1 The tax col ectors and sinners, however, were al crowding round to listen to him,	1 On voyait tous les collecteurs de l’impôt et les pécheurs s’approcher de Jésus pour l’écouter.
2 and the Pharisees and scribes complained saying, 'This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.'	2 Les Pharisiens et les maîtres de la Loi s’en plaignaient: "Cet homme, disaient-ils, fait bon accueil aux pécheurs et mange avec eux!”
3 So he told them this parable:	3 Aussi Jésus dit-il à leur intention cette parabole:
4 'Which one of you with a hundred sheep, if he lost one, would fail to leave the ninety-nine in the desertand go after the missing one till he found it?	4 "Imaginez que l’un d’entre vous possède 100 brebis, et il en a perdu une. Est-ce qu’il ne va pas laisser les 99 autres dans le désert, et courir après celle qui s’est perdue jusqu’à ce qu’il la retrouve?
5 And when he found it, would he not joyful y take it on his shoulders	5 Quand il l’a retrouvée, il la met tout joyeux sur ses épaules et,
6 and then, when he got home, cal together his friends and neighbours, saying to them, "Rejoice withme, I have found my sheep that was lost."	6 rentré chez lui, il rassemble amis et voisins et leur dit: ‘Partagez ma joie, car j’ai retrouvé ma brebis perdue!’
7 In the same way, I tell you, there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner repenting than overninety-nine upright people who have no need of repentance.	7 “Je vous le dis: Il y aura plus de joie dans le ciel pour un pécheur qui se repent que pour 99 justes qui n’ont pas besoin de se repentir.
8 'Or again, what woman with ten drachmas would not, if she lost one, light a lamp and sweep out thehouse and search thoroughly till she found it?	8 “Si une femme a dix pièces d’argent, et qu’elle en perd une, ne va-t-elle pas allumer une lampe, balayer la maison et chercher soigneusement jusqu’à ce qu’elle la trouve?
9 And then, when she had found it, cal together her friends and neighbours, saying to them, "Rejoicewith me, I have found the drachma I lost."	9 Et quand elle l’a retrouvée, elle rassemble ses amies et voisines et leur dit: ‘Partagez ma joie, car j’ai retrouvé la pièce que j’avais perdue!’
10 In the same way, I tel you, there is rejoicing among the angels of God over one repentant sinner.'	10 De même, je vous le dis, on est tout joyeux chez les anges de Dieu pour un seul pécheur qui se repent.”
11 Then he said, 'There was a man who had two sons.	11 Jésus dit encore: "Un homme avait deux fils.
12 The younger one said to his father, "Father, let me have the share of the estate that wil come to me."So the father divided the property between them.	12 Le plus jeune dit à son père: ‘Père, donne-moi la part du domaine qui me revient.’ Et le père leur partagea son bien.
13 A few days later, the younger son got together everything he had and left for a distant country wherehe squandered his money on a life of debauchery.	13 Le plus jeune fils ramassa tout et partit peu après pour un pays lointain où il dépensa son héritage dans une vie de désordres.
14 'When he had spent it al , that country experienced a severe famine, and now he began to feel thepinch;	14 “Quand il eut tout dépensé, une grande famine s’abattit sur ce pays et il commença à manquer de tout.
15 so he hired himself out to one of the local inhabitants who put him on his farm to feed the pigs.	15 Il alla donc se mettre au service d’un des habitants du pays qui l’envoya dans ses champs pour garder les cochons.
16 And he would wil ingly have fil ed himself with the husks the pigs were eating but no one would lethim have them.	16 Là il aurait bien voulu se remplir le ventre des caroubes que mangeaient les cochons, mais à lui, personne ne lui donnait rien.
17 Then he came to his senses and said, "How many of my father's hired men have al the food theywant and more, and here am I dying of hunger!	17 “Il rentra alors en lui-même: ‘Combien d’ouvriers de mon père, se dit-il, ont du pain plus qu’il n’en faut, et moi ici je meurs de faim.
18 I wil leave this place and go to my father and say: Father, I have sinned against heaven and againstyou;	18 Je vais me lever, retourner vers mon père, et je lui dirai: Père, j’ai péché contre le Ciel et devant toi.
19 I no longer deserve to be cal ed your son; treat me as one of your hired men."	19 Je ne suis plus digne d’être appelé ton fils, mais prends-moi comme l’un de tes ouvriers.’
20 So he left the place and went back to his father. 'While he was stil a long way off, his father saw himand was moved with pity. He ran to the boy, clasped him in his arms and kissed him.	20 Il se mit donc en route et retourna chez son père. “Quand il était encore loin, son père l’aperçut et fut pris de pitié; il courut se jeter à son cou et l’embrassa tendrement.
21 Then his son said, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I no longer deserve to becal ed your son."	21 Le fils alors lui dit: ‘Père, j’ai péché contre le Ciel et devant toi, je ne suis plus digne d’être appelé ton fils.’
22 But the father said to his servants, "Quick! Bring out the best robe and put it on him; put a ring on hisfinger and sandals on his feet.	22 “Mais le père dit à ses serviteurs: ‘Apportez vite la plus belle tunique et habillez-le, mettez-lui un anneau au doigt et des chaussures aux pieds.
23 Bring the calf we have been fattening, and kil it; we wil celebrate by having a feast,	23 Allez chercher le veau gras et tuez-le, car il nous faut manger et faire la fête:
24 because this son of mine was dead and has come back to life; he was lost and is found." And theybegan to celebrate.	24 mon fils que voici était mort et il est revenu à la vie, il était perdu et il est retrouvé.’ Et ils commencèrent à faire la fête.
25 'Now the elder son was out in the fields, and on his way back, as he drew near the house, he couldhear music and dancing.	25 “Le fils aîné était aux champs, mais il finit par rentrer. Comme il approchait de la maison, il entendit la musique et les danses.
26 Cal ing one of the servants he asked what it was all about.	26 Il appela l’un des garçons et lui demanda ce qui se passait.
27 The servant told him, "Your brother has come, and your father has kil ed the calf we had beenfattening because he has got him back safe and sound."	27 L’autre lui répondit: ‘C’est ton frère qui est arrivé et ton père a tué le veau gras car il l’a retrouvé en bonne santé.’
28 He was angry then and refused to go in, and his father came out and began to urge him to come in;	28 “Il se mit en colère. Comme il refusait d’entrer, son père sortit pour l’en prier.
29 but he retorted to his father, "Al these years I have slaved for you and never once disobeyed anyorders of yours, yet you never offered me so much as a kid for me to celebrate with my friends.	29 Mais il répondit à son père: ‘Voilà tant d’années que je te sers sans avoir jamais désobéi à un seul de tes ordres, et à moi tu ne m’as jamais donné un chevreau pour faire la fête avec mes amis.
30 But, for this son of yours, when he comes back after swallowing up your property -- he and his loosewomen -- you kil the calf we had been fattening."	30 Mais lorsque revient ton fils que voilà, celui qui a mangé toute ta fortune avec les prostituées, tu fais tuer pour lui le veau gras!’
31 'The father said, "My son, you are with me always and all I have is yours.	31 “Le père lui dit: ‘Toi, mon enfant, tu es toujours avec moi et tout ce qui est à moi est à toi.
32 But it was only right we should celebrate and rejoice, because your brother here was dead and hascome to life; he was lost and is found." '	32 C’est maintenant qu’il fallait faire la fête et se réjouir, car ton frère que voilà était mort et il est revenu à la vie; il était perdu et il est retrouvé!’ ”
