Jeremiah 20

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Now the priest Pashhur son of Immer, who was the chief of police in the Temple of Yahweh, heardJeremiah making this prophecy.	1 Or le prêtre Pashehur, fils d'Immer, qui était le chef de la police dans le Temple de Yahvé, entenditJérémie qui proférait cet oracle.
2 Pashhur struck the prophet Jeremiah and then put him in the stocks, in the Upper Benjamin Gateleading into the Temple of Yahweh.	2 Pashehur frappa le prophète Jérémie, puis le mit au carcan, à la porte haute de Benjamin, celle quidonne dans le Temple de Yahvé.
3 Next day, Pashhur had Jeremiah taken out of the stocks; Jeremiah then said to him, 'Not Pashhur butTerror-on-every-Side is Yahweh's name for you.	3 Le lendemain, Pashehur fit tirer Jérémie du carcan. Alors Jérémie lui dit: "Ce n'est plus Pashehurque Yahvé t'appelle, mais Terreur-de-tous-côtés.
4 For Yahweh says this, "I am going to hand you over to terror, you and al your friends; they wil fal bythe sword of their enemies, your own eyes wil see it. The whole of Judah, too, I shal hand over to the king ofBabylon; he will carry them off captive to Babylon and put them to the sword.	4 Car ainsi parle Yahvé: Voici que je vais te livrer à la terreur, toi et tous tes amis; ils tomberontsous l'épée de leurs ennemis: tes yeux verront cela! De même Juda tout entier, je le livrerai aux mains du roi deBabylone qui déportera les gens à Babylone et les frappera de l'épée.
5 And al the wealth of this city, all its stores, al its valuables, al the treasures of the kings of Judah, Ishall hand over to their enemies who wil plunder them, round them up and carry them off to Babylon.	5 Je livrerai encore toutes les richesses de cette ville, toutes ses réserves, tout ce qu'elle a deprécieux, tous les trésors des rois de Juda, je les livrerai aux mains de leurs ennemis qui les pilleront, lesenlèveront et les emporteront à Babylone.
6 As for you, Pashhur, and your whole household, you will go into captivity; you will go to Babylon; thereyou wil die, and there be buried, you and all your friends to whom you have prophesied lies." '	6 Et toi, Pashehur, ainsi que tous les hôtes de ta maison, vous partirez en captivité; à Babylone tuiras, là tu mourras, là tu seras enterré, toi et tous tes amis à qui tu as prophétisé le mensonge."
7 You have seduced me, Yahweh, and I have let myself be seduced; you have overpowered me: youwere the stronger. I am a laughing-stock al day long, they al make fun of me.	7 Tu m'as séduit, Yahvé, et je me suis laissé séduire; tu m'as maîtrisé, tu as été le plus fort. Je suisprétexte continuel à la moquerie, la fable de tout le monde.
8 For whenever I speak, I have to howl and proclaim, 'Violence and ruin!' For me, Yahweh's word hasbeen the cause of insult and derision al day long.	8 Chaque fois que j'ai à parler, je dois crier et proclamer: "Violence et dévastation!" La parole deYahvé a été pour moi source d'opprobre et de moquerie tout le jour.
9 I would say to myself, 'I will not think about him, I wil not speak in his name any more,' but then thereseemed to be a fire burning in my heart, imprisoned in my bones. The effort to restrain it wearied me, I could notdo it.	9 Je me disais: Je ne penserai plus à lui, je ne parlerai plus en son Nom; mais c'était en mon coeurcomme un feu dévorant, enfermé dans mes os. Je m'épuisais à le contenir, mais je n'ai pas pu.
10 I heard so many disparaging me, 'Terror on every side! Denounce him! Let us denounce him!' Althose who were on good terms with me watched for my downfal , 'Perhaps he wil be seduced into error. Thenwe shal get the better of him and take our revenge!'	10 J'entendais les calomnies de beaucoup: "Terreur de tous côtés! Dénoncez! Dénonçons-le!" Tousceux qui étaient en paix avec moi guettaient ma chute: "Peut-être se laissera-t-il séduire? Nous serons plus fortsque lui et tirerons vengeance de lui!"
11 But Yahweh is at my side like a mighty hero; my opponents wil stumble, vanquished, confounded bytheir failure; everlasting, unforgettable disgrace wil be theirs.	11 Mais Yahvé est avec moi comme un héros puissant; mes adversaires vont trébucher, vaincus: lesvoilà tout confus de leur échec; honte éternelle, inoubliable.
12 Yahweh Sabaoth, you who test the upright, observer of motives and thoughts, I shall see yourvengeance on them, for I have revealed my cause to you.	12 Yahvé Sabaot, qui scrutes le juste et vois les reins et le coeur, je verrai la vengeance que tu tirerasd'eux, car c'est à toi que j'ai exposé ma cause.
13 Sing to Yahweh, praise Yahweh, for he has delivered the soul of one in need from the clutches of evildoers.	13 Chantez Yahvé, louez Yahvé, car il a délivré l'âme du malheureux de la main des malfaisants.
14 A curse on the day when I was born! May the day my mother bore me be unblessed!	14 Maudit soit le jour où je suis né! Le jour où ma mère m'enfanta, qu'il ne soit pas béni!
15 A curse on the man who brought my father the news, 'A son, a boy has been born to you!' making himoverjoyed.	15 Maudit soit l'homme qui annonça à mon père cette nouvelle: "Un fils, un garçon t'est né!" et lecombla de joie.
16 May this man be like the towns that Yahweh overthrew without mercy; may he hear the warning-cry atdawn and the shout of battle at high noon,	16 Que cet homme soit pareil aux villes que Yahvé a renversées sans pitié; qu'il entende le crid'alarme au matin et le cri de guerre en plein midi,
17 for not kil ing me in the womb; my mother would have been my grave and her womb pregnant forever.	17 car il ne m'a pas fait mourir dès le sein, pour que ma mère soit un tombeau et que ses entraillesme portent à jamais.
18 Why ever did I come out of the womb to see toil and sorrow and end my days in shame?	18 Pourquoi donc suis-je sorti du sein? Pour voir tourment et peine et finir mes jours dans la honte.
