1 Al eluia! Give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good, his faithful love is everlasting!	1 Celebrate il Signore, perchè figli è buono, perchè la sua misericordia dura in eterno.
2 Who can recount al Yahweh's triumphs, who can ful y voice his praise?	2 Lo dicano i redenti dal Signore, quelli che ha liberati dal potere del nemico, ha radunati da tutti i paesi:
3 How blessed are those who keep to what is just, whose conduct is always upright!	3 Dall'oriente e dall'occidente, dal settentrione e dal mare.
4 Remember me, Yahweh, in your love for your people. Come near to me with your saving power,	4 Andavan errando pel deserto, in aride lande, senza trovar la via di una città da abitare.
5 let me share the happiness of your chosen ones, let me share the joy of your people, the pride ofyour heritage.	5 Affamati ed assetati, si sentivan venire meno gli spiriti.
6 Like our ancestors, we have sinned, we have acted wickedly, guiltily;	6 Nella tribolazione gridarono al Signore, e li liberò dalle loro angustie.
7 our ancestors in Egypt never grasped the meaning of your wonders. They did not bear in mind yourcountless acts of love, at the Sea of Reeds they defied the Most High;	7 E li menò per la diritta via, in modo che giungessero a città da abitare.
8 but for the sake of his name he saved them, to make known his mighty power.	8 Celebrino il Signore le sue misericordie o le sue maraviglie in favore dei figli degli uomini.
9 At his rebuke the Sea of Reeds dried up, he let them pass through the deep as though it were desert,	9 Perchè Egli ha ripiena a sazietà l'anima vuota, e l'anima famelica l'ha saziata di beni.
10 so he saved them from their opponents' clutches, rescued them from the clutches of their enemies.	10 Sedevan nelle tenebre e nell'ombra di morte, prigionieri nella miseria e nelle catene;
11 The waters enveloped their enemies, not one of whom was left.	11 Perchè s'eran ribellati alle parole di Dio ed avevan disprezzati i consigli dell'Altissimo.
12 Then they believed what he had said, and sang his praises.	12 E fu umiliato negli affanni il loro cuore, rimasero senza forze, e non v'era chi li aiutasse.
13 But they soon forgot his achievements, they did not even wait for his plans;	13 Nella tribolazione gridarono al Signore, e li liberò dalle loro angustie.
14 they were overwhelmed with greed in the wastelands, in the solitary wastes they challenged God.	14 Li cavò dalle tenebre e dalle ombre di morte, e ne spezzò le catene.
15 He gave them al they asked for, but struck them with a deep wasting sickness;	15 Celebrino il Signore le sue misericordie e le sue maraviglie in favore dei figli degli uomini.
16 in the camp they grew jealous of Moses, and of Aaron, Yahweh's holy one.	16 Spezzò le porte di bronzo, infranse le sbarre di ferro.
17 The earth opened and swal owed up Dathan, closed in on Abiram's faction;	17 Li sollevò dalla via delle loro iniquità: erano stati umiliati per o le loro ingiustizie.
18 fire flamed out against their faction, the renegades were engulfed in flames.	18 Ogni cibo dava toro nausea, toccavan già le soglie della morte.
19 At Horeb they made a calf, bowed low before cast metal;	19 Nella tribolazione gridarono a al Signore e li liberò dalle loro angustie.

21 They forgot the God who was saving them, who had done great deeds in Egypt,	21 Celebrino il Signore le sue misericordie e le sue maraviglie in favore dei figli degli uomini.
22 such wonders in the land of Ham, such awesome deeds at the Sea of Reeds.	22 Offrano un sacrifizio di lode e celebrino giubilando le sue opere.
23 He thought of putting an end to them, had not Moses, his chosen one, taken a stand in the breachand confronted him, to turn his anger away from destroying them.	23 Coloro che solcano sopra navi il mare e van trafficando sopra le vaste onde,
24 They counted a desirable land for nothing, they put no trust in his promise;	24 Essi videro le opere del Signore, le sue maraviglie negli abissi.
25 they stayed in their tents and grumbled, they would not listen to Yahweh's voice.	25 Alla sua parola si levò il vento della tempesta, e ne furono sollevati i flutti del mare.
26 So he lifted his hand against them, to strike them down in the desert,	26 Sai ivano fino al cielo si sprofondavano fino all'abisso; la loro anima si struggeva nel pericolo.
27 to strike down their descendants among the nations, to scatter them al over the world.	27 Erano sbigottiti e barcollavano come briachi, tutto il loro sapere era ridotto al niente.
28 They committed themselves to serve Baal-Peor, and ate sacrifices made to lifeless gods.	28 Nella tribolazione gridarono al Signore, e li liberò dalle loro angustie.
29 They so provoked him by their actions that a plague broke out among them.	29 Mutò la tempesta in aura leggera, e i flutti del mare si tacquero:
30 Then up stood Phinehas to intervene, and the plague was checked;	30 Si rallegrarono della loro calma, ed Egli li condusse al porto da loro bramato.
31 for this he is the example of uprightness, from age to age for ever.	31 Celebrino il Signore le sue misericordie e le sue maraviglie in favore dei figli degli uomini.
32 At the waters of Meribah they so angered Yahweh, that Moses suffered on their account,	32 Lo esaltino nell'assemblea del popolo, lo lodino nel consesso degli anziani.
33 for they had embittered his spirit, and he spoke without due thought.	33 Egli ridusse i fiumi a deserti, le sorgenti d'acqua in arida landa;
34 They did not destroy the nations, as Yahweh had told them to do,	34 La terra fertile in campo di sale, per la malizia di chi vi abitava.
35 but intermarried with them, and adopted their ways.	35 Mutò i deserti in laghi, la terra arida in sorgenti d'acqua.
36 They worshipped those nations' false gods, til they found themselves entrapped,	36 E vi collocò gli affamati, che vi fondarono città da abitare.
37 and sacrificed their own sons and their daughters to demons.	37 Seminaron campi e piantarono vigne e ne ebbero frutti copiosi.
38 Innocent blood they shed, the blood of their sons and daughters; offering them to the idols ofCanaan, they pol uted the country with blood.	38 Egli li benedisse, e moltiplicarono grandemente, e non la sciò diminuire i loro bestiami.
39 They defiled themselves by such actions, their behaviour was that of a harlot.	39 Sono stati ridotti a pochi, depressi dallo strazio del male e dal dolore.
40 Yahweh's anger blazed out at his people, his own heritage fil ed him with disgust.	40 Il disprezzo era gettato sopra i capi: li aveva fatti errare per un deserto senza via.
41 He handed them over to the nations, and their opponents became their masters;	41 Ma Egli rialzò il povero dalla miseria, e ne moltiplicò le famiglie come greggi.
42 their enemies lorded it over them, crushing them under their rule.	42 Ciò vedranno i giusti e se ne rallegreranno, ed ogni iniquità chiuderà la sua bocca.
43 Time and again he rescued them, but they stil defied him deliberately, and sank ever deeper in theirguilt;	43 Chi da sapiente terrà a mente queste cose e considererà le misericordie del Signore?
44 even so he took pity on their distress, as soon as he heard them cry out.
45 Bearing his covenant with them in mind, he relented in his boundless and faithful love;
46 he ensured that they received compassion, in their treatment by al their captors.
47 Save us, Yahweh our God, gather us from among the nations, that we may give thanks to your holyname, and may glory in praising you.
48 Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel, from all eternity and for ever! Let all the people say, 'Amen'.
