Isaiah 8

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Yahweh said to me, 'Take a large tablet and on it with an ordinary stylus write, "Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz".	1 Yahvé me dit: Prends une grande tablette et écris dessus avec un stylet ordinaire: Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz.
2 And take reliable witnesses, the priest Uriah and Zechariah son of Jeberechiah.'	2 Et prends des témoins dignes de foi, le prêtre Uriyya et Zekaryahu fils de Yebèrèkyahu.
3 I then had intercourse with the prophetess, who then conceived and gave birth to a son. Yahweh said tome, 'Cal him Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz,	3 Puis je m'approchai de la prophétesse, elle conçut et enfanta un fils. Et Yahvé me dit: Donne-lui le nomde Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz,
4 for before the child knows how to say "mother" or "father", the wealth of Damascus and the booty of Samaria wil be carried away while the king of Assyria looks on.'	4 car avant que le garçon ne sache dire "papa" et "maman", on enlèvera la richesse de Damas et le butinde Samarie, en présence du roi d'Assur.
5 Yahweh spoke to me again and said,	5 Yahvé me parla encore en disant:
6 'Since this people has rejected the waters of Shiloah which flow smoothly, and has trembled beforeRazon and the son of Remaliah,	6 Puisque ce peuple a méprisé les eaux de Siloé qui coulent doucement, et a tremblé devant Raçôn et lefils de Remalyahu,
7 now, against it, the Lord will bring the mighty, swel ing waters of the River (the king of Assyria and al hisglory); the River wil flood up all its channels and overflow al its banks;	7 eh bien! voici que le Seigneur fait monter contre lui les eaux du Fleuve, puissantes et abondantes (le roid'Assur et toute sa gloire); il grossira dans toutes ses vallées et franchira toutes ses rives;
8 it wil flow into Judah, flooding everything and passing on; it will reach right up to the neck, and the spreading of its wings wil cover the whole extent of your country, Immanuel!	8 il passera en Juda, inondera et traversera; il atteindra jusqu'au cou, et le déploiement de ses ailescouvrira toute l'étendue de ton pays, Emmanuel.
9 Realise this, peoples, and be afraid, listen, all members of far-off nations! Arm yourselves yet be afraid!Arm yourselves yet be afraid!	9 Sachez, peuples, et soyez épouvantés; prêtez l'oreille, tous les pays lointains. Ceignez-vous et soyezépouvantés. Ceignez-vous et soyez épouvantés.
10 Devise plans as you may: they will come to nothing! Make what pronouncements you like; it wil notcome about! For God is with us!'	10 Faites un projet: il sera anéanti, prononcez une parole: elle ne tiendra pas, car "Dieu est avec nous."
11 For this was how Yahweh spoke to me when his hand seized hold of me and he taught me not to fol owthe path of this people, saying,	11 Oui, ainsi m'a parlé Yahvé lorsque sa main m'a saisi et qu'il m'a appris à ne pas suivre le chemin de cepeuple, en disant:
12 'Do not call conspiracy al that this people calls conspiracy; do not dread what they dread, have no fearof that.	12 "Vous n'appellerez pas complot tout ce que ce peuple appelle complot, vous ne partagerez pas sescraintes et vous n'en serez pas terrifiés.
13 Yahweh Sabaoth is the one you wil proclaim holy, him you wil dread, him you wil fear.	13 C'est Yahvé Sabaot que vous proclamerez saint, c'est lui qui sera l'objet de votre crainte et de votreterreur.
14 He will be a sanctuary, a stumbling-stone, a rock to trip up the two Houses of Israel; a snare and a trapfor the inhabitants of Jerusalem,	14 Il sera un sanctuaire, un rocher qui fait tomber, une pierre d'achoppement pour les deux maisonsd'Israël, un filet et un piège pour les habitants de Jérusalem.
15 over which many of them wil stumble, fal and be broken, be ensnared and made captive.	15 Beaucoup y achopperont, tomberont et se briseront, ils seront pris au piège et capturés.
16 Bind up the testimony, seal the instruction in the heart of my disciples.'	16 Enferme un témoignage, scelle une instruction au coeur de mes disciples."
17 My trust is in Yahweh who hides his face from the House of Jacob; I put my hope in him.	17 J'espère en Yahvé qui cache sa face à la maison de Jacob, et je mets mon attente en lui.
18 Look, I and the children whom Yahweh has given me shal become signs and portents in Israel onbehalf of Yahweh Sabaoth who dwel s on Mount Zion.	18 Voici que moi et les enfants que Yahvé m'a donnés nous devenons signes et présages en Israël, de lapart de Yahvé Sabaot qui habite sur la montagne de Sion.
19 And should people say to you, 'Go and consult ghosts and wizards that whisper and mutter' -- a peopleshould certainly consult its gods and the dead on behalf of the living!	19 Et si on vous dit: "Allez consulter les spectres et les devins qui murmurent et qui marmonnent", n'est-il pas vrai qu'un peuple consulte ses dieux, et les morts pour les vivants?
20 As regards instruction and testimony, without doubt this is how they wil talk, and hence there wil be nodawn for them.	20 Pour l'instruction et le témoignage, sûrement on s'exprimera selon cette parole d'après laquelle il n'y apas d'aurore.
21 Oppressed and starving he wil wander the country; and, once starving, he wil become frenzied andcurse his king and his God; turning his gaze upward,	21 Et il passera dans le pays, opprimé et affamé; il arrivera que lorsqu'il sera affamé, il s'irritera, ilmaudira son roi et son Dieu, et se tournera vers le ciel.
22 then down to earth, there wil be only anguish, gloom, the confusion of night, swirling darkness.	22 Puis il regardera vers la terre; et voici: angoisse, obscurité, nuit de détresse, ténèbres dissolvantes.
23 For is not everything dark as night for a country in distress? As the past humbled the land of Zebulunand the land of Naphtali, so the future will glorify the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan, the territory of thenations.	23 Car n'est-ce pas la nuit pour le pays qui est dans la détresse? Comme le passé a humilié le pays deZabulon et le pays de Nephtali, l'avenir glorifiera le chemin de la mer, au-delà du Jourdain, le district desnations.
