NEW JERUSALEMNOVA VULGATA
He brought me back to the entrance of the Temple, where a stream flowed eastwards from under theTemple threshold, for the Temple faced east. The water flowed from under the right side of the Temple, south ofthe altar.1 Et convertit me ad portam domus, et ecce aquae egre diebantur subterlimen domus ad orientem; facies enim domus respiciebat ad orientem, aquae autemdescendebant a latere templi dextro a meridie altaris.
He took me out by the north gate and led me right round outside as far as the outer east gate where the water flowed out on the right-hand side.2 Et eduxit me per viamportae aquilonis et convertit me ad viam foras ad portam exteriorem, quaerespiciebat ad orientem; et ecce aquae exeuntes a latere dextro.
The man went off to the east holding his measuring line and measured off a thousand cubits; he thenmade me wade across the stream; the water reached my ankles.3 Cumegrederetur vir ad orientem, qui habebat funiculum in manu sua, mensus est millecubitos et traduxit me per aquam usque ad talos.
He measured off another thousand and made me wade across the stream again; the water reachedmy knees. He measured off another thousand and made me wade across the stream again; the water reachedmy waist.4 Rursumque mensus est mille ettraduxit me per aquam usque ad genua.
He measured off another thousand; it was now a river which I could not cross; the stream had swol enand was now deep water, a river impossible to cross.5 Et mensus est mille et traduxit me peraquam usque ad renes. Et mensus est mille; torrens, quem non potui pertransire,quoniam intumuerant aquae, aquae ad natandum; torrens, qui non poterattransvadari.
He then said, 'Do you see, son of man?' He then took me and brought me back to the bank on theriver.6 Et dixit ad me: “ Certe vidisti, fili hominis ”; et duxit meet convertit ad ripam torrentis.
Now, when I reached it, I saw an enormous number of trees on each bank of the river.7 Cumque me convertissem, ecce in ripatorrentis ligna multa nimis ex utraque parte;
He said, 'This water flows east down to the Arabah and to the sea; and flowing into the sea it makesits waters wholesome.8 et ait ad me: “ Aquae istae,quae egrediuntur ad regionem orientalem et descendunt ad Arabam, intrabunt mare,aquas salsas, et sanabuntur aquae:
Wherever the river flows, all living creatures teeming in it wil live. Fish wil be very plentiful, forwherever the water goes it brings health, and life teems wherever the river flows.9 et omnis anima vivens, quae movetur,quocumque venerit torrens, vivet, et erunt pisces multi satis, postquam venerintilluc aquae istae, et sanabuntur et vivent omnia, ad quae venerit torrens.
There will be fishermen on its banks. Fishing nets will be spread from En-Gedi to En-Eglaim. Thespecies of fish wil be the same as the fish of the Great Sea.10 Etstabunt super mare piscatores; ab Engaddi usque ad Engallim siccatio sagenarumerit; plurimae species erunt piscium eius, sicut pisces maris Magni,multitudinis nimiae.
The marshes and lagoons, however, wil not become wholesome, but wil remain salt.11 Palustria autem eius et stagna non sanabuntur, quia insalinas dabuntur.
Along the river, on either bank, will grow every kind of fruit tree with leaves that never wither and fruitthat never fails; they wil bear new fruit every month, because this water comes from the sanctuary. And theirfruit wil be good to eat and the leaves medicinal.'12 Et super torrentem orietur in ripis eius ex utraque parteomne lignum pomiferum; non defluet folium ex eo, et non deficiet fructus eius:per singulos menses afferet primitiva, quia aquae eius de sanctuarioegredientur, et erunt fructus eius in cibum, et folia eius ad medicinam.
'The Lord Yahweh says this, "This wil be the territory which you must distribute among the twelvetribes of Israel, with two portions for Joseph.13 Haec dicit Dominus Deus: Hic est terminus, in quo possidebitis terram induodecim tribubus Israel, quia Ioseph duplicem funiculum habet;
You wil each have a fair share of it, since I swore to your fathers that I would give it to them, and thiscountry now falls to you as your heritage.14 possidebitisautem eam, singuli aeque ut frater suus, super quam levavi manum meam, ut darempatribus vestris; et cadet terra haec vobis in possessionem.
These wil be the frontiers of the country. On the north, from the Great Sea, the road from Hethlon tothe Pass of Hamath, Zedad,15 Hic est autemterminus terrae: ad plagam septentrionalem a mari Magno via Hethalon adintroitum Emath,
Berothah, Sibraim lying between the territories of Damascus and Hamath, to Hazer-ha-Tikon on theborders of Hauran;16 Sedada, Berotha, Sabarim, quae est inter terminum Damasci etconfinium Emath, usque ad Asarenon, quae est iuxta terminum Auran;
the frontier wil extend from the sea to Hazer-Enon, with the territory of Damascus and the territory ofHamath to the north; that wil be the northern frontier.17 erit ergoterminus a mari usque ad Asarenon, cum fines Damasci et fines Emath sint inaquilone; haec est plaga septentrionalis.
On the east, the Jordan wil serve as frontier between Hauran and Damascus, between Gilead andIsrael, down to the Eastern Sea as far as Tamar; that wil be the eastern frontier.18 Porro plaga orientalis de locointer Auran et inter Damascum et in medio inter Galaad et terram Israel,Iordanis disterminans usque ad mare orientale, usque Thamar; haec est plagaorientalis.
On the south, from Tamar southward to the Waters of Meribah in Kadesh, to the Wadi and the GreatSea; that wil be the southern frontier.19 Plaga autem australis meridiana a Thamar usque ad aquasMeribathcades et torrentem usque ad mare Magnum; haec est plaga ad meridiemaustralis.
And to the west, the Great Sea wil serve as frontier up to the point opposite the Pass of Hamath; thatwil be the western frontier.20 Et plaga maris, mare Magnum a confinio per directum, donec veniasEmath; haec est plaga maris.
You must distribute this country among yourselves, among the tribes of Israel.21 Et dividetis terram istam vobis per tribusIsrael
You must distribute it as a heritage for yourselves and the aliens settled among you who havefathered children among you, since you must treat them as citizens of Israel. They must draw lots for theirheritage with you, among the tribes of Israel.22 et mittetis eam in hereditatem, vobis et advenis, qui accesserint advos, qui genuerint filios in medio vestrum, et erunt vobis sicut indigenae interfilios Israel: vobiscum divident possessionem in medio tribuum Israel;
You wil give the alien his heritage in the tribe where he has settled -- declares the Lord Yahweh." '23 intribu autem quacumque fuerit advena, ibi dabitis possessionem illi, ait DominusDeus.
