1 In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched onJerusalem and besieged it.	1 L'anno terzo del regno di Joachim re di Giuda, venne Nabuchodonosor re di Babilonia sopra Gerusalemme, e la assediò;
2 The Lord let Jehoiakim king of Judah fal into his power, as well as some of the vessels belonging to theTemple of God. These he took away to Shinar, putting the vessels into the treasury of his own gods.	2 E il Signore diede nelle sue mani di Joachim re di Giuda, e una parte de' vasi della casa di Dio, e li trasportò nella terra di Sennaar nella casa del suo dio, e i vasi ripose nella casa del tesoro del suo dio.
3 From the Israelites, the king ordered Ashpenaz, his chief eunuch, to bring a certain number of boys ofroyal or noble descent;	3 E il re disse ad Asphenez capo degli eunuchi, che gli conducesse davanti alcuni de' figliuoli d'Israele, e di stirpe dei regi, e dei magnati,
4 they had to be without any physical defect, of good appearance, versed in every branch of wisdom,wel -informed, discerning, suitable for service at the royal court. Ashpenaz was to teach them to speak and writethe language of the Chaldaeans.	4 Giovinetti senza difetto, di bell'aspetto, e istruiti in ogni maniera di saggezza, ornati di scienza, e ben educati, e che fosser degni di stare nel palazzo del re, affinchè insegnasse loro le lettere, e la lingua de' Caldei.
5 The king assigned them a daily allowance of food and wine from the royal table. They were to receive an education lasting for three years, after which they would enter the royal service.	5 E il re stabilì, che fosse loro dato ogni dì da mangiare di quel, ch'egli stesso mangiava, e del vino, ch'egli stesso bevea, affinchè dopo tre anni di questa scuola fosser abilitati a stare davanti al re.
6 Among them were the Judaeans Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah.	6 Tra questi adunque vi furono de' figliuoli di Giuda, Daniele, Anania, Misael, e Azaria.
7 The chief eunuch gave them other names, cal ing Daniel Belteshazzar, Hananiah Shadrach, MishaelMeshach, and Azariah Abed-Nego.	7 E il capo degli eunuchi pose loro i nomi, a Daniele, di Balthasar, ad Anania, di Sidrac, a Misael, di Misach, e ad Azaria, di Abdenago.
8 Daniel, who was determined not to incur pol ution by food and wine from the royal table, begged thechief eunuch to spare him this defilement.	8 Or Daniele determinò in cuor suo di non volersi contaminare col cibarsi di quello, che il re mangiava, né col bere del vino, che quegli bevea, e pregò il capo degli eunuchi, che gli permettesse di non contaminarsi.
9 God al owed Daniel to receive faithful love and sympathy from the chief eunuch.	9 Or Dio fé si, che Daniele trovò grazia, e misericordia presso il capo degli eunuchi.
10 But the eunuch warned Daniel, 'I am afraid of my lord the king: he has assigned you food and drink,and if he sees you looking thinner in the face than the other boys of your age, my head wil be in danger with theking because of you.'	10 E disse il principe degli eunuchi a Daniele: Io ho paura del re mio signore, il quale ha assegnato a voi cibo, e bevanda, e s'ei viene a vedere i vostri volti più macilenti, che que' degli altri giovinetti vostri coetanei, voi mi farete reo di morte dinanzi al re.
11 To the guard assigned to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah by the chief eunuch, Daniel thensaid,	11 E Daniele disse a Malasar, a cui il capo degli eunuchi avea commessa la cura di Daniele, di Anania, di Misaele, e di Azaria:
12 'Please al ow your servants a ten days' trial, during which we are given only vegetables to eat andwater to drink.	12 Di grazia fa questa prova sopra di noi tuoi servi per dieci giorni, e ci sia dato da mangiare de' legumi, e da bere dell'acqua:
13 You can then compare our looks with those of the boys who eat the king's food; go by what you see,and treat your servants accordingly.'	13 E osserva i nostri volti, e i volti de' giovinetti, che si cibano delle vivande del re, e secondo quel, che vedrai, ti regolerai co' tuoi servi.
14 The man agreed to do what they asked and put them on ten days' trial.	14 Quegli, ciò udito, fece sopra di essi la prova per dieci giorni.
15 When the ten days were over, they looked better and fatter than any of the boys who had eaten theiral owance from the royal table;	15 E dopo i dieci giorni le loro facce comparvero di miglior colore, e più piene, che quelle di tutti i giovinetti, che si nutrivano co' cibi del re.
16 so the guard withdrew their al owance of food and the wine they were to drink, and gave themvegetables.	16 E Malasar prendeva i cibi, e il vino, ch'ei dovean bere, e dava lor de' legumi.
17 To these four boys God gave knowledge and skil in every aspect of literature and learning; Danielalso had the gift of interpreting every kind of vision and dream.	17 E diede Dio a questi giovinetti scienza, e perizia di tutti i libri, e di ogni sapienza: a Daniele poi l'intelligenza ai tutte le visioni, e de' sogni.
18 When the time stipulated by the king for the boys to be presented to him came round, the chiefeunuch presented them to Nebuchadnezzar.	18 Passato adunque il tempo, dopo del quale aveva ordinato il re, che gli fosser condotti davanti, il capo degli eunuchi li presentò a Nabuchodonosor.
19 The king conversed with them, and among all the boys found none to equal Daniel, Hananiah, Mishaeland Azariah. So they became members of the king's court,	19 E avendo il re discorso con essi, non si trovò tra tutti chi uguagliasse Daniele, Anania, Misael, e Azaria.
20 and on whatever point of wisdom or understanding he might question them, he found them ten timesbetter than all the magicians and soothsayers in his entire kingdom. Daniel remained there until the first year ofKing Cyrus.	20 E in qualunque parte d'intelligenza, e di sapienza, che il re li disaminasse, trovò, che ei superavano dieci volte tutti gl'indovini, e i maghi, che eran in tutto il suo regno.
	21 E Daniele stette a' servigi del re fino all'anno primo del re Ciro.
