NEW JERUSALEMVULGATA
' "When you draw lots to divide the country by heritage, you must set a sacred portion of the countryaside for Yahweh: twenty-five thousand cubits long and twenty thousand wide. The whole of this land must besacred,1 Cumque cœperitis terram dividere sortito, separate primitias Domino, sanctificatum de terra, longitudine viginti quinque millia, et latitudine decem millia : sanctificatum erit in omni termino ejus per circuitum.
and of this an area five hundred by five hundred cubits must be for the sanctuary, with a boundary fiftycubits wide right round.2 Et erit ex omni parte sanctificatum quingentos per quingentos, quadrifariam per circuitum, et quinquaginta cubitis in suburbana ejus per gyrum.
Out of this area you must also measure a section twenty-five thousand by ten thousand cubits, inwhich wil be the sanctuary, the Holy of Holies.3 Et a mensura ista mensurabis longitudinem viginti quinque millium, et latitudinem decem millium : et in ipso erit templum, Sanctumque sanctorum.
This will be the sacred portion of the country, belonging to the priests who officiate in the sanctuaryand approach Yahweh to serve him. It wil contain room for their houses and room for the sanctuary.4 Sanctificatum de terra erit sacerdotibus ministris sanctuarii, qui accedunt ad ministerium Domini : et erit eis locus in domos, et in sanctuarium sanctitatis.
A portion twenty-five thousand by ten thousand cubits wil be owned by the Levites serving theTemple, with towns for them to live in.5 Viginti quinque autem millia longitudinis, et decem millia latitudinis erunt Levitis qui ministrant domui : ipsi possidebunt viginti gazophylacia.
You must give the city possession of an area five thousand by twenty-five thousand cubits, near theland belonging to the sanctuary; this must be for the whole House of Israel.6 Et possessionem civitatis dabitis quinque millia latitudinis, et longitudinis viginti quinque millia, secundum separationem sanctuarii, omni domui Israël.
"The prince must have a territory either side of the sacred portion and of the property of the city, adjacent to the sacred portion and the property of the city, stretching westwards from the west and eastwardsfrom the east, its size equal to one of the portions between the west and the east frontiers7 Principi quoque hinc et inde in separationem sanctuarii, et in possessionem civitatis, contra faciem separationis sanctuarii, et contra faciem possessionis urbis, a latere maris usque ad mare, et a latere orientis usque ad orientem : longitudinis autem juxta unamquamque partem, a termino occidentali usque ad terminum orientalem.
of the country. This wil be his property in Israel. Then my princes wil no longer oppress my people;they must leave the rest of the country for the House of Israel, for its tribes.8 De terra erit ei possessio in Israël, et non depopulabuntur ultra principes populum meum : sed terram dabunt domui Israël secundum tribus eorum.
"The Lord Yahweh says this: Enough, princes of Israel! Give up your violence and plundering, do whatis upright and just, stop crushing my people with taxation -- declares the Lord Yahweh.9 Hæc dicit Dominus Deus : Sufficiat vobis, principes Israël : iniquitatem et rapinas intermittite, et judicium et justitiam facite : separate confinia vestra a populo meo, ait Dominus Deus.
Have fair scales, a fair ephah, a fair bat.10 Statera justa, et ephi justum, et batus justus erit vobis.
Let the ephah and bat be equal, let the bat hold one-tenth of a homer and the ephah one-tenth of ahomer. Let the measures be based on the homer.11 Ephi et batus æqualia et unius mensuræ erunt, ut capiat decimam partem cori batus, et decimam partem cori ephi : juxta mensuram cori erit æqua libratio eorum.
The shekel must be twenty gerah. Twenty shekels, twenty-five shekels and fifteen shekels mustmake one mina.12 Siclus autem viginti obolos habet : porro viginti sicli, et viginti quinque sicli, et quindecim sicli, mnam faciunt.
"This is the offering that you must levy: the sixth of an ephah for every homer of wheat, and the sixthof an ephah for every homer of barley.13 Et hæ sunt primitiæ quas tolletis : sextam partem ephi de coro frumenti, et sextam partem ephi de coro hordei.
The dues on oil: one bat of oil out of every ten bat or out of every kor (which is equal to ten bat or onehomer, since ten bat equal one homer).14 Mensura quoque olei, batus olei, decima pars cori est : et decem bati corum faciunt, quia decem bati implent corum.
You must levy one sheep on every flock of two hundred from the pastures of Israel for the oblation, the burnt offerings and the communion sacrifice. This must form your expiation -- declares the Lord Yahweh.15 Et arietem unum de grege ducentorum, de his quæ nutriunt Israël, in sacrificium, et in holocaustum, et in pacifica, ad expiandum pro eis, ait Dominus Deus.
Let al the people of the country be subject to this due for the prince of Israel.16 Omnis populus terræ tenebitur primitiis his principi in Israël.
The prince must make himself responsible for providing the burnt offerings, the oblation and thelibations for feasts, New Moons, Sabbaths and al the solemn festivals of the House of Israel. He must providethe sacrifice for sin, the oblation, the burnt offerings and the communion sacrifices to make expiation for theHouse of Israel.17 Et super principem erunt holocausta, et sacrificium, et libamina, in solemnitatibus, et in calendis, et in sabbatis, et in universis solemnitatibus domus Israël : ipse faciet pro peccato sacrificium, et holocaustum, et pacifica, ad expiandum pro domo Israël.
"The Lord Yahweh says this: On the first day of the first month, you must take a young bul withoutblemish, to purify the sanctuary.18 Hæc dicit Dominus Deus : In primo mense, una mensis, sumes vitulum de armento immaculatum, et expiabis sanctuarium.
The priest must take blood from the sacrifice for sin and put it on the doorposts of the Temple, on thefour corners of the altar plinth and on the doorposts of the gates of the inner court.19 Et tollet sacerdos de sanguine quod erit pro peccato, et ponet in postibus domus, et in quatuor angulis crepidinis altaris, et in postibus portæ atrii interioris.
You must do the same on the seventh of the month, on behalf of anyone who has sinned throughinadvertence or ignorance. This is how you must make expiation for the Temple.20 Et sic facies in septima mensis, pro unoquoque qui ignoravit, et errore deceptus est : et expiabis pro domo.
On the fourteenth day of the first month, you must celebrate the feast of the Passover. For sevendays everyone must eat unleavened loaves.21 In primo mense, quartadecima die mensis, erit vobis Paschæ solemnitas : septem diebus azyma comedentur.
On that day, the prince must offer a bull as a sacrifice for sin, for himself and al the people of thecountry.22 Et faciet princeps in die illa, pro se et pro universo populo terræ, vitulum pro peccato.
For the seven days of the feast, he must offer Yahweh burnt offerings of seven bul s and seven ramswithout blemish, daily for a week, and one he-goat daily as a sacrifice for sin,23 Et in septem dierum solemnitate faciet holocaustum Domino, septem vitulos et septem arietes immaculatos, quotidie septem diebus : et pro peccato hircum caprarum quotidie.
and as an oblation, one ephah for each bul and one ephah for each ram, and a hin of oil for everyephah.24 Et sacrificium ephi per vitulum, et ephi per arietem faciet, et olei hin per singula ephi.
"For the feast that fal s on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, he must do the same for sevendays, offering the sacrifice for sin, the burnt offerings, the oblation and the oil." '25 Septimo mense, quintadecima die mensis, in solemnitate, faciet sicut supra dicta sunt per septem dies, tam pro peccato quam pro holocausto, et in sacrificio, et in oleo.
