Deuteronomy 19

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 'When Yahweh your God has annihilated the nations whose country Yahweh your God is going to giveyou, and you have dispossessed them and are living in their towns and in their houses,	1 Quando il Signore tuo Dio avrà eliminato le nazioni delle quali il Signore tuo Dio ti donerà la terra, quando tu le avrai cacciate e abiterai nelle loro città e nelle loro case,
2 you must set aside three towns, central y placed in the country which Yahweh your God is giving youfor your own.	2 ti sceglierai tre città in mezzo alla terra che il Signore tuo Dio ti dà in possesso;
3 You wil keep the approaches to them in good order, dividing the area of the country which Yahwehyour God is giving you as your heritage, into three parts, so that any kil er can flee to these towns.	3 ne sistemerai l'accesso e dividerai in tre parti il territorio del paese che il Signore tuo Dio ti darà in eredità: affinché ivi si possa rifugiare chiunque ha ucciso.
4 Here is an example of how someone may save his life by fleeing to them. 'If anyone has struck hisfel ow accidental y, without any previous feud with him	4 Questo è il caso di un omicida che vi si rifugia per aver salva la propria vita: quando colpisce il suo compagno inavvertitamente, senza aver avuto prima odio contro di lui.
5 (for example, he goes with his fel ow into the forest to cut wood; his arm swings the axe to fel a tree;the head slips off the handle and strikes his companion dead), that man may take refuge in one of these townsand save his life.	5 Colui che va con il suo compagno nel bosco a tagliar legna, e, mentre la mano brandisce l'accetta per tagliare un albero, il ferro sfugge dal manico e colpisce il suo compagno, che muore: quegli si rifugerà in una di quelle città e salverà la propria vita.
6 It must not be allowed that the avenger of blood, in the heat of his anger, should pursue the kil er andthat the length of the road should help him to overtake and wound him fatal y; for the man has not deserved todie, having had no previous feud with his victim.	6 Il vendicatore del sangue, con il cuore infuriato, non insegua l'omicida e non lo raggiunga, se il cammino è lungo, per colpirlo a morte; non è passibile di morte, perché prima non aveva odio contro di lui.
7 'Hence I am giving you this order: You must set aside three towns,	7 Per questo ti ordino: "Scégliti tre città".
8 and if Yahweh your God enlarges your territory, as he swore to your ancestors that he would, andgives you the whole country which he promised to give to your ancestors-	8 Se il Signore tuo Dio amplierà i tuoi confini, come ha giurato ai tuoi padri, e ti concederà tutta la terra che ha promesso di dare ai tuoi padri,
9 provided that you keep and observe al the commandments which I am enjoining on you today, lovingYahweh your God and always following his ways-then, to those three towns you wil add three more.	9 qualora tu abbia osservato, mettendoli in pratica, tutti questi precetti che oggi ti prescrivo, amando il Signore tuo Dio e camminando per le sue vie ogni giorno, allora aggiungerai altre tre città a quelle tre.
10 In this way, innocent blood will not be shed in the country which Yahweh your God is going to giveyou as your heritage; otherwise you would incur blood-guilt.	10 E non si spargerà sangue innocente in mezzo alla terra che il Signore tuo Dio ti dona in eredità; ci sarebbe sangue sopra di te.
11 'But if it happens that a man has a feud with his fel ow and lies in wait for him and attacks him andfatal y wounds him and he dies, and the man takes refuge in one of these towns,	11 Ma se c'è un uomo che odia il suo compagno e gli tende un'insidia, si leva contro di lui, lo colpisce e quegli muore, ed egli poi si rifugia in una di quelle città,
12 the elders of his own town must send there and have him taken and handed over to the avenger ofblood, to be put to death.	12 gli anziani della sua città manderanno a prenderlo di là e lo consegneranno in mano al vendicatore del sangue e morirà.
13 You must show him no pity. You must banish the shedding of innocent blood from Israel, and thenyou wil prosper.	13 Il tuo occhio non avrà misericordia di lui; ma sradicherai ogni attentato contro il sangue innocente da Israele e sarai felice.
14 'You must not displace your neighbour's boundary mark, positioned by men of old in the heritagesoon to be yours, in the country which Yahweh your God is about to give you.	14 Non sposterai i confini del tuo vicino, posti dai tuoi antenati, nella proprietà che erediterai nella terra che il Signore tuo Dio ti dona in possesso.
15 'A single witness wil not suffice to convict anyone of a crime or offence of any kind; whatever themisdemeanour, the evidence of two witnesses or three is required to sustain the charge.	15 Non si leverà un testimonio solo contro un uomo per una qualsiasi colpa e per un qualsiasi peccato; qualsiasi peccato uno abbia commesso, il fatto sarà stabilito sulla parola di due o di tre testimoni.
16 'If someone gives false evidence against anyone, laying a charge of apostasy,	16 Se si leva un testimonio ingiusto contro un uomo per accusarlo di ribellione,
17 both parties to this dispute before Yahweh must appear before the priests and judges then in office.	17 i due uomini fra cui vi è contesa compariranno al cospetto del Signore, davanti ai sacerdoti e ai giudici che saranno in funzione in quei giorni.
18 The judges wil make a careful enquiry, and if it turns out that the witness is a liar and has made a false accusation against his brother,	18 I giudici indagheranno con cura, e se il testimone è menzognero e ha accusato falsamente il fratello,
19 you must treat the witness as he would have treated his brother. You must banish this evil fromamong you.	19 farete a lui quanto meditava di fare al fratello. Estirperai il male in mezzo a te.
20 The rest, hearing of this, wil be afraid and never again do such an evil thing among you.	20 Gli altri ne sentiranno parlare, ne avranno paura e non commetteranno di nuovo un'azione malvagia come questa in mezzo a te.
21 You must show no pity. 'Life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.'	21 Il tuo occhio non avrà misericordia: persona per persona, occhio per occhio, dente per dente, mano per mano, piede per piede.
