Proverbs 4

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Listen, my children, to a father's instruction; pay attention, and learn what understanding is.	1 Escuchad, hijos, la instrucción del padre, estad atentos para aprender inteligencia,
2 What I am offering you is sound doctrine: do not forsake my teaching.	2 porque es buena la doctrina que os enseño; no abandonéis mi lección.
3 I too was once a child with a father, in my mother's eyes a tender child, unique.	3 También yo fui hijo para mi padre, tierno y querido a los ojos de mi madre,
4 This was what he used to teach me, 'Let your heart treasure what I have to say, keep my principles andyou wil live;	4 El me enseñaba y me decía: «Retén mis palabras en tu corazón, guarda mis mandatos y vivirás.
5 acquire wisdom, acquire understanding, never forget her, never deviate from my words.	5 Adquiere la sabiduría, adquiere la inteligencia, no la olvides, no te apartes de los dichos de mi boca.
6 Do not desert her, she will keep you safe; love her, she wil watch over you.	6 No la abandones y ella te guardará, ámala y ella será tu defensa.
7 The first principle of wisdom is: acquire wisdom; at the cost of all you have, acquire understanding!	7 El comienzo de la sabiduría es: adquiere la sabiduría, a costa de todos tus bienes adquiere la inteligencia.
8 Hold her close, and she wil make you great; embrace her, and she wil be your pride;	8 Haz acopio de ella, y ella te ensalzará; ella te honrará, si tú la abrazas;
9 she will provide a graceful garland for your head, bestow a crown of honour on you.'	9 pondrá en tu cabeza una diadema de gracia, una espléndida corona será tu regalo».
10 Listen, my child, take my words to heart, and the years of your life wil be multiplied.	10 Escucha, hijo mío, recibe mis palabras, y los años de tu vida se te multiplicarán.
11 I have educated you in the ways of wisdom, I have guided you along the path of honesty.	11 En el camino de la sabiduría te he instruido, te he encaminado por los senderos de la rectitud.
12 When you walk, your going wil be unhindered, if you run, you wil not stumble.	12 Al andar no se enredarán tus pasos, y si corres, no tropezarás.
13 Hold fast to discipline, never let her go, keep your eyes on her, she is your life.	13 Aférrate a la instrucción, no la sueltes; guárdala, que es tu vida.
14 Do not fol ow the path of the wicked, do not walk the way that the evil go.	14 No te metas por la senda de los perversos, ni vayas por el camino de los malvados.
15 Avoid it, do not take it, turn your back on it, pass it by.	15 Evítalo, no pases por él, apártate de él, pasa adelante.
16 For they cannot sleep unless they have first done wrong, they miss their sleep if they have not madesomeone stumble;	16 Porque ésos no duermen si no obran el mal, se les quita el sueño si no han hecho caer a alguno.
17 for the bread of wickedness is what they eat, and the wine of violence is what they drink.	17 Es que su pan es pan de maldad, y vino de violencia es su bebida.
18 The path of the upright is like the light of dawn, its brightness growing to the ful ness of day;	18 La senda de los justos es como la luz del alba, que va en aumento hasta llegar a pleno día.
19 the way of the wicked is as dark as night, they cannot tel the obstacles they stumble over.	19 Pero el camino de los malos es como tinieblas, no saben dónde han tropezado.
20 My child, pay attention to what I am telling you, listen careful y to my words;	20 Atiende, hijo mío, a mis palabras, inclina tu oído a mis razones.
21 do not let them out of your sight, keep them deep in your heart.	21 No las apartes de tus ojos, guárdalas dentro de tu corazón.
22 For they are life to those who find them and health to al humanity.	22 Porque son vida para los que las encuentran, y curación para toda carne.
23 More than al else, keep watch over your heart, since here are the wel springs of life.	23 Por encima de todo cuidado, guarda tu corazón, porque de él brotan las fuentes de la vida.
24 Turn your back on the mouth that misleads, keep your distance from lips that deceive.	24 Aparta de ti la falsía de la boca y el enredo de los labios arrójalo de ti.
25 Let your eyes be fixed ahead, your gaze be straight before you.	25 Miren de frente tus ojos, tus párpados derechos a lo que está ante tí.
26 Let the path you tread be level and al your ways be firm.	26 Tantea bien el sendero de tus pies y sean firmes todos tus caminos.
27 Turn neither to right nor to left, keep your foot clear of evil.	27 No te tuerzas ni a derecha ni a izquierda, aparta tu pie de la maldad.
