NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 The Israelites, the whole community, arrived in the first month at the desert of Zin. The people settledat Kadesh. There Miriam died and was buried.	1 Los israelitas, toda la comunidad, llegaron al desierto de Sin el mes primero, y se quedó todo el pueblo en Cadés. Allí murió María y allí la enterraron.
2 There was no water for the community, so they banded together against Moses and Aaron.	2 No había agua para la comunidad, por lo que se amotinaron contra Moisés y contra Aarón.
3 The people laid the blame on Moses. 'We would rather have died', they said, 'as our brothers diedbefore Yahweh!	3 El pueblo protestó contra Moisés, diciéndole: «Ojalá hubiéramos perecido igual que perecieron nuestros hermanos delante de Yahveh.
4 Why have you brought Yahweh's community into this desert, for us and our livestock to die here?	4 ¿Por qué habéis traído la asamblea de Yahveh a este desierto, para que muramos en él nosotros y nuestros ganados?
5 Why did you lead us out of Egypt, only to bring us to this wretched place? It is a place unfit forsowing, it has no figs, no vines, no pomegranates, and there is not even water to drink!'	5 ¿Por qué nos habéis subido de Egipto, para traernos a este lugar pésimo: un lugar donde no hay sembrado, ni higuera, ni viña, ni ganado, y donde no hay ni agua para beber?»
6 Leaving the assembly, Moses and Aaron went to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting. They threwthemselves on their faces, and the glory of Yahweh appeared to them.	6 Moisés y Aarón dejaron la asamblea, se fueron a la entrada de la Tienda del Encuentro, y cayeron rostro en tierra. Y se les apareció la gloria de Yahveh.
7 Yahweh then spoke to Moses and said,	7 Yahveh habló con Moisés y le dijo:
8 'Take the branch and call the community together, you and your brother Aaron. Then, in full view ofthem, order this rock to release its water. You wil release water from the rock for them and provide drink for thecommunity and their livestock.'	8 «Toma la vara y reúne a la comunidad, tú con tu hermano Aarón. Hablad luego a la peña en presencia de ellos, y ella dará sus aguas. Harás brotar para ellos agua de la peña, y darás de beber a la comunidad y a sus ganados.»
9 Moses took up the branch from before Yahweh, as he had directed him.	9 Tomó Moisés la vara de la presencia de Yahveh como se lo había mandado.
10 Moses and Aaron then cal ed the assembly together in front of the rock. He then said to them,'Listen now, you rebels. Shall we make water gush from this rock for you?'	10 Convocaron Moisés y Aarón la asamblea ante la peña y él les dijo: «Escuchadme, rebeldes. ¿Haremos brotar de esta peña agua para vosotros?»
11 Moses then raised his hand and struck the rock twice with the branch; water gushed out inabundance, and the community and their livestock drank.	11 Y Moisés alzó la mano y golpeó la peña con su vara dos veces. El agua brotó en abundancia, y bebió la comunidad y su ganado.
12 Yahweh then said to Moses and Aaron, 'Because you did not believe that I could assert my holinessbefore the Israelites' eyes, you wil not lead this assembly into the country which I am giving them.'	12 Dijo Yahveh a Moisés y Aarón: «Por no haber confiado en mí, honrándome ante los israelitas, os aseguro que no guiaréis a esta asamblea hasta la tierra que les he dado.»
13 These were the Waters of Meribah, where the Israelites laid the blame on Yahweh and where, bytheir means, he asserted his holiness.	13 Estas son las aguas de Meribá, donde protestaron los israelitas contra Yahveh, y con las que él manifestó su santidad.
14 Moses sent messengers from Kadesh: 'To the king of Edom. Your brother Israel says this: You areaware of the great hardships we have encountered.	14 Envió Moisés mensajeros desde Cadés: «Al rey de Edom. Así dice tu hermano Israel: Ya sabes por qué gran calamidad hemos pasado.
