Deuteronomy 12

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 'Now, these are the laws and customs which you must keep in the country which Yahweh, God of yourancestors, is giving you as yours, and which you must observe every day that you live in that country.	1 Estos son los preceptos y las leyes que ustedes deberán observar y poner en práctica, mientras vivan en la tierra que el Señor, el Dios de tus padres, te da en posesión.
2 'You must completely destroy all the places where the nations you dispossess have served their gods,on high mountains, on hills, under any spreading tree;	2 Harán desaparecer todos los lugares de culto, donde las naciones que ustedes van a desposeer sirven a sus dioses, en las montañas, sobre las colinas y debajo de todo árbol frondoso.
3 you must tear down their altars, smash their sacred stones, burn their sacred poles, hack to bits thestatues of their gods and obliterate their name from that place.	3 Derriben sus altares, rompan sus piedras conmemorativas, prendan fuego a sus postes sagrados, destruyan las imágenes de sus ídolos y borren hasta sus nombres de aquel lugar.
4 'Not so must you behave towards Yahweh your God.	4 Pero con el Señor, su Dios, ustedes se comportarán de una manera distinta.
5 You must seek Yahweh your God in the place which he wil choose from al your tribes, there to sethis name and give it a home: that is where you must go.	5 Irán a buscarlo al lugar que él elija entre todas las tribus, para constituirlo morada de su Nombre.
6 That is where you must bring your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes and offerings heldhigh, your votive offerings and your voluntary offerings, and the first-born of your herd and flock;	6 Solamente allí presentarán sus holocaustos y sacrificios, sus diezmos y sus dones, sus ofrendas votivas y voluntarias, y también las primicias de sus ganados y rebaños.
7 and that is where you must eat in the presence of Yahweh your God, rejoicing over your labours, youand your households, because Yahweh your God has blessed you.	7 Allí, ustedes y sus familias comerán en la presencia del Señor, su Dios, y se alegrarán por todos los beneficios que hayan obtenido de su trabajo, porque el Señor, tu Dios, te bendijo.
8 'You must not behave as we are behaving here today, each of you doing what he himself sees fit,	8 Entonces no se comportarán como lo hacemos ahora. Aquí cada uno hace lo que mejor le parece,
9 since you have not yet come to the resting place and the heritage that Yahweh your God is going togive you.	9 porque todavía no han entrado en el lugar del descanso y en la herencia que el Señor, tu Dios, te dará.
10 You are about to cross the Jordan and live in the country given you by Yahweh your God as yourheritage; he will grant you peace from al the enemies surrounding you, and you wil live in safety.	10 Pero cuando pasen el Jordán y se establezcan en la tierra que el Señor, su Dios, les dará como herencia, cuando él les dé el descanso, librándolos de todos los enemigos que estén a su alrededor, y ustedes se sientan seguros,
11 To the place chosen by Yahweh your God as a home for his name, to that place you must bring althe things that I am laying down for you: your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes and offerings heldhigh, and al the best of your possessions dedicated by you to Yahweh.	11 llevarán al lugar que el Señor, su Dios, elija para constituirlo morada de su Nombre, todo lo que yo les ordeno: sus holocaustos y sacrificios, sus diezmos, sus dones y las ofrendas escogidas que le hayan prometido al Señor mediante un voto.
12 That is where you will rejoice in the presence of Yahweh your God, you and your sons anddaughters, your serving men and women, and the Levite living in your community since he has no share orheritage of his own among you.	12 Y ustedes se alegrarán en la presencia del Señor, su Dios, junto con sus hijos y sus hijas, sus esclavos y sus esclavas y también con el levita que viva en sus ciudades, ya que él no tendrán posesión ni herencia entre ustedes.
13 'Take care you do not offer your burnt offerings in al the sacred places you see;	13 Ten cuidado, entonces, de no ofrecer tus holocaustos en cualquier santuario que veas.
14 only in the place that Yahweh chooses in one of your tribes may you offer your burnt offerings and doal the things which I have commanded you.	14 Los ofrecerás únicamente en el lugar elegido por el Señor, tu Dios, en una de tus tribus, y allí harás todo lo que yo te ordeno.
15 'This notwithstanding, and whenever you wish, you may slaughter and eat meat wherever you live --as much as the blessing of Yahweh affords you. Clean or unclean may eat it, as though it were gazel e or deer.	15 Sin embargo, podrás matar animales y comer carne en cualquiera de tus ciudades, siempre que así lo desees y en la medida en que el Señor, tu Dios, te bendiga. Podrán comerla igualmente el impuro y el puro, como si se tratara de un ciervo o de una gacela.
16 You wil not, however, eat the blood, but wil pour that like water on the ground.	16 Pero no comerán la sangre, sino que la derramarás en la tierra, como si fuera agua.
