Luke 15

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 The tax col ectors and sinners, however, were al crowding round to listen to him,	1 Cependant tous les publicains et les pécheurs s'approchaient de lui pour l'entendre.
2 and the Pharisees and scribes complained saying, 'This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.'	2 Et les Pharisiens et les scribes de murmurer: "Cet homme, disaient-ils, fait bon accueil aux pécheurs etmange avec eux!"
3 So he told them this parable:	3 Il leur dit alors cette parabole:
4 'Which one of you with a hundred sheep, if he lost one, would fail to leave the ninety-nine in the desertand go after the missing one till he found it?	4 "Lequel d'entre vous, s'il a cent brebis et vient à en perdre une, n'abandonne les 89 autres dans le désertpour s'en aller après celle qui est perdue, jusqu'à ce qu'il l'ait retrouvée?
5 And when he found it, would he not joyful y take it on his shoulders	5 Et, quand il l'a retrouvée, il la met, tout joyeux, sur ses épaules
6 and then, when he got home, cal together his friends and neighbours, saying to them, "Rejoice withme, I have found my sheep that was lost."	6 et, de retour chez lui, il assemble amis et voisins et leur dit: Réjouissez-vous avec moi, car je l'airetrouvée, ma brebis qui était perdue!
7 In the same way, I tell you, there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner repenting than overninety-nine upright people who have no need of repentance.	7 C'est ainsi, je vous le dis, qu'il y aura plus de joie dans le ciel pour un seul pécheur qui se repent quepour 99 justes, qui n'ont pas besoin de repentir.
8 'Or again, what woman with ten drachmas would not, if she lost one, light a lamp and sweep out thehouse and search thoroughly till she found it?	8 "Ou bien, quelle est la femme qui, si elle a dix drachmes et vient à en perdre une, n'allume une lampe,ne balaie la maison et ne cherche avec soin, jusqu'à ce qu'elle l'ait retrouvée?
9 And then, when she had found it, cal together her friends and neighbours, saying to them, "Rejoicewith me, I have found the drachma I lost."	9 Et, quand elle l'a retrouvée, elle assemble amies et voisines et leur dit: Réjouissez-vous avec moi, carje l'ai retrouvée, la drachme que j'avais perdue!
10 In the same way, I tel you, there is rejoicing among the angels of God over one repentant sinner.'	10 C'est ainsi, je vous le dis, qu'il naît de la joie devant les anges de Dieu pour un seul pécheur qui serepent."
11 Then he said, 'There was a man who had two sons.	11 Il dit encore: "Un homme avait deux fils.
12 The younger one said to his father, "Father, let me have the share of the estate that wil come to me."So the father divided the property between them.	12 Le plus jeune dit à son père: Père, donne-moi la part de fortune qui me revient. Et le père leurpartagea son bien.
13 A few days later, the younger son got together everything he had and left for a distant country wherehe squandered his money on a life of debauchery.	13 Peu de jours après, rassemblant tout son avoir, le plus jeune fils partit pour un pays lointain et ydissipa son bien en vivant dans l'inconduite.
14 'When he had spent it al , that country experienced a severe famine, and now he began to feel thepinch;	14 "Quand il eut tout dépensé, une famine sévère survint en cette contrée et il commença à sentir laprivation.
15 so he hired himself out to one of the local inhabitants who put him on his farm to feed the pigs.	15 Il alla se mettre au service d'un des habitants de cette contrée, qui l'envoya dans ses champs garderles cochons.
16 And he would wil ingly have fil ed himself with the husks the pigs were eating but no one would lethim have them.	16 Il aurait bien voulu se remplir le ventre des caroubes que mangeaient les cochons, et personne ne luien donnait.
17 Then he came to his senses and said, "How many of my father's hired men have al the food theywant and more, and here am I dying of hunger!	17 Rentrant alors en lui-même, il se dit: Combien de mercenaires de mon père ont du pain ensurabondance, et moi je suis ici à périr de faim!
18 I wil leave this place and go to my father and say: Father, I have sinned against heaven and againstyou;	18 Je veux partir, aller vers mon père et lui dire: Père, j'ai péché contre le Ciel et envers toi;
19 I no longer deserve to be cal ed your son; treat me as one of your hired men."	19 je ne mérite plus d'être appelé ton fils, traite-moi comme l'un de tes mercenaires.
20 So he left the place and went back to his father. 'While he was stil a long way off, his father saw himand was moved with pity. He ran to the boy, clasped him in his arms and kissed him.	20 Il partit donc et s'en alla vers son père. "Tandis qu'il était encore loin, son père l'aperçut et fut pris depitié; il courut se jeter à son cou et l'embrassa tendrement.
21 Then his son said, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I no longer deserve to becal ed your son."	21 Le fils alors lui dit: Père, j'ai péché contre le Ciel et envers toi, je ne mérite plus d'être appelé ton fils.
22 But the father said to his servants, "Quick! Bring out the best robe and put it on him; put a ring on hisfinger and sandals on his feet.	22 Mais le père dit à ses serviteurs: Vite, apportez la plus belle robe et l'en revêtez, mettez-lui un anneauau doigt et des chaussures aux pieds.
23 Bring the calf we have been fattening, and kil it; we wil celebrate by having a feast,	23 Amenez le veau gras, tuez-le, mangeons et festoyons,
24 because this son of mine was dead and has come back to life; he was lost and is found." And theybegan to celebrate.	24 car mon fils que voilà était mort et il est revenu à la vie; il était perdu et il est retrouvé! Et ils semirent à festoyer.
25 'Now the elder son was out in the fields, and on his way back, as he drew near the house, he couldhear music and dancing.	25 "Son fils aîné était aux champs. Quand, à son retour, il fut près de la maison, il entendit de la musiqueet des danses.
26 Cal ing one of the servants he asked what it was all about.	26 Appelant un des serviteurs, il s'enquérait de ce que cela pouvait bien être.
27 The servant told him, "Your brother has come, and your father has kil ed the calf we had beenfattening because he has got him back safe and sound."	27 Celui-ci lui dit: C'est ton frère qui est arrivé, et ton père a tué le veau gras, parce qu'il l'a recouvré enbonne santé.
28 He was angry then and refused to go in, and his father came out and began to urge him to come in;	28 Il se mit alors en colère, et il refusait d'entrer. Son père sortit l'en prier.
29 but he retorted to his father, "Al these years I have slaved for you and never once disobeyed anyorders of yours, yet you never offered me so much as a kid for me to celebrate with my friends.	29 Mais il répondit à son père: Voilà tant d'années que je te sers, sans avoir jamais transgressé un seul detes ordres, et jamais tu ne m'as donné un chevreau, à moi, pour festoyer avec mes amis;
30 But, for this son of yours, when he comes back after swallowing up your property -- he and his loosewomen -- you kil the calf we had been fattening."	30 et puis ton fils que voici revient-il, après avoir dévoré ton bien avec des prostituées, tu fais tuer pourlui le veau gras!
31 'The father said, "My son, you are with me always and all I have is yours.	31 "Mais le père lui dit: Toi, mon enfant, tu es toujours avec moi, et tout ce qui est à moi est à toi.
32 But it was only right we should celebrate and rejoice, because your brother here was dead and hascome to life; he was lost and is found." '	32 Mais il fallait bien festoyer et se réjouir, puisque ton frère que voilà était mort et il est revenu à la vie;il était perdu et il est retrouvé!"
