NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 The Israelites, the whole community, arrived in the first month at the desert of Zin. The people settledat Kadesh. There Miriam died and was buried.	1 En el primer mes, toda la comunidad de los israelitas llegó al desierto de Sin, y el pueblo se estableció en Cades. Allí murió y fue enterrada Miriam.
2 There was no water for the community, so they banded together against Moses and Aaron.	2 Como la comunidad no tenía agua, se produjo un amotinamiento contra Moisés y Aarón.
3 The people laid the blame on Moses. 'We would rather have died', they said, 'as our brothers diedbefore Yahweh!	3 El pueblo promovió una querella contra Moisés diciendo: «¡Ojalá hubiéramos muerto cuando murieron nuestros hermanos delante del Señor!
4 Why have you brought Yahweh's community into this desert, for us and our livestock to die here?	4 ¿Por qué trajeron a este desierto a la asamblea del Señor, para que muriéramos aquí, nosotros y nuestro ganado?
5 Why did you lead us out of Egypt, only to bring us to this wretched place? It is a place unfit forsowing, it has no figs, no vines, no pomegranates, and there is not even water to drink!'	5 ¿Por qué nos hicieron salir de Egipto, para traernos a este lugar miserable, donde no hay sembrados, ni higueras, ni viñas, ni granados, y donde ni siquiera hay agua para beber?
6 Leaving the assembly, Moses and Aaron went to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting. They threwthemselves on their faces, and the glory of Yahweh appeared to them.	6 Moisés y Aarón, apartándose de la asamblea, fueron a la entrada de la Carpa del Encuentro y cayeron con el rostro en tierra. Entonces se les apareció la gloria del Señor,
7 Yahweh then spoke to Moses and said,	7 y el Señor dijo a Moisés:
8 'Take the branch and call the community together, you and your brother Aaron. Then, in full view ofthem, order this rock to release its water. You wil release water from the rock for them and provide drink for thecommunity and their livestock.'	8 «Toma el bastón y convoca a la comunidad, junto con tu hermano Aarón. Después, a la vista de todos, manden a la roca que dé sus aguas. Así harás para ellos agua de la roca y darás de beber a la comunidad y a su ganado».
9 Moses took up the branch from before Yahweh, as he had directed him.	9 Moisés tomó el bastón que estaba delante del Señor, como él se lo había mandado.
10 Moses and Aaron then cal ed the assembly together in front of the rock. He then said to them,'Listen now, you rebels. Shall we make water gush from this rock for you?'	10 Luego Moisés y Aarón reunieron a la asamblea frente a la roca, y Moisés lees dijo: «¡Escuchen, rebeldes! ¿Podemos hacer que brote agua de esta roca para ustedes?».
11 Moses then raised his hand and struck the rock twice with the branch; water gushed out inabundance, and the community and their livestock drank.	11 Y alzando su mano, golpeó la roca dos veces con el bastón. El agua brotó abundantemente, y bebieron la comunidad y el ganado.
12 Yahweh then said to Moses and Aaron, 'Because you did not believe that I could assert my holinessbefore the Israelites' eyes, you wil not lead this assembly into the country which I am giving them.'	12 Pero el Señor dijo a Moisés y a Aarón: «Por no haber confiado lo bastante en mí para que yo manifestara mi santidad ante los israelitas, les aseguro que no llevarán a este pueblo hasta la tierra que les he dado».
13 These were the Waters of Meribah, where the Israelites laid the blame on Yahweh and where, bytheir means, he asserted his holiness.	13 Estas son las aguas de Meribá –que significa «Querella»– donde los israelitas promovieron una querella contra el Señor y con las que él manifestó contra el Señor y con las que él manifestó su santidad.
14 Moses sent messengers from Kadesh: 'To the king of Edom. Your brother Israel says this: You areaware of the great hardships we have encountered.	14 Moisés envió desde Cades unos mensajeros al rey de Edom, con esta propuesta: «Así habla tu hermano Israel: «Tú conoces todas las dificultades con que hemos tropezado.