17 'You must not eat the tithe of your wheat, of your new wine or of your oil, or the first-born of your herdor flock, or any of your votive offerings or voluntary offerings, or your offerings held high to Yahweh, at home.	17 Tampoco comerás en tus ciudades el diezmo de tu trigo, de tu vino y de tu aceite, ni las primicias de tu ganado y tus rebaños, ni lo que hayas prometido al Señor mediante un voto, ni tus ofrendas voluntarias, ni tus dones.
18 You must eat these in the presence of Yahweh your God in the place Yahweh your God choosesand there alone, you, your son and your daughter, your serving man and serving woman, and the Levite living inyour community, expressing your joy in al your labours in the presence of Yahweh your God.	18 Lo harás en presencia del Señor, tu Dios –en el lugar elegido por él– junto con tu hijo y tu hija, tu esclavo y tu esclava, y con el levita que viva en tu ciudad. Y en la presencia del Señor, tu Dios, te alegrarás por todos los beneficios que hayas obtenido de tu trabajo.
19 As long as you live on your soil, be careful not to neglect the Levite.	19 Ten cuidado de no abandonar nunca al levita.
20 'When Yahweh your God enlarges your territory as he has promised you, and you say, "I should liketo eat meat," if you want to eat meat you may eat as much as you like.	20 Cuando el Señor, tu Dios, ensanche tus fronteras, como te lo ha prometido, y sientas deseos de comer carne, podrás comer toda la que quieras.
21 If the place in which Yahweh your God chooses to set his name is too far away, you may slaughterany of your herd or flock that Yahweh has given you, as I have prescribed for you; you may eat as much of it asyou please at home.	21 Si el lugar que el Señor, tu Dios, elija para constituirlo morada de su Nombre, se encuentra demasiado lejos, tú mismo podrás matar, conforme a mis prescripciones, los animales del ganado mayor o menor que el Señor, tu Dios, te dará. Y comerás en tu ciudad todo lo que quieras,
22 But you must eat it as you would gazel e or deer; clean and unclean may eat it together.	22 del mismo modo que se come una gacela o un ciervo. Podrán comerla igualmente el puro y el impuro;
23 Take care, however, not to eat the blood, since blood is life, and you must not eat the life with themeat.	23 sólo tendrás que abstenerte de comer la sangre, porque la sangre es la vida, y tú no debes comer la vida junto con la carne.
24 You must not eat it, but must pour it like water on the ground.	24 Por eso, derramarás la sangre en la tierra, como si fuera agua.
25 You must not eat it -- so that you, and your children after you, may prosper, doing what is right inYahweh's eyes.	25 Así serán felices. Tú y tus hijos después de ti, porque habrás realizado lo que es bueno y recto a los ojos del Señor tu Dios.
26 But the holy things of yours and the things which you have dedicated, you must go and take to theplace chosen by Yahweh.	26 Pero los dones que debas consagrar al Señor y los que ofrezcas en cumplimiento de un voto, irás a llevarlos al lugar que el Señor elija.
27 The burnt offerings of meat and blood must be presented on the altar of Yahweh your God; whereas,in your sacrifices, the blood must be poured on the altar of Yahweh your God; the meat you yourselves may eat.	27 Allí harás el holocausto de la carne y de la sangre sobre el altar del Señor, tu Dios. En cuanto a tus sacrificios, la sangre será derramada sobre el altar del Señor, tu Dios, y tú comerás la carne.
28 Faithful y keep and obey al these orders which I am giving you, so that you and your children afteryou may prosper for ever, doing what is good and right in the eyes of Yahweh your God.	28 Escucha atentamente todas estas cosas que yo te mando. Así serás feliz, tú y tus hijos después de ti, porque habrás realizado lo que es bueno y recto a los ojos del Señor, tu Dios.
29 'When Yahweh your God has annihilated the nations confronting you, whom you are going todispossess, and when you have dispossessed them and made your home in their country,	29 Y cuando el Señor, tu Dios, extirpe a las naciones que tú vas a desposeer, cuando las desalojes y te instales en su territorio,
30 beware of being entrapped into copying them, after they have been destroyed to make way for you,and do not enquire about their gods, saying, "How did these nations worship their gods? I am going to do thesame too."	30 ten cuidado, no sea que caigas en una trampa. No sigas su ejemplo después que hayan desaparecido de tu presencia, ni hagas averiguaciones respecto de sus dioses, diciendo: «¿Cómo servían a sus dioses estas naciones para que yo pueda hacer lo mismo?».
31 This is not the way to treat Yahweh your God. For in honour of their gods they have done everythingdetestable that Yahweh hates; yes, in honour of their gods, they even burn their own sons and daughters assacrifices!'	31 No obres de esa manera con el Señor, tu Dios. Porque él considera abominable y detesta todo lo que ellas hacen para honrar a sus dioses, ya que llegan incluso a quemar a sus hijos y a sus hijas en homenaje a esos dioses.
