes duty as brother must go up to him in the presence of the elders,take the sandal off his foot, spit in his face, and pronounce the fol owing words, "This is what is done to the manwho refuses to restore his brother's house,"	9 su cuñada se acercará a él en presencia de los ancianos, le quitará la sandalia del pie, lo escupirá en la cara y le dirá: «Así se debe obrar con el hombre que no edifica la casa de su hermano».
10 and his family must henceforth be known in Israel as House of the Unshod.	10 Y en adelante, se lo apodará en Israel: «Casa del descalzo».
11 'If, when two men are fighting, the wife of one intervenes to protect her husband from the other'sblows by reaching out and seizing the other by his private parts,	11 Si unos hombres se pelean, y la mujer de uno de ellos, para librar a su marido de los golpes del otro, extiende la mano y lo toma por las partes genitales,
12 you must cut off her hand and show no pity.	12 deberás cortarle la mano sin tenerle compasión.
13 'You must not keep two different weights in your bag, one heavy, one light.	13 No tendrás en tu bolsa dos pesas, una liviana y otra pesada.
14 You must not keep two different measures in your house, one large, one smal .	14 No tendrás en tu casa dos medidas, una grande y otra pequeña.
15 You must keep one weight, ful and accurate, so that you may have long life in the country given youby Yahweh your God.	15 Deberás tener una pesa exacta y justa, y también una medida exacta y justa, para gozar de una larga vida en el suelo que El Señor, tu Dios, te da.
16 For anyone who does things of this kind and acts dishonestly is detestable to Yahweh your God.	16 Porque él considera abominable a que procede de esa manera, a cualquiera que comete una injusticia.
17 'Remember how Amalek treated you when you were on your way out of Egypt.	17 Recuerda lo que te hizo Amalec cuando ustedes iban por el camino, después que salieron de Egipto:
18 He met you on your way and, after you had gone by, he fel on you from the rear and cut off thestragglers; when you were faint and weary, he had no fear of God.	18 cómo te salió el paso y atacó por la espalda a todos los que se habían quedado a la retaguardia, agotados por el cansancio. Entonces tú estabas fatigado y sin fuerzas, pero él no tuvo temor de Dios.
19 When Yahweh your God has granted you peace from al the enemies surrounding you, in the countrygiven you by Yahweh your God to own as your heritage, you must blot out the memory of Amalek under heaven.Do not forget.'	19 Por eso, cuando el Señor, tu Dios, te libre definitivamente de todos los enemigos que están a tu alrededor, en la tierra que él te dará en herencia, borrarás de todas partes el recuerdo de Amalec. ¡No lo olvides!
