1 On hearing this, King Hezekiah tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and went to the Temple of Yahweh.	1 E quando il re Ezechia ebbe udito, stracciò le sue vesti, e si involse nel cilicio, ed entrò nella casa del Signore.
2 He sent Eliakim master of the palace, Shebna the secretary and the elders of the priests, wearingsackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz.	2 E mandò Eliacim prefetto della casa, e Sobna dottor della legge, e gli anziani de' sacerdoti vestiti di cilizio ad Isaia figliuolo di Amos profeta,
3 They said to him, 'This is what Hezekiah says, "Today is a day of suffering, of punishment, of disgrace.Children come to birth and there is no strength to bring them forth.	3 E questi gli dissero: Ezechia dice: Giorno di tribolazione, e di gastigo, e di bestemmia egli è questo: i figliuoli sono stati condotti fino al parto, e manca la forza per partorirli.
4 May Yahweh your God hear the words of the cupbearer-in-chief whom his master, the king of Assyria,has sent to insult the living God, and may Yahweh your God punish the words he has heard! Offer your prayerfor the remnant stil left." '	4 Se il Signore Dio tuo ha udite le parole di Rabsace mandato dal re Assiro suo signore a bestemmiare il Dio vivo, ed a schernirlo con que' discorsi, che il Signore Dio tuo ha sentiti: alza adunque tu la tua orazione per que', che ancora rimangono.
5 When King Hezekiah's ministers came to Isaiah,	5 E andarono i servi di Ezechia da Isaia:
6 he said to them, 'Say to your master, "Yahweh says this: Do not be afraid of the words which you haveheard or the blasphemies which the king of Assyria's minions have uttered against me.	6 E Isaia disse loro: Dite questo al vostro padrone: Il Signore dice: Non ti faccian paura le parole, che hai udite, colle quali i servi del re degli Assirj mi hanno bestemmiato.
7 Look, I am going to put a spirit in him and, on the strength of a rumour, he will go back to his owncountry, and in that country I shall make him fal by the sword." '	7 Ecco, che io darò a lui uno spirito, e gli sarà recato un avviso, e tornerà al suo paese, e farollo perire di spada nel suo paese.
8 The cupbearer turned about and rejoined the king of Assyria, who was then attacking Libnah, thecupbearer having learnt that the king had already left Lachish	8 E se n' andò' Rabsace, che aveva udito come il re degli Assirj era sloggiato da Lachis, e trovollo, che faceva assedio di Lobna,
9 on hearing that Tirhakah king of Cush was on his way to attack him. Sennacherib again sentmessengers to Hezekiah, saying,	9 E udì novelle intorno a Taraca re dell'Etiopia, come questi veniva per combatterlo. La qualcosa poiché ebbe udita, mandò ambasciadori ad Ezechia, dicendo:
10 'Tel Hezekiah king of Judah this, "Do not let your God on whom you are relying deceive you with thepromise: Jerusalem wil not fal into the king of Assyria's clutches.	10 Direte ad Ezechia re di Giuda: Non t'inganni il tuo Dio a cui tu ti affidi col dire: Non sarà data Gerusalemme in potere del re Assiro.
11 You have learnt by now what the kings of Assyria have done to al the other countries, putting themunder the curse of destruction. Are you likely to be saved?	11 Ecco, che tu hai sentito tutto quel, che han fatto i re Assiri a tutte queste regioni, le quali eglino hanno sterminate; e tu potrai liberartene?
12 Did the gods of the nations whom my ancestors devastated save them-Gozan, Haran, Rezeph andthe Edenites who were in Tel Basar?	12 Hann'eglino forse gli dei delle genti salvato quegli, a' quali portaron rovina ì padri miei, Gozan, e Haram e Reseph, e i figliuoli di Eden, che erano in Thelassar?
13 Where is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, the king of Lair, of Sepharvaim, of Hena, of Ivvah?" '	13 Dov'è il re di Emath, e il re di Arphad, e il re della città di Sepharvaim, di Ana, e di Ava?
