Deuteronomy 15

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 There was also a man cal ed Ananias. He and his wife, Sapphira, agreed to sel a property;	1 Invece un uomo di nome Anania, con sua moglie Saffira, vendette un suo podere
2 but with his wife's connivance he kept back part of the price and brought the rest and presented it to theapostles.	2 e, d'accordo con la moglie, trattenne per sé una parte del prezzo e andò a deporre l'altra parte ai piedi degli apostoli.
3 Peter said, 'Ananias, how can Satan have so possessed you that you should lie to the Holy Spirit andkeep back part of the price of the land?	3 Pietro disse: "Anania, come mai Satana ti ha riempito il cuore fino a cercare d'ingannare lo Spirito Santo e trattenerti parte del prezzo del campo?
4 While you stil owned the land, wasn't it yours to keep, and after you had sold it wasn't the money yoursto do with as you liked? What put this scheme into your mind? You have been lying not to men, but to God.'	4 Non era forse tuo prima di venderlo e il ricavato della vendita non era forse a tua disposizione? Come mai hai potuto pensare in cuor tuo a un'azione simile? Non hai mentito a uomini, ma a Dio!".
5 When he heard this Ananias fel down dead. And a great fear came upon everyone present.	5 All'udire queste parole Anania cadde a terra morto. E un grande spavento s'impadronì di tutti quelli che stavano ascoltando.
6 The younger men got up, wrapped up the body, carried it out and buried it.	6 Subito alcuni giovani si mossero per avvolgerlo e portarlo a seppellire.
7 About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had taken place.	7 Or circa tre ore dopo si presentò anche sua moglie, senza sapere ciò che era avvenuto.
8 Peter chal enged her, 'Tel me, was this the price you sold the land for?' 'Yes,' she said, 'that was theprice.'	8 Pietro le domandò: "Dimmi, è per tanto che avete venduto il campo?". Ella rispose: "Sì, per questo prezzo".
9 Peter then said, 'Why did you and your husband agree to put the Spirit of the Lord to the test? Listen! Atthe door are the footsteps of those who have buried your husband; they wil carry you out, too.'	9 Pietro le disse: "Perché vi siete accordati per tentare lo Spirito del Signore? Ecco alla porta i passi di coloro che hanno sepolto tuo marito: porteranno via anche te".
10 Instantly she dropped dead at his feet. When the young men came in they found she was dead, andthey carried her out and buried her by the side of her husband.	10 Ella gli cadde improvvisamente ai piedi, morta. Quei giovani, entrati, la trovarono morta e la portarono a seppellire vicino a suo marito.
11 And a great fear came upon the whole church and on al who heard it.	11 Un grande spavento si diffuse per tutta la chiesa e in tutti coloro che ascoltavano queste cose.
12 The apostles worked many signs and miracles among the people. One in heart, they al used to meetin the Portico of Solomon.	12 Per mano degli apostoli avvenivano molti miracoli e prodigi in mezzo al popolo. Tutti stavano insieme uniti e concordi nel portico di Salomone.
13 No one else dared to join them, but the people were loud in their praise	13 Nessuno degli altri osava unirsi ad essi, ma il popolo ne faceva grandi lodi.
14 and the numbers of men and women who came to believe in the Lord increased steadily. Many signsand wonders were worked among the people at the hands of the apostles	14 Sempre più andava aumentando il numero dei credenti nel Signore, una moltitudine di uomini e di donne,
15 so that the sick were even taken out into the streets and laid on beds and sleeping-mats in the hopethat at least the shadow of Peter might fal across some of them as he went past.	15 tanto che i malati venivano portati nelle piazze e posti su lettini e barelle perché, quando Pietro passava, almeno la sua ombra ricoprisse qualcuno di loro.
16 People even came crowding in from the towns round about Jerusalem, bringing with them their sickand those tormented by unclean spirits, and al of them were cured.	16 La folla confluiva anche dalle città attorno a Gerusalemme, portando malati e persone tormentate da spiriti immondi, i quali tutti venivano guariti.
17 Then the high priest intervened with all his supporters from the party of the Sadducees. Fil ed withjealousy,	17 Allora si mossero il sommo sacerdote e tutti i suoi aderenti, cioè la setta dei sadducei. Pieni di gelosia
18 they arrested the apostles and had them put in the public gaol.	18 misero le mani sugli apostoli e li chiusero nel carcere pubblico.
19 But at night the angel of the Lord opened the prison gates and said as he led them out,	19 Ma un angelo del Signore di notte aprì le porte della prigione, li condusse fuori e disse:
20 'Go and take up position in the Temple, and tel the people all about this new Life.'	20 "Andate e mettetevi nel tempio a predicare al popolo tutta questa dottrina di vita".
21 They did as they were told; they went into the Temple at dawn and began to preach. When the highpriest arrived, he and his supporters convened the Sanhedrin -- this was the ful Senate of Israel -- and sent tothe gaol for them to be brought.	21 Udito ciò, entrarono di buon mattino nel tempio e insegnavano. Intanto sopraggiunsero il sommo sacerdote e i suoi aderenti e convocarono il sinedrio e tutto il senato dei figli d'Israele. Quindi mandarono (dei messi) alla prigione a prelevarli.