15 Our ancestors went down to Egypt and there we stayed for a long time. But the Egyptians treated usbadly, as they had our ancestors.	15 Nuestros antepasados bajaron a Egipto, y allí estuvimos durante mucho tiempo. Los egipcios nos trataron duramente, a nosotros y a nuestros antepasados.
16 When we appealed to Yahweh, he heard our cry and, sending an angel, brought us out of Egypt,and here we are, now, at Kadesh, a town on the borders of your territory.	16 Pero pedimos auxilio al Señor, y él escuchó nuestra voz y nos envió un Angel que nos sacó de Egipto. Ahora estamos en Cades, la población que está al borde de tu territorio.
17 We ask permission to pass through your country. We shall not go through the fields or vineyards; weshall not drink the water from the wel s; we shal keep to the king's highway without turning to right or left until wehave passed through your territory.'	17 Déjanos pasar por tu país. No cruzaremos por los campos ni por los viñedos, ni beberemos agua de los pozos. Iremos solamente por el camino principal, sin desviarnos ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda, hasta que hayamos atravesado tu territorio».
18 To which, Edom replied, 'You wil not pass through my country; if you do, I shal oppose you by forceof arms.'	18 Pero Edom les respondió: «Ustedes no pasarán por aquí. Si lo hacen, saldré contra ustedes, espada en mano».
19 To which the Israelites replied, 'We shal keep to the high road; if I and my flocks drink any of yourwater, I am wil ing to pay for it. Al I am asking is to pass through on foot.'	19 Los israelitas les respondieron: «Iremos por la ruta, y si nosotros o nuestro ganado llegamos a beber agua, te la pagaremos. Sólo queremos pasar a pie: es una cosa insignificante».
20 Edom replied: 'You shal not pass,' and Edom opposed them in great numbers and great force.	20 Pero ellos respondieron: «No pasarán». Y Edom salió a atacarlos con una tropa numerosa y bien armada.
21 At Edom's refusal to grant Israel passage through his territory, Israel turned away.	21 Y Edom impidió que los israelitas pasaran por su territorio, ellos dieron un rodeo.
22 They set out from Kadesh, and the Israelites, the whole community, came to Mount Hor.	22 Toda la comunidad partió de Cades y los israelitas llegaron al monte Hor.
23 Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron at Mount Hor, on the frontier of Edom, and said,	23 En el monte Hor, que está en la frontera de Edom el Señor dijo a Moisés y a Aarón:
24 'Aaron is to be gathered to his people; he will not enter the country which I have given to theIsraelites, since you both disobeyed my order at the Waters of Meribah.	24 «Que Aarón vaya a reunirse con los suyos, porque él no entrará en la tierra que yo di a los israelitas, ya que ustedes se rebelaron contra mis órdenes junto a las aguas de Meribá.
25 Take Aaron and his son Eleazar and bring them up Mount Hor.	25 Toma a Aarón y a su hijo Eleazar, y llévalos al monte Hor.
26 Then take Aaron's robes off him and dress his son Eleazar in them. Aaron wil then be gathered tohis people; that is where he will die.'	26 Allí despojarás a Aarón de sus vestiduras y se las pondrás a su hijo Eleazar. Entonces Aarón se reunirá con los suyos, porque allí morirá».
27 Moses did as Yahweh ordered. With the whole community watching, they went up Mount Hor.	27 Moisés hizo lo que el Señor le había mandado: él, Aarón y su hijo Eleazar subieron al monte Hor a la vista de toda la comunidad.
28 Moses took Aaron's robes off him and dressed his son Eleazar in them, and there Aaron died, onthe mountain-top. Moses and Eleazar then came back down the mountain.	28 Luego Moisés quitó las vestiduras a Aarón y se las puso a su hijo Eleazar. Aarón murió en la cima de la montaña. Cuando Moisés y Eleazar bajaron de la montaña,
29 The whole community saw that Aaron had died, and for thirty days the whole House of Israelmourned for Aaron.	29 toda la comunidad supo que Aarón había muerto. Y todo Israel lloró a Aarón durante treinta días.