14 Hezekiah took the letter from the messengers' hands and read it; he then went up to the Temple ofYahweh and spread it out before Yahweh.	14 E prese Ezechia la lettera dalle mani degli ambasciadori, e la lesse, e andossene alla casa del Signore, e la distese dinanzi al Signore.
15 Hezekiah said this prayer in the presence of Yahweh,	15 E fece orazione Ezechia al Signore, dicendo:
16 'Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, enthroned on the winged creatures, you alone are God of al thekingdoms of the world, you made heaven and earth.	16 Signore degli eserciti, Dio d'Israele, che siedi sopra i cherubini; tu solo se Dio di tutti i regni della terra tu facesti il cielo, e la terra
17 Give ear, Yahweh, and listen; open your eyes, Yahweh, and see! Hear the words of Sennacherib, whohas sent to insult the living God.	17 Porgi Signore le tue orecchie, ed ascolta: apri Signore gli occhi tuoi, e vedi, ed ascolta tutto quello, che manda a dire Sennacherib bestemmiando il Dio vivo.
18 It is true, Yahweh, that the kings of Assyria have destroyed all the nations (and their countries);	18 Vero è, o Signore, che i re degli Assirj han disertate le genti, e i loro paesi.
19 they have thrown their gods on the fire, for these were not gods but human artefacts -- wood andstone -- and hence they have destroyed them.	19 Ed han dati alle fiamme gli dei loro: perocché non erano dei, ma opere delle mani degli uomini, legni, e sassi: e gli hanno fatti in pezzi.
20 But now, Yahweh our God, save us from his clutches, I beg you, and let al the kingdoms of the worldknow that you alone are God, Yahweh.'	20 Ma tu adesso, o Signore Dio nostro, salvaci dalle mani di lui; e i regni tutti della terra conoscano, che tu se solo il Signore.
21 Isaiah son of Amoz then sent the fol owing message to Hezekiah, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this,"In answer to the prayer which you have addressed to me about Sennacherib king of Assyria.	21 E Isaia figliuolo di Amos mandò a dire ad Ezechia: Il Signore Dio d'Israele dice cosi: Quanto a quello, che tu mi hai pregato di fare riguardo a Sennacherib re degli Assirj:
22 Here is the pronouncement which Yahweh has made about him: She despises you, she scorns you,the virgin daughter of Zion; she tosses her head at you, the daughter of Jerusalem!	22 Ecco quello che ha detto il Signore contro di lui: Egli ti ha disprezzato, e ti ha insultato, o vergine figlia di Sion: ha scosso la testa dietro a te, figliuola di Gerusalemme.
23 Whom have you insulted, whom did you blaspheme? Against whom raised your voice and lifted yourhaughty eyes? Against the Holy One of Israel.	23 Chi hai tu oltraggiato, e chi hai tu bestemmiato, e contro di chi hai alzata la voce, e il superbo tuo sguardo? Contro il Santo d'Israele.
24 Through your minions you have insulted the Lord, thinking: With my many chariots I have climbed themountain-tops, the utmost peaks of Lebanon. I have fel ed its mighty cedars, its finest cypresses, have reachedits furthest peak, its forest garden.	24 Per mezzo de' servi tuoi hai oltraggiato il Signore, ed hai detto: io colla moltitudine de' miei cocchi sono salito sugli alti monti, su' gioghi del Libano: troncherò i suoi cedri più alti, e gli scelti suoi abeti, salirò alla ultima cima di esso, ed entrerò nella boscaglia del suo Carmelo.
25 Yes, I have dug and drunk of foreign waters; under the soles of my feet I have dried up all Egypt'srivers.	25 Io ho scavato, ed ho bevuto le acque, e dovunque ho posti i piedi, ho asciugati tutti i rivi correnti tralle loro ripe.
