Matthew 21

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 When they were near Jerusalem and had come to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, then Jesus senttwo disciples,	1 Cuando se aproximaron a Jerusalén, al llegar a Betfagé, junto al monte de los Olivos, entonces envió Jesús a dos discípulos,
2 saying to them, 'Go to the village facing you, and you wil at once find a tethered donkey and a coltwith her. Untie them and bring them to me.	2 diciéndoles: «Id al pueblo que está enfrente de vosotros, y enseguida encontraréis un asna atada y un pollino con ella; desatadlos y traédmelos.
3 If anyone says anything to you, you are to say, "The Master needs them and wil send them back atonce." '	3 Y si alguien os dice algo, diréis: El Señor los necesita, pero enseguida los devolverá».
4 This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet:	4 Esto sucedió para que se cumpliese el oráculo del profeta:
5 Say to the daughter of Zion: Look, your king is approaching, humble and riding on a donkey and on acolt, the foal of a beast of burden.	5 Decid a la hija de Sión: He aquí que tu Rey viene a ti, manso y montado en un asna y un pollino, hijo de animal de yugo.
6 So the disciples went and did as Jesus had told them.	6 Fueron, pues, los discípulos e hicieron como Jesús les había encargado:
7 They brought the donkey and the colt, then they laid their cloaks on their backs and he took his seaton them.	7 trajeron el asna y el pollino. Luego pusieron sobre ellos sus mantos, y él se sentó encima.
8 Great crowds of people spread their cloaks on the road, while others were cutting branches from thetrees and spreading them in his path.	8 La gente, muy numerosa, extendió sus mantos por el camino; otros cortaban ramas de los árboles y las tendían por el camino.
9 The crowds who went in front of him and those who fol owed were al shouting: Hosanna to the son ofDavid! Blessed is he who is coming in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heavens!	9 Y la gente que iba delante y detrás de él gritaba: «¡Hosanna al Hijo de David! ¡Bendito el que viene en nombre del Señor! ¡Hosanna en las alturas!»
10 And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was in turmoil as people asked, 'Who is this?'	10 Y al entrar él en Jerusalén, toda la ciudad se conmovió. «¿Quién es éste?» decían.
11 and the crowds answered, 'This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee.'	11 Y la gente decía: «Este es el profeta Jesús, de Nazaret de Galilea».
12 Jesus then went into the Temple and drove out al those who were selling and buying there; he upsetthe tables of the money-changers and the seats of the dove-sel ers.	12 Entró Jesús en el Templo y echó fuera a todos los que vendían y compraban en el Templo; volcó las mesas de los cambistas y los puestos de los vendedores de palomas.
13 He said to them, 'According to scripture, my house wil be cal ed a house of prayer; but you areturning it into a bandits' den.'	13 Y les dijo: «Está escrito: Mi Casa será llamada Casa de oración. ¡Pero vosotros estáis haciendo de ella una cueva de bandidos!»
14 There were also blind and lame people who came to him in the Temple, and he cured them.	14 También en el Templo se acercaron a él algunos ciegos y cojos, y los curó.
15 At the sight of the wonderful things he did and of the children shouting, 'Hosanna to the son of David'in the Temple, the chief priests and the scribes were indignant and said to him,	15 Mas los sumos sacerdotes y los escribas, al ver los milagros que había hecho y a los niños que gritaban en el Templo: «¡Hosanna al Hijo de David!», se indignaron
16 'Do you hear what they are saying?' Jesus answered, 'Yes. Have you never read this: By the mouthsof children, babes in arms, you have made sure of praise?'	16 y le dijeron: «¿Oyes lo que dicen éstos?» «Sí - les dice Jesús -. ¿No habéis leído nunca que De la boca de los niños y de los que aún maman te preparaste alabanza?»
17 With that he left them and went out of the city to Bethany, where he spent the night.	17 Y dejándolos, salió fuera de la ciudad, a Betania, donde pasó la noche.
18 As he was returning to the city in the early morning, he felt hungry.	18 Al amanecer, cuando volvía a la ciudad, sintió hambre;
19 Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it and found nothing on it but leaves. And he said to it,'May you never bear fruit again,' and instantly the fig tree withered.	19 y viendo una higuera junto al camino, se acercó a ella, pero no encontró en ella más que hojas. Entonces le dice: «¡Que nunca jamás brote fruto de ti!» Y al momento se secó la higuera.
20 The disciples were amazed when they saw it and said, 'How is it that the fig tree withered instantly?'	20 Al verlo los discípulos se maravillaron y decían: «¿Cómo al momento quedó seca la higuera?»
21 Jesus answered, 'In truth I tel you, if you have faith and do not doubt at all, not only wil you do what Ihave done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, "Be pul ed up and thrown into the sea," it will be done.	21 Jesús les respondió: «Yo os aseguro: si tenéis fe y no vaciláis, no sólo haréis lo de la higuera, sino que si aun decís a este monte: “Quítate y arrójate al mar”, así se hará.
22 And if you have faith, everything you ask for in prayer, you wil receive.'	22 Y todo cuanto pidáis con fe en la oración, lo recibiréis».
23 He had gone into the Temple and was teaching, when the chief priests and the elders of the peoplecame to him and said, 'What authority have you for acting like this? And who gave you this authority?'	23 Llegado al Templo, mientras enseñaba se le acercaron los sumos sacerdotes y los ancianos del pueblo diciendo: «¿Con qué autoridad haces esto? ¿Y quién te ha dado tal autoridad?»
