Deuteronomy 15

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 'At the end of every seven years, you must grant remission.	1 Au bout de sept ans tu feras remise.
2 The nature of the remission is as fol ows: any creditor holding a personal pledge obtained from hisfel ow must release him from it; he must not exploit his fel ow or his brother once the latter has appealed toYahweh for remission.	2 Voici en quoi consiste la remise. Tout détenteur d'un gage personnel qu'il aura obtenu de sonprochain, lui en fera remise; il n'exploitera pas son prochain ni son frère, quand celui-ci en aura appelé à Yahvépour remise.
3 A foreigner you may exploit, but you must remit whatever claim you have on your brother.	3 Tu pourras exploiter l'étranger, mais tu libéreras ton frère de ton droit sur lui.
4 There must, then, be no poor among you. For Yahweh wil grant you his blessing in the country whichYahweh your God is giving you to possess as your heritage,	4 Qu'il n'y ait donc pas de pauvre chez toi. Car Yahvé ne t'accordera sa bénédiction dans lepays que Yahvé ton Dieu te donne en héritage pour le posséder,
5 only if you pay careful attention to the voice of Yahweh your God, by keeping and practising al thesecommandments which I am enjoining on you today.	5 que si tu écoutes vraiment la voix de Yahvé ton Dieu, en gardant et pratiquant tous cescommandements que je te prescris aujourd'hui.
6 If Yahweh your God blesses you as he has promised, you wil be creditors to many nations butdebtors to none; you wil rule over many nations, and be ruled by none.	6 Si Yahvé ton Dieu te bénit comme il l'a dit, tu prêteras à des nations nombreuses, sans avoirbesoin de leur emprunter, et tu domineras des nations nombreuses, sans qu'elles te dominent.
7 'Is there anyone poor among you, one of your brothers, in any town of yours in the country whichYahweh your God is giving you? Do not harden your heart or close your hand against that poor brother of yours,	7 Se trouve-t-il chez toi un pauvre, d'entre tes frères, dans l'une des villes de ton pays queYahvé ton Dieu t'a donné? Tu n'endurciras pas ton coeur ni ne fermeras ta main à ton frère pauvre,
8 but be open handed with him and lend him enough for his needs.	8 mais tu lui ouvriras ta main et tu lui prêteras ce qui lui manque.
9 Do not allow this mean thought in your heart, "The seventh year, the year of remission, is near," andscowl at your poor brother and give him nothing; he could appeal against you to Yahweh, and you would incurguilt!	9 Ne va pas tenir en ton coeur ces mauvais propos: "Voici bientôt la septième année, l'année deremise", en regardant méchamment ton frère pauvre sans rien lui donner; il en appellerait à Yahvé contre toi et tuserais chargé d'un péché!
10 When you give to him, you must give with an open heart; for this, Yahweh your God wil bless you inal your actions and in al your undertakings.	10 Quand tu lui donnes, tu dois lui donner de bon coeur, car pour cela Yahvé ton Dieu tebénira dans toutes tes actions et dans tous tes travaux.
11 Of course, there wil never cease to be poor people in the country, and that is why I am giving youthis command: Always be open handed with your brother, and with anyone in your country who is in need andpoor.	11 Certes, les pauvres ne disparaîtront point de ce pays; aussi je te donne ce commandement:Tu dois ouvrir ta main à ton frère, à celui qui est humilié et pauvre dans ton pays.
12 'If your fel ow Hebrew, man or woman, sells himself to you, he can serve you for six years. In theseventh year you must set him free,	12 Si ton frère hébreu, homme ou femme, se vend à toi, il te servira six ans. La septième annéetu le renverras libre
13 and in setting him free you must not let him go empty handed.	13 et, le renvoyant libre, tu ne le renverras pas les mains vides.
14 By way of present, you will load his shoulders with things from your flock, from your threshing-floorand from your winepress; as Yahweh your God has blessed you, so you must give to him.	14 Tu chargeras sur ses épaules, à titre de cadeau, quelque produit de ton petit bétail, de tonaire et de ton pressoir; selon ce dont t'aura béni Yahvé ton Dieu, tu lui donneras.
15 Remember that you were once a slave in Egypt and that Yahweh your God redeemed you; that iswhy I am giving you this order today.	15 Tu te souviendras que tu as été en servitude au pays d'Egypte et que Yahvé ton Dieu t'aracheté: voilà pourquoi je te donne aujourd'hui cet ordre.
16 'But if he says to you, "I do not want to leave you," because he loves you and your household and ishappy with you,	16 Mais s'il te dit: "Je ne veux pas te quitter", s'il t'aime, toi et ta maison, s'il est heureux avectoi,
17 you must take an awl and drive it through his ear into the door and he will be your servant for ever.You must do the same to a female slave.	17 tu prendras un poinçon, tu lui en perceras l'oreille contre la porte et il sera ton serviteur pourtoujours. Envers ta servante tu feras de même.
18 'Do not think it hard on you to have to give him his freedom; he is worth twice what a paid servantwould cost you, and has served you for six years. And Yahweh your God wil bless you in everything you do.	18 Qu'il ne te semble pas trop pénible de le renvoyer en liberté: il vaut deux fois le salaire d'unmercenaire, celui qui t'aura servi six ans. Et Yahvé ton Dieu te bénira en tout ce que tu feras.
19 'You must consecrate every first-born male from your herd and flock to Yahweh your God. You mustnot put the first-born of your herd to work, or shear the first-born of your flock.	19 Tout premier-né mâle de ta vache ou de ta brebis, tu le consacreras à Yahvé ton Dieu. Tu neferas pas travailler le premier-né de ta vache, ni ne tondras le premier-né de ta brebis.
20 You must eat it, you and your household, each year, in the presence of Yahweh your God, in theplace which Yahweh chooses.	20 Tu le mangeras, toi et ta maison, chaque année, en présence de Yahvé ton Dieu au lieuchoisi par Yahvé.
21 If it has any defect, if it is lame or blind -- any serious defect -- you must not sacrifice it to Yahwehyour God.	21 S'il a quelque tare, s'il est boiteux ou aveugle, n'importe quelle tare grave, tu ne l'immoleraspas à Yahvé ton Dieu;
22 You wil eat it at home, unclean and clean together, as you would gazel e or deer;	22 tu le mangeras chez toi, purs et impurs réunis, comme tu mangerais de la gazelle ou du cerf;
23 only, you will not eat its blood, but pour that like water on the ground.'	23 seulement, tu n'en mangeras pas le sang, tu le répandras à terre comme de l'eau.
