Sirach 44

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 Next let us praise il ustrious men, our ancestors in their successive generations.	1 Facciamo ora l’elogio di uomini illustri, dei padri nostri nelle loro generazioni.
2 The Lord has created an abundance of glory, and displayed his greatness from earliest times.	2 Il Signore li ha resi molto gloriosi: la sua grandezza è da sempre.
3 Some wielded authority as kings and were renowned for their strength; others were intel igent advisersand uttered prophetic sayings.	3 Signori nei loro regni, uomini rinomati per la loro potenza, consiglieri per la loro intelligenza e annunciatori nelle profezie.
4 Others directed the people by their advice, by their understanding of the popular mind, and by the wisewords of their teaching;	4 Capi del popolo con le loro decisioni e con l’intelligenza della sapienza popolare; saggi discorsi erano nel loro insegnamento.
5 others composed musical melodies and set down bal ads;	5 Inventori di melodie musicali e compositori di canti poetici.
6 others were rich and powerful, living peaceful y in their homes.	6 Uomini ricchi, dotati di forza, che vivevano in pace nelle loro dimore.
7 Al these were honoured by their contemporaries and were the glory of their day.	7 Tutti costoro furono onorati dai loro contemporanei, furono un vanto ai loro tempi.
8 Some of them left a name behind them, so that their praises are stil sung.	8 Di loro, alcuni lasciarono un nome, perché se ne celebrasse la lode.
9 While others have left no memory, and disappeared as though they had not existed. They are now asthough they had never been, and so too, their children after them.	9 Di altri non sussiste memoria, svanirono come se non fossero esistiti, furono come se non fossero mai stati, e così pure i loro figli dopo di loro.
10 But here is a list of il ustrious men whose good works have not been forgotten.	10 Questi invece furono uomini di fede, e le loro opere giuste non sono dimenticate.
11 In their descendants they find a rich inheritance, their posterity.	11 Nella loro discendenza dimora una preziosa eredità: i loro posteri.
12 Their descendants stand by the commandments and, thanks to them, so do their children's children.	12 La loro discendenza resta fedele alle alleanze e grazie a loro anche i loro figli.
13 Their offspring wil last for ever, their glory will not fade.	13 Per sempre rimarrà la loro discendenza e la loro gloria non sarà offuscata.
14 Their bodies have been buried in peace, and their name lives on for al generations.	14 I loro corpi furono sepolti in pace, ma il loro nome vive per sempre.
15 The peoples will proclaim their wisdom, the assembly wil celebrate their praises.	15 I popoli parlano della loro sapienza, l’assemblea ne proclama la lode.
16 Enoch pleased the Lord and was transferred to heaven, an example for the conversion of algenerations.	16 Enoc piacque al Signore e fu rapito, esempio di conversione per tutte le generazioni.
17 Noah was found perfectly upright, in the time of retribution he became the heir: because of him aremnant was preserved for the earth at the coming of the Flood.	17 Noè fu trovato perfetto e giusto, al tempo dell’ira fu segno di riconciliazione; per mezzo suo un resto sopravvisse sulla terra, quando ci fu il diluvio.
18 Everlasting covenants were made with him that never again should every living creature perish byflood.	18 Alleanze eterne furono stabilite con lui, perché con il diluvio non fosse distrutto ogni vivente.
19 Abraham, the great ancestor of a host of nations, no one was ever his equal in glory.	19 Abramo fu grande padre di una moltitudine di nazioni, nessuno fu trovato simile a lui nella gloria.
20 He observed the Law of the Most High, and entered into a covenant with him. He confirmed thecovenant in his own flesh, and proved himself faithful under ordeal.	20 Egli custodì la legge dell’Altissimo, con lui entrò in alleanza. Stabilì l’alleanza nella propria carne e nella prova fu trovato degno di fede.
21 The Lord therefore promised him on oath to bless the nations through his descendants, to multiply himlike the dust on the ground, to exalt his descendants like the stars, and to give them the land as their heritage,from one sea to the other, from the River to the ends of the earth.	21 Per questo Dio gli promise con giuramento di benedire le nazioni nella sua discendenza, di moltiplicarlo come la polvere della terra, di innalzare la sua discendenza come gli astri e di dar loro un’eredità da mare a mare e dal fiume fino all’estremità della terra.
22 To Isaac too, for the sake of Abraham his father, he assured	22 Anche a Isacco fu fatta la stessa promessa grazie ad Abramo, suo padre.
23 the blessing of al humanity; he caused the covenant to rest on the head of Jacob. He confirmed himin his blessings and gave him the land as his inheritance; he divided it into portions, and shared it out among thetwelve tribes.	23 La benedizione di tutti gli uomini e la sua alleanza Dio fece posare sul capo di Giacobbe; lo confermò nelle sue benedizioni, gli diede il paese in eredità: lo divise in varie parti, assegnandole alle dodici tribù. Da lui fece sorgere un uomo mite, che incontrò favore agli occhi di tutti,
