Deuteronomy 19

1 'When Yahweh your God has annihilated the nations whose country Yahweh your God is going to giveyou, and you have dispossessed them and are living in their towns and in their houses,	1 Allorché il Signore Dio tuo avrà annichilate le genti, delle quali la terra darà egli a te, e quando tu ne sarai in possesso, e abiterai in quelle città, e in quelle case:
2 you must set aside three towns, central y placed in the country which Yahweh your God is giving youfor your own.	2 Separerai tre città nel mezzo del paese, di cui il Signore Dio tuo daratti il dominio,
3 You wil keep the approaches to them in good order, dividing the area of the country which Yahwehyour God is giving you as your heritage, into three parts, so that any kil er can flee to these towns.	3 E appianerai diligentemente le strade, e in tre parti dividerai tutto il continente della tua terra, affinché colui che è fuggiasco per ragion d'omicidio, abbia vicino un luogo, dove potere scampare.
4 Here is an example of how someone may save his life by fleeing to them. 'If anyone has struck hisfel ow accidental y, without any previous feud with him	4 Questa sarà la legge riguardo all'omicida, che prende la fuga, di cui dee salvarsi la vita: Se uno ha ferito il suo prossimo per accidente, e non si prova, che ieri, o ieri l'altro avesse odio alcuno contro di quello,
5 (for example, he goes with his fel ow into the forest to cut wood; his arm swings the axe to fel a tree;the head slips off the handle and strikes his companion dead), that man may take refuge in one of these townsand save his life.	5 Ma che era andato con lui semplicemente nel bosco a tagliar delle legna, e nel tagliarle gli era fuggita di mano la scure, e il ferro uscito del manico avea percosso e ucciso il suo amico: questi si rifuggirà in una delle sopraddette città, e sarà salvo;
6 It must not be allowed that the avenger of blood, in the heat of his anger, should pursue the kil er andthat the length of the road should help him to overtake and wound him fatal y; for the man has not deserved todie, having had no previous feud with his victim.	6 Affinché per disgrazia un parente di quello, il sangue di cui è stato sparso, stimolato dal dolore non gli tenga dietro, e gli metta le mani addosso, ove il viaggio fosse lungo, e uccida colui che non è reo di morte: atteso che non si prova, che avesse prima alcun odio contro l'ucciso.
7 'Hence I am giving you this order: You must set aside three towns,	7 Per questo io ti comando di porre queste tre città in pari distanza tra loro.
8 and if Yahweh your God enlarges your territory, as he swore to your ancestors that he would, andgives you the whole country which he promised to give to your ancestors-	8 Quando poi il Signore Dio tuo abbia ampliati i tuoi confini, conforme giurò ai padri tuoi, e ti avrà data tutta la terra, che ad essi promise,
9 provided that you keep and observe al the commandments which I am enjoining on you today, lovingYahweh your God and always following his ways-then, to those three towns you wil add three more.	9 (Se però osserverai i suoi comandamenti, e farai quello che io oggi ti prescrivo, che ami il Signore Dio tuo, e nelle vie di lui cammini in ogni tempo), aggiungerai a queste tre altre città, e raddoppierai il numero delle prime:
10 In this way, innocent blood will not be shed in the country which Yahweh your God is going to giveyou as your heritage; otherwise you would incur blood-guilt.	10 Affinché non si sparga il sangue innocente in seno alla terra, di cui il Signore Dio tuo daratti il possesso, affinché tu non sia reo di effusione di sangue.
11 'But if it happens that a man has a feud with his fel ow and lies in wait for him and attacks him andfatal y wounds him and he dies, and the man takes refuge in one of these towns,	11 Ma se uno portando odio al suo prossimo tenderà insidie alla vita di lui, e andandogli contro lo ferirà, onde quegli si muoia, ed egli siasi rifuggito in una delle sopraddette città,
12 the elders of his own town must send there and have him taken and handed over to the avenger ofblood, to be put to death.	12 I seniori della patria di lui manderanno a pigliarlo nel luogo, dove si è rifuggito, e lo daranno nelle mani del parente di colui del quale fu sparso il sangue, ed egli sarà messo a morte.
13 You must show him no pity. You must banish the shedding of innocent blood from Israel, and thenyou wil prosper.	13 Non avrai compassione di lui, e torrai da Israele il reato dell'effusione del sangue innocente, affinché tu sii prosperato.
14 'You must not displace your neighbour's boundary mark, positioned by men of old in the heritagesoon to be yours, in the country which Yahweh your God is about to give you.	14 Non ismoverai, e non trasporterai i termini del tuo prossimo piantati da quelli che ebbero per l’avanti le possessioni, che il Signore Dio tuo darà a te nella terra, di cui ti farà padrone.
15 'A single witness wil not suffice to convict anyone of a crime or offence of any kind; whatever themisdemeanour, the evidence of two witnesses or three is required to sustain the charge.	15 Non sarà sufficiente un sol testimonio contro chicchessia, qualunque siasi il peccato, e la scelleraggine: ma tutto si deciderà sul deposto di due, o di tre testimoni.
16 'If someone gives false evidence against anyone, laying a charge of apostasy,	16 Se un falso testimonio si presenta per accusare un uomo di prevaricazione,
17 both parties to this dispute before Yahweh must appear before the priests and judges then in office.	17 Si presenteranno ambedue questi contendenti dinanzi al Signore in presenza de' sacerdoti, e de' giudici, che saranno in quel tempo:
18 The judges wil make a careful enquiry, and if it turns out that the witness is a liar and has made a false accusation against his brother,	18 E quando questi dopo diligentissimo esame trovino, che il testimone falso ha detto bugia contro del suo fratello,
19 you must treat the witness as he would have treated his brother. You must banish this evil fromamong you.	19 Faranno a lui quello che egli ha avuto intenzione di fare al suo fratello, e torrai l'iniquità di mezzo a te:
20 The rest, hearing of this, wil be afraid and never again do such an evil thing among you.	20 Affinché ciò udendo tutti gli altri ne abbian timore, e non abbian mai ardimento di far cosa tale.
21 You must show no pity. 'Life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.'	21 Non avrai compassione di colui, ma farai ch'egli paghi vita per vita, occhio per occhio, dente per dente, mano per mano, gamba per gamba.
