Daniel 1

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched onJerusalem and besieged it.	1 - Nell'anno terzo del regno di Joachim, re di Giuda, Nabucodonosor, re di Babilonia venne contro Gerusalemme e l'assediò.
2 The Lord let Jehoiakim king of Judah fal into his power, as well as some of the vessels belonging to theTemple of God. These he took away to Shinar, putting the vessels into the treasury of his own gods.	2 E il Signore gli diede nelle mani Joachim, re di Giuda e una parte del vasellame della casa di Dio; ed egli lo fece trasportare nella terra di Sennaar, nella casa del suo dio, e ripose il vasellame nelle stanze del tesoro del suo dio.
3 From the Israelites, the king ordered Ashpenaz, his chief eunuch, to bring a certain number of boys ofroyal or noble descent;	3 E il re disse ad Asfenez, sopraintendente degli eunuchi, che gli scegliesse dai figli d'Israele, dalle stirpi reali e principesche,
4 they had to be without any physical defect, of good appearance, versed in every branch of wisdom,wel -informed, discerning, suitable for service at the royal court. Ashpenaz was to teach them to speak and writethe language of the Chaldaeans.	4 alcuni giovanetti senza difetto alcuno, di bell'aspetto, aperti a ogni sapienza, capaci di scienza, e disposti alle discipline, e che potessero stare nel palazzo del re ed essere istruiti nelle lettere e nella lingua dei Caldei.
5 The king assigned them a daily allowance of food and wine from the royal table. They were to receive an education lasting for three years, after which they would enter the royal service.	5 E il re stabilì loro un assegno quotidiano sulla sua mensa e sul vino che egli stesso beveva, affinchè così ben allevati per tre anni, stessero poi alla presenza del re.
6 Among them were the Judaeans Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah.	6 Fra costoro furono dei figli di Giuda: Daniele, Anania, Misaele e Azaria.
7 The chief eunuch gave them other names, cal ing Daniel Belteshazzar, Hananiah Shadrach, MishaelMeshach, and Azariah Abed-Nego.	7 E il sopraintendente degli eunuchi impose nome Baltassar a Daniele, Sidrac ad Anania, a Misaele Misac e ad Azaria Abdenago.
8 Daniel, who was determined not to incur pol ution by food and wine from the royal table, begged thechief eunuch to spare him this defilement.	8 Or Daniele fece proposito in cuor suo di non contaminarsi nè coi cibi del re, nè col vino che era sua bevanda e fece istanza al sopraintendente degli eunuchi per non contaminarsi.
9 God al owed Daniel to receive faithful love and sympathy from the chief eunuch.	9 Il Signore dispose che Daniele trovasse grazia e favore nel cospetto del sopraintendente degli eunuchi.
10 But the eunuch warned Daniel, 'I am afraid of my lord the king: he has assigned you food and drink,and if he sees you looking thinner in the face than the other boys of your age, my head wil be in danger with theking because of you.'	10 E il sopraintendente degli eunuchi disse a Daniele: «Ma io temo il mio signore, il re, per l'assegno che vi ha fatto del cibo e della bevanda: se egli si accorgerà dei vostri volti, fatti più macilenti degli altri giovani della stessa età, voi presterete al re una condanna pel mio capo».
11 To the guard assigned to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah by the chief eunuch, Daniel thensaid,	11 E Daniele disse a Malasar, a cui il principe degli eunuchi aveva assegnata la cura di Daniele, Anania, Misaele e Azaria:
12 'Please al ow your servants a ten days' trial, during which we are given only vegetables to eat andwater to drink.	12 «Fa' la prova, ti prego, su di noi, tuoi servi, per dieci giorni; ci diano a mangiare legumi e a bere acqua;
13 You can then compare our looks with those of the boys who eat the king's food; go by what you see,and treat your servants accordingly.'	13 poi osserva i nostri volti e i volti dei giovani che si cibano delle vivande del re, e secondo quello, che avrai veduto, ti regolerai coi tuoi servi sul da fare».
14 The man agreed to do what they asked and put them on ten days' trial.	14 Costui, ascoltato un tal ragionamento, li mise alla prova per dieci giorni.
15 When the ten days were over, they looked better and fatter than any of the boys who had eaten theiral owance from the royal table;	15 Ma dopo i dieci giorni, le loro facce comparvero rimbellite e ingrassate più assai di tutti i giovani che si nutrivano delle vivande del re.
16 so the guard withdrew their al owance of food and the wine they were to drink, and gave themvegetables.	16 Malasar quindi levava le vivande e il vino somministrato, e dava loro legumi.
17 To these four boys God gave knowledge and skil in every aspect of literature and learning; Danielalso had the gift of interpreting every kind of vision and dream.	17 E Iddio conferì a questi giovani scienza e cognizione in ogni specie di libro e di sapienza: e a Daniele l'intelligenza di qualsiasi visione e sogno.
18 When the time stipulated by the king for the boys to be presented to him came round, the chiefeunuch presented them to Nebuchadnezzar.	18 Compiutisi dunque i giorni, dopo i quali aveva detto il re che venissero introdotti, il sopraintendente degli eunuchi li introdusse nella presenza di Nabucodonosor.
19 The king conversed with them, and among all the boys found none to equal Daniel, Hananiah, Mishaeland Azariah. So they became members of the king's court,	19 Essendosi il re intrattenuto con loro non si trovarono uguali tra tutti a Daniele, Anania, Misaele e Azaria, e si fermarono nel cospetto del re.
20 and on whatever point of wisdom or understanding he might question them, he found them ten timesbetter than all the magicians and soothsayers in his entire kingdom. Daniel remained there until the first year ofKing Cyrus.	20 E qualunque quesito che il re propose di sapienza e intelligenza, dimostrò che essi erano superiori dieci volte a tutti gl'indovini e ai magi che erano in tutto il suo regno.
	21 Così Daniele rimase fino al primo anno di Ciro.
