Jeremiah 44

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 The word that came to Jeremiah for al the Judaeans living in Egypt, those, that is, living in Migdol,Tahpanhes, Noph and the territory of Pathros.	1 Palabra que fue dirigida a Jeremías con destino a todos los judíos establecidos en territorio egipcio en Migdol, Tafnis, Nof, y en territorio de Patrós.
2 'Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, says this, "You have seen al the disaster I have brought onJerusalem and all the towns of Judah; today they lie in ruins and uninhabited.	2 Así dice Yahveh Sebaot, el Dios de Israel: Vosotros habéis visto la calamidad que he acarreado a Jerusalén y a todas las ciudades de Judá, y ahí las tenéis arruinadas hoy en día, sin que haya en ellas habitante,
3 This was because of the wicked deeds they committed to provoke my anger, by going and offeringincense and serving other gods whom neither they, nor you, nor your ancestors knew anything about,	3 en vista de la maldad que hicieron para irritarme, yendo a incensar y servir a otros dioses desconocidos de ellos, de vosotros y de vuestros padres.
4 although I urgently and untiringly sent you al my servants the prophets to say: You must not do thisloathsome thing, which I hate.	4 Yo me afané por enviaros a todos mis siervos, los profetas, a deciros: «Ea, no hagáis esta abominación que detesto».
5 But they would not listen or pay attention, and turn from their wickedness and stop offering incense toother gods.	5 Mas no oyeron ni aplicaron el oído para convertirse de su malicia y dejar de incensar a otros dioses.
6 And so my furious anger overflowed, burning down the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem,which were reduced to ruins and wasteland, as they stil are today.	6 Derramóse mi cólera y mi ira y ardió en las ciudades de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalén, que fueron reducidas a ruinas desoladas, como lo están hoy día.
7 And now, Yahweh, God Sabaoth, God of Israel, says this: Why bring complete disaster on yourselvesby cutting yourselves off from Judah -- your men, women, children and babes in arms -- so as to leaveyourselves no remnant,	7 Ahora, pues, así dice Yahveh, el Dios Sebaot, el Dios de Israel: ¿Por qué os hacéis tanto daño a vosotros mismos, hasta borraros a hombre y mujer, niño y lactante de en medio de Judá sin que os quede resto,
8 by provoking my wrath by your actions, offering incense to other gods in Egypt where you have cometo settle, as though bent on your own destruction and on becoming a curse and a laughing-stock for all thenations of the earth?	8 irritándome con las hechuras de vuestras manos, quemando incienso a otros dioses en Egipto, adonde habéis venido como refugiados, como queriendo acabar de borraros a vosotros mismos y acabar en tema de maldición y oprobio en todas las naciones de la tierra?
9 Have you forgotten the wicked deeds of your ancestors, of the kings of Judah and of your princes, yourown wicked deeds and those of your wives, committed in the country of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?	9 ¿Si será que habéis olvidado las maldades de vuestros padres y las de los reyes de Judá y de sus caudillos, y las propias vuestras y las de vuestras mujeres; maldades que hacían en tierra de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalén?
10 To this day they have felt neither contrition nor fear; they have not observed my Law or my statutes,which I prescribed for you, as for your ancestors.	10 No se han compungido hasta la fecha, ni han temido ni andado en la Ley y los preceptos que propuse a vosotros y a vuestros padres.
11 So, Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, says this: Look, I have determined on disaster and shal destroyJudah completely.	11 Por tanto, así dice Yahveh Sebaot, el Dios de Israel: Mirad que yo me fijo en vosotros para mal, y para raer a todo Judá.
12 I shal take the remnant of Judah who were determined to come to Egypt and settle there, and inEgypt they wil perish; they wil fal to the sword or perish of famine, from least to greatest; by sword and faminethey will die and be an object of execration and horror, a curse, a laughing-stock.	12 Echaré mano al resto de Judá - los que enderezaron rumbo a Egipto, para entrar allí como refugiados - y serán acabados todos ellos en Egipto, y caerán por la espada, por el hambre serán acabados. Del chico al grande por la espada y por el hambre morirán, y serán tema de imprecación y asombro, de maldición y oprobio.
13 I shal punish those who live in Egypt just as I punished Jerusalem: by sword, famine and plague.	13 Visitaré a los que viven en Egipto, lo mismo que visité a Jerusalén: con la espada, el hambre y la peste,
14 Of the remnant of Judah which has come to settle in Egypt, not a single one wil escape or survive toreturn to the country of Judah where they long to return and live. For none of them wil return, except a fewrefugees." '	14 y del resto de Judá, que, como refugiados vinieron acá a Egipto, no quedará evadido ni superviviente para volver a tierra de Judá, adonde se prometen volver para quedarse allí, porque ya no volverán más que algunos huidos.
15 At this, all the men who knew that their wives offered incense to other gods, and al the women whowere standing there, a great crowd (and al the people living in Egypt, in Pathros), answered Jeremiah asfol ows,	15 Respondieron a Jeremías todos los hombres que sabían que sus mujeres quemaban incienso a otros dioses, y todas las mujeres presentes - una gran concurrencia - y todo el pueblo establecido en territorio egipcio, en Patrós:
16 'We have no intention of listening to the word you have just spoken to us in Yahweh's name,	16 «En eso que nos has dicho en nombre de Yahveh, no te hacemos caso,
17 but intend to go on doing al we have vowed to do: offering incense to the Queen of Heaven andpouring libations in her honour, as we used to do, we and our ancestors, our kings and our chief men, in thetowns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem: we had food in plenty then, we lived well, we suffered no disasters.	17 sino que cumpliremos precisamente cuanto tenemos prometido, que es quemar incienso a la Reina de los Cielos y hacerle libaciones, como venimos haciendo nosotros y nuestros padres, nuestros reyes y nuestros jefes en las ciudades de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalén, que nos hartábamos de pan, éramos felices y ningún mal nos sucedía.