22 But when the officials arrived at the prison they found they were not inside, so they went back and reported,	22 Ma questi, giunti colà, non li trovarono nella prigione. Tornati indietro, riferirono ciò dicendo:
23 'We found the gaol securely locked and the warders on duty at the gates, but when we unlocked thedoor we found no one inside.'	23 "Abbiamo trovato la prigione chiusa con ogni cautela e le guardie in piedi davanti alle porte. Ma quando le abbiamo aperte, non abbiamo trovato dentro nessuno".
24 When the captain of the Temple and the chief priests heard this news they wondered what could behappening.	24 Udite queste parole, il comandante del tempio e i sommi sacerdoti si domandavano turbati come ciò sarebbe andato a finire.
25 Then a man arrived with fresh news. 'Look!' he said, 'the men you imprisoned are in the Temple. Theyare standing there preaching to the people.'	25 Ma qualcuno, sopraggiunto in quel momento, annunciò loro: "Ecco, gli uomini che avete messo in prigione stanno nel tempio e istruiscono il popolo".
26 The captain went with his men and fetched them -- though not by force, for they were afraid that thepeople might stone them.	26 Allora il comandante del tempio uscì con le guardie e li ricondusse, non però con la forza, poiché avevano paura di essere lapidati dal popolo.
27 When they had brought them in to face the Sanhedrin, the high priest demanded an explanation.	27 Condottili nel sinedrio, li posero in mezzo e il sommo sacerdote li interrogò:
28 'We gave you a strong warning', he said, 'not to preach in this name, and what have you done? Youhave fil ed Jerusalem with your teaching, and seem determined to fix the guilt for this man's death on us.'	28 "Non vi abbiamo forse formalmente ordinato di non insegnare più in questo nome? Ed ecco, avete riempito Gerusalemme del vostro insegnamento e volete far ricadere su di noi il sangue di quest'uomo".
29 In reply Peter and the apostles said, 'Obedience to God comes before obedience to men;	29 Ma Pietro e gli apostoli risposero: "Bisogna ubbidire a Dio piuttosto che agli uomini.
30 it was the God of our ancestors who raised up Jesus, whom you executed by hanging on a tree.	30 Il Dio dei nostri padri ha risuscitato Gesù che voi avete ucciso sospendendolo a un legno.
31 By his own right hand God has now raised him up to be leader and Saviour, to give repentance andforgiveness of sins through him to Israel.	31 Dio lo ha innalzato con la sua destra come capo supremo e salvatore per concedere a Israele la conversione e la remissione dei peccati.
32 We are witnesses to this, we and the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him.'	32 Di queste cose siamo testimoni noi e lo Spirito Santo che Dio ha dato a coloro che gli obbediscono".
33 This so infuriated them that they wanted to put them to death.	33 Ma quelli, udendo queste cose, si esasperarono e volevano ucciderli.
34 One member of the Sanhedrin, however, a Pharisee called Gamaliel, who was a teacher of the Lawrespected by the whole people, stood up and asked to have the men taken outside for a time.	34 Allora si alzò nel sinedrio un fariseo di nome Gamaliele, dottore della legge, onorato da tutto il popolo, e richiese che quegli uomini fossero condotti fuori un momento.
35 Then he addressed the Sanhedrin, 'Men of Israel, be careful how you deal with these people.	35 Poi disse loro: "Israeliti, riflettete bene su ciò che state per fare di questi uomini.
36 Some time ago there arose Theudas. He claimed to be someone important, and col ected about fourhundred fol owers; but when he was kil ed, al his fol owers scattered and that was the end of them.	36 Infatti tempo fa venne fuori Teuda, che si spacciava per un personaggio straordinario, e gli andò dietro un gran numero di uomini, quasi quattrocento. Ma quando fu ucciso, tutti i suoi aderenti furono dispersi e si ridussero a nulla.
37 And then there was Judas the Galilean, at the time of the census, who attracted crowds of supporters;but he was kil ed too, and al his fol owers dispersed.	37 Dopo di lui saltò fuori Giuda il Galileo, nei giorni del censimento, e trascinò il popolo dietro di sé. Ma anch'egli finì male e tutti i suoi aderenti furono dispersi.
38 What I suggest, therefore, is that you leave these men alone and let them go. If this enterprise, thismovement of theirs, is of human origin it wil break up of its own accord;	38 Or dunque io vi dico: non impicciatevi di questi uomini e lasciateli fare. Perché se questo è un progetto o un'impresa messa su dagli uomini, sarà distrutta;
39 but if it does in fact come from God you wil be unable to destroy them. Take care not to find yourselvesfighting against God.' His advice was accepted;	39 ma se viene da Dio, non potrete annientarli: guardatevi dal farvi trovare in lotta con Dio!". Si attennero al consiglio
40 and they had the apostles called in, gave orders for them to be flogged, warned them not to speak inthe name of Jesus and released them.	40 e, fatti chiamare gli apostoli, li fecero percuotere e comandarono loro di non parlare più nel nome di Gesù. Quindi li rilasciarono.
41 And so they left the presence of the Sanhedrin, glad to have had the honour of suffering humiliation forthe sake of the name.	41 Essi se ne andavano via dal sinedrio lieti perché erano stati fatti degni di subire oltraggi per il nome.
42 Every day they went on ceaselessly teaching and proclaiming the good news of Christ Jesus, both inthe temple and in private houses.	42 E ogni giorno, nel tempio e per le case, non cessavano di insegnare e di annunciare la buona novella del Cristo Gesù.