15 Our ancestors went down to Egypt and there we stayed for a long time. But the Egyptians treated usbadly, as they had our ancestors.	15 Nuestros padres bajaron a Egipto y nos quedamos en Egipto mucho tiempo. Pero los egipcios nos trataron mal, a nosotros igual que a nuestros padres.
16 When we appealed to Yahweh, he heard our cry and, sending an angel, brought us out of Egypt,and here we are, now, at Kadesh, a town on the borders of your territory.	16 Clamamos entonces a Yahveh, y escuchó nuestra voz: envió un ángel, y nos sacó de Egipto. Ahora estamos en Cadés, ciudad fronteriza de tu territorio.
17 We ask permission to pass through your country. We shall not go through the fields or vineyards; weshall not drink the water from the wel s; we shal keep to the king's highway without turning to right or left until wehave passed through your territory.'	17 Déjanos, por favor, pasar por tu tierra. No cruzaremos por campo ni por viñedo, ni beberemos agua de pozo. Seguiremos el camino real, sin torcer ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda hasta que crucemos tus fronteras.»
18 To which, Edom replied, 'You wil not pass through my country; if you do, I shal oppose you by forceof arms.'	18 Edom le respondió: «No pasarás por mí. Si lo haces, saldré espada en mano a tu encuentro.»
19 To which the Israelites replied, 'We shal keep to the high road; if I and my flocks drink any of yourwater, I am wil ing to pay for it. Al I am asking is to pass through on foot.'	19 Le respondieron los israelitas: «Seguiremos por la calzada, y si bebemos agua tuya, yo y mis rebaños, pagaremos su precio. Se trata de pasar a pie: no tiene importancia».
20 Edom replied: 'You shal not pass,' and Edom opposed them in great numbers and great force.	20 Respondió él: «No pasarás.» Y salió Edom a su encuentro con mucha gente y mano poderosa.
21 At Edom's refusal to grant Israel passage through his territory, Israel turned away.	21 Como Edom negó el paso a Israel por su territorio, Israel dio un rodeo.
22 They set out from Kadesh, and the Israelites, the whole community, came to Mount Hor.	22 Partieron de Cadés los israelitas, toda la comunidad, y llegaron a Hor de la Montaña.
23 Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron at Mount Hor, on the frontier of Edom, and said,	23 Y dijo Yahveh a Moisés y Aarón en Hor de la Montaña, en la frontera del país de Edom:
24 'Aaron is to be gathered to his people; he will not enter the country which I have given to theIsraelites, since you both disobeyed my order at the Waters of Meribah.	24 «Que se reúna Aarón con los suyos, porque no debe entrar en la tierra que he dado a los israelitas, por haberos rebelado contra mi voz en las aguas de Meribá.
25 Take Aaron and his son Eleazar and bring them up Mount Hor.	25 Toma a Aarón y a su hijo Eleazar y súbelos a la montaña de Hor.
26 Then take Aaron's robes off him and dress his son Eleazar in them. Aaron wil then be gathered tohis people; that is where he will die.'	26 Le quitarás a Aarón sus vestiduras y se las pondrás a su hijo Eleazar. Entonces Aarón se reunirá con los suyos: allí morirá.»
27 Moses did as Yahweh ordered. With the whole community watching, they went up Mount Hor.	27 Moisés hizo como le había mandado Yahveh. Subieron a Hor de la Montaña a la vista de toda la comunidad.
28 Moses took Aaron's robes off him and dressed his son Eleazar in them, and there Aaron died, onthe mountain-top. Moses and Eleazar then came back down the mountain.	28 Quitó Moisés a Aarón sus vestiduras y se las puso a su hijo Eleazar. Y murió allí Aarón, en la cumbre del monte. Moisés y Eleazar bajaron de la montaña.
29 The whole community saw that Aaron had died, and for thirty days the whole House of Israelmourned for Aaron.	29 Toda la comunidad se dio cuenta de que había fallecido Aarón, y lloró a Aarón toda la casa de Israel durante treinta días.