18 But since we gave up offering incense to the Queen of Heaven and pouring libations in her honour,we have been destitute and have perished either by sword or by famine.	18 En cambio, desde que dejamos de quemar incienso a la Reina de los Cielos y de hacerle libaciones, carecemos de todo, y por la espada y el hambre somos acabados».
19 Besides, when we offer incense to the Queen of Heaven and pour libations in her honour, do youthink we make cakes for her with her features on them, and pour libations to her, without our husbands'knowledge?'	19 «Pues y cuando nosotras quemábamos incienso a la Reina de los Cielos y nos dedicábamos a hacerle libaciones, ¿ acaso sin contar con nuestros maridos le hacíamos pasteles con su efigie derramando libaciones?»
20 To al the people, men and women, all those who had made this answer, Jeremiah retorted,	20 Jeremías dijo a todo el pueblo, a hombres, a mujeres y a todos sus interlocutores:
21 'The incense you offered in the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem, you, your ancestors,your kings, your chief men and the people at large -- was this not what Yahweh kept remembering, and found sorepellent	21 «¿No es aquel incienso que ofrecíais en las ciudades de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalén vosotros y vuestros padres, vuestros reyes y jefes y el pueblo de la tierra lo que ha recordado Yahveh y le ha venido a las mientes?
22 that Yahweh could not endure your misdeeds and your loathsome practices any longer, with the resultthat your country has become the uninhabited ruin, the object of horror and cursing it is today?	22 ¿Y no pudiendo Yahveh aguantar más el espectáculo de vuestras malas acciones, de las abominaciones que habíais hecho, ha venido a ser la tierra vuestra una ruina, tema de pasmo y maldición y sin habitantes - como lo es hoy día -;
23 Because you offered incense, because you sinned against Yahweh, refusing to listen to the voice ofYahweh, or to observe his Law, his statutes and his decrees -- that is why the present disaster has overtakenyou.'	23 y porque ofrecisteis incienso y pecasteis contra Yahveh y desoísteis la voz de Yahveh, y no os condujistéis según su Ley, sus preceptos y sus estatutos, pronunció contra vosotros esta calamidad, como sucede hoy día?»
24 Further, Jeremiah said to al the people, and particularly to al the women, 'Listen to the word ofYahweh, al you Judaeans in Egypt,	24 Y dijo Jeremías a todo el pueblo y a todas las mujeres: «Oíd la palabra de Yahveh - todo Judá, los que vivís en Egipto -.
25 Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, says this, "You and your wives, what your mouths promised, yourhands have indeed performed! You said: We shall punctiliously fulfil the vows we have made and offer incenseto the Queen of Heaven and pour libations in her honour. Very wel , keep your vows, perform them punctiliously!	25 Así dice Yahveh Sebaot, el Dios de Israel: Vosotros y vuestras mujeres hablasteis con vuestras bocas, y con vuestras manos cumplisteis lo dicho: “Sin falta realizaremos los votos que hicimos de quemar incienso a la Reina de los Cielos y de hacerle libaciones.” Mantened, pues, vosotras vuestros votos y realizad vuestros votos sin falta.
26 But listen to the word of Yahweh, al you Judaeans living in Egypt: I swear by my great name, Yahwehsays, that my name wil no longer be uttered by any man of Judah throughout Egypt; no one wil say: As LordYahweh lives.	26 Empero, oíd la palabra de Yahveh, todo Judá, los que vivís en Egipto. Mirad que yo he jurado por mi gran Nombre - dice Yahveh - que no será más mi Nombre pronunciado por boca de ninguno de Judá que diga: “¡Por vida del Señor Yahveh!” en toda la tierra de Egipto.
27 No, I am going to keep my eye on them for disaster, not for prosperity, and al the Judaeans in Egyptwil perish either by the sword or by famine until they are wiped out.	27 Mirad que yo estoy alerta sobre ellos para mal, no para bien, y serán consumidos todos los de Judá que están en Egipto, por la espada y el hambre hasta su acabamiento,
28 Yet, though few in number, those who escape the sword wil return to the country of Judah fromEgypt. Then the entire remnant of Judah which has come and settled in Egypt wil know whose word comes true,mine or theirs.	28 sólo unos pocos, escapados de la espada, volverán de Egipto a Judá y sabrá todo el resto de Judá, los que han venido a Egipto como refugiados aquí, qué palabra se mantendrá: si la mía o la suya.
29 "And here is the sign for you, Yahweh declares, that I shal punish you in this place: so that you wilknow that the words with which I threaten you will come true:	29 Y esto será para vosotros señal - oráculo de Yahveh - de que os visito yo en este lugar, de suerte que sepáis que han de mantenerse sin falta mis palabras para desgracia vuestra.
30 Yahweh says this: Look, I shal hand Pharaoh Hophra, king of Egypt, over to his enemies and to thosedetermined to kil him, just as I handed Zedekiah king of Judah over to his enemy Nebuchadnezzar king ofBabylon, who was determined to kil him." '	30 Así dice Yahveh: Mirad que yo entrego al Faraón Jofrá, rey de Egipto, en manos de sus enemigos y de los que buscan su muerte, como entregué a Sedecías, rey de Judá, en manos de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, su enemigo, que buscaba su muerte».