24 In reply Jesus said to them, 'And I will ask you a question, just one; if you tell me the answer to it,then I wil tel you my authority for acting like this.	24 Jesús les respondió: «También yo os voy a preguntar una cosa; si me contestáis a ella, yo os diré a mi vez con qué autoridad hago esto.
25 John's baptism: what was its origin, heavenly or human?' And they argued this way amongthemselves, 'If we say heavenly, he wil retort to us, "Then why did you refuse to believe him?";	25 El bautismo de Juan, ¿de dónde era?, ¿del cielo o de los hombres?» Ellos discurrían entre sí: «Si decimos: “Del cielo”, nos dirá: “Entonces ¿por qué no le creísteis?”
26 but if we say human, we have the people to fear, for they al hold that John was a prophet.'	26 Y si decimos: “De los hombres”, tenemos miedo a la gente, pues todos tienen a Juan por profeta».
27 So their reply to Jesus was, 'We do not know.' And he retorted to them, 'Nor wil I tel you my authorityfor acting like this.'	27 Respondieron, pues, a Jesús: «No sabemos». Y él les replicó asimismo: «Tampoco yo os digo con qué autoridad hago esto».
28 'What is your opinion? A man had two sons. He went and said to the first, "My boy, go and work inthe vineyard today."	28 «Pero ¿qué os parece? Un hombre tenía dos hijos. Llegándose al primero, le dijo: “Hijo, vete hoy a trabajar en la viña.”
29 He answered, "I will not go," but afterwards thought better of it and went.	29 Y él respondió: “No quiero”, pero después se arrepintió y fue.
30 The man then went and said the same thing to the second who answered, "Certainly, sir," but did notgo.	30 Llegándose al segundo, le dijo lo mismo. Y él respondió: “Voy, Señor”, y no fue.
31 Which of the two did the father's wil ?' They said, 'The first.' Jesus said to them, 'In truth I tel you, taxcol ectors and prostitutes are making their way into the kingdom of God before you.	31 ¿Cuál de los dos hizo la voluntad del padre?» - «El primero» - le dicen. Díceles Jesús: «En verdad os digo que los publicanos y las rameras llegan antes que vosotros al Reino de Dios.
32 For John came to you, showing the way of uprightness, but you did not believe him, and yet the taxcol ectors and prostitutes did. Even after seeing that, you refused to think better of it and believe in him.	32 Porque vino Juan a vosotros por camino de justicia, y no creísteis en él, mientras que los publicanos y las rameras creyeron en él. Y vosotros, ni viéndolo, os arrepentisteis después, para creer en él.
33 'Listen to another parable. There was a man, a landowner, who planted a vineyard; he fenced itround, dug a winepress in it and built a tower; then he leased it to tenants and went abroad.	33 «Escuchad otra parábola. Era un propietario que plantó una viña, la rodeó de una cerca, cavó en ella un lagar y edificó una torre; la arrendó a unos labradores y se ausentó.
34 When vintage time drew near he sent his servants to the tenants to col ect his produce.	34 Cuando llegó el tiempo de los frutos, envió sus siervos a los labradores para recibir sus frutos.
35 But the tenants seized his servants, thrashed one, kil ed another and stoned a third.	35 Pero los labradores agarraron a los siervos, y a uno le golpearon, a otro le mataron, a otro le apedrearon.
36 Next he sent some more servants, this time a larger number, and they dealt with them in the sameway.	36 De nuevo envió otros siervos en mayor número que los primeros; pero los trataron de la misma manera.
37 Final y he sent his son to them thinking, "They will respect my son."	37 Finalmente les envió a su hijo, diciendo: “A mi hijo le respetarán.”
38 But when the tenants saw the son, they said to each other, "This is the heir. Come on, let us kil himand take over his inheritance."	38 Pero los labradores, al ver al hijo, se dijeron entre sí: “Este es el heredero. Vamos, matémosle y quedémonos con su herencia.”
39 So they seized him and threw him out of the vineyard and kil ed him.	39 Y agarrándole, le echaron fuera de la viña y le mataron.
40 Now when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?'	40 Cuando venga, pues, el dueño de la viña, ¿qué hará con aquellos labradores?»
41 They answered, 'He will bring those wretches to a wretched end and lease the vineyard to othertenants who wil deliver the produce to him at the proper time.'	41 Dícenle: «A esos miserables les dará una muerte miserable arrendará la viña a otros labradores, que le paguen los frutos a su tiempo».
42 Jesus said to them, 'Have you never read in the scriptures: The stone which the builders rejected hasbecome the cornerstone; this is the Lord's doing and we marvel at it?	42 Y Jesús les dice: «¿No habéis leído nunca en las Escrituras: La piedra que los constructores desecharon, en piedra angular se ha convertido; fue el Señor quien hizo esto y es maravilloso a nuestros ojos?
43 'I tel you, then, that the kingdom of God wil be taken from you and given to a people who willproduce its fruit.'	43 Por eso os digo: Se os quitará el Reino de Dios para dárselo a un pueblo que rinda sus frutos».

45 When they heard his parables, the chief priests and the scribes realised he was speaking aboutthem,	45 Los sumos sacerdotes y los fariseos, al oír sus parábolas, comprendieron que estaba refiriéndose a ellos.
46 but though they would have liked to arrest him they were afraid of the crowds, who looked on him asa prophet.	46 Y trataban de detenerle, pero tuvieron miedo a la gente porque le tenían por profeta.