26 Do you hear? Long ago I prepared this, from days of old I actual y planned it, now I carry it out. Youwere to lay walled cities in heaps of ruins;	26 Ma non hai tu udito, che io già tempo ordinai queste cose; Io già ab antico le concepii; ed ora le ho poste ad effetto; e sono eseguite, talmente chè sono distrutte le rocche, che fan resistenza, e le munite città.
27 that was why their inhabitants, feeble of hand, were dismayed and discomfited, were weak as grass,were frail as plants, were like grass of housetop and meadow under the east wind.	27 Gli abitatori di queste come monchi tremarono, e si spaurirono, son divenuti come lo strame de' campi, e il fieno de' pascoli, e l'erba dei tetti, che secca prima di esser a maturità.
28 But whether you stand up or sit down, whether you go out or come in, I know it (and how you raveagainst me).	28 Lo conobbi il tuo stare, e l'andare, e 'l venire, e la stoltezza tua contro di me.
29 Because you have raved against me and your arrogance has reached my ears, I shal put a hookthrough your nostrils and a muzzle on your lips, and make you return by the road by which you came.	29 Quando tu infuriavi contro di me, pervenne alle mie orecchie la tua arroganza: io pertanto metterò alle tue narici un anello, ed un freno alle tue labbra, e ti rimenerò per quella strada, per cui venisti.
30 And this will be the sign for you: This year wil be eaten the self-sown grain, next year what sprouts inthe fallow; but in the third year sow and reap, plant vineyards and eat their fruit.	30 Ma tu (o Ezechia) ecco il segno, che avrai: Mangia per quest'anno quello, che spontaneamente darà la terra; ed il secondo anno viverai di pomi: il terzo anno poi seminate, e mietete, e piantate vigne, e mangiatene i frutti.
31 The surviving remnant of the House of Judah wil bring forth new roots below and fruits above;	31 E quel, che si salverà, e quello, che rimarrà della casa di Giuda, getterà all'ingiù le sue radici, e fruttificherà in alto:
32 for a remnant wil issue from Jerusalem, and survivors from Mount Zion. Yahweh Sabaoth's jealouslove wil accomplish this." '	32 Perocché di Gerusalemme usciranno gli avanzi, e dal monte di Sion i salvati: lo zelo del Signor degli eserciti farà tal cosa.
33 'This, then, is what Yahweh says about the king of Assyria: He wil not enter this city, wil shoot noarrow at it, confront it with no shield, throw up no earthwork against it.	33 Per la qual cosa così dice il Signore riguardo al re Assiro: Ei non porrà il piede in questa città, né getterà qua una saetta, né la scalerà il soldato coperto di scudo, né egli alzerà terra all'intorno.
34 By the road by which he came, by that he wil return; he wil not enter this city, declares Yahweh.	34 Per la strada, per cui venne, ritornerà, e non entrerà in questa città, dice il Signore.
35 I shal protect this city and save it for my sake and my servant David's sake.'	35 Ed io proteggerò questa città, affin di salvarla a causa mia, e a causa di Davidde mio servo.
36 That same night the angel of Yahweh went out and struck down a hundred and eighty-five thousandmen in the Assyrian camp. In the early morning when it was time to get up, there they lay, so many corpses.	36 Venne adunque un angelo del Signore, e percosse negli alloggiamenti degli Assirj cento ottantacinque mila uomini: e la mattina alla levata, ecco che tutti questi, eran morti cadaveri.
37 Sennacherib struck camp and left; he returned home and stayed in Nineveh.	37 E partissi, e se n' andò, e tornò Sennacheribbe re degli Assirj a posarsi in Ninive.
38 One day when he was worshipping in the temple of his god Nisroch, his sons Adrammelech andSharezer struck him down with the sword and escaped into the territory of Ararat. His son Esarhaddonsucceeded him.	38 Ed avvenne, che mentre adorava nel tempio Nesroch suo Dio, Adramelech, e Savasar suoi figliuoli lo uccisero a colpi di spada, e fuggirono nel paese di Ararat, e regnò in luogo di lui il figliuol suo Asarhaddon.
