NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Three months to the day after leaving Egypt, the Israelites reached the desert of Sinai.	1 El primer día del tercer mes, después de su salida de Egipto, los israelitas llegaron al desierto del Sinaí.
2 Setting out from Rephidim, they reached the desert of Sinai and pitched camp in the desert; there,facing the mountain, Israel pitched camp.	2 Habían partido de Refidim, y cuando llegaron al desierto del Sinaí, establecieron allí su campamento. Israel acampó frente a la montaña.
3 Moses then went up to God, and Yahweh cal ed to him from the mountain, saying, 'Say this to theHouse of Jacob! Tel the Israelites,	3 Moisés subió a encontrarse con Dios. El Señor lo llamó desde la montaña y le dijo: «Habla en estos términos a la casa de Jacob y anuncia este mensaje a los israelitas:
4 "You have seen for yourselves what I did to the Egyptians and how I carried you away on eagle'swings and brought you to me.	4 «Ustedes han visto cómo traté a Egipto, y cómo los conduje sobre alas de águila y los traje hasta mí.
5 So now, if you are real y prepared to obey me and keep my covenant, you, out of all peoples, shall bemy personal possession, for the whole world is mine.	5 Ahora, si escuchan mi voz y observan mi alianza, serán mi propiedad exclusiva entre todos los pueblos, porque toda la tierra me pertenece.
6 For me you shal be a kingdom of priests, a holy nation." Those are the words you are to say to theIsraelites.'	6 Ustedes serán para mí un reino de sacerdotes y una nación que me está consagrada». Estas son las palabras que transmitirás a los israelitas».
7 So Moses went and summoned the people's elders and acquainted them with everything that Yahwehhad bidden him,	7 Moisés fue a convocar a los ancianos de Israel y les expuso todas estas palabras, como el Señor se lo había ordenado.
8 and the people al replied with one accord, 'Whatever Yahweh has said, we will do.' Moses thenreported to Yahweh what the people had said.	8 El pueblo respondió unánimemente: «Estamos decididos a poner en práctica todo lo que ha dicho el Señor». Y Moisés comunicó al Señor la respuesta del pueblo.
9 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Look, I shal come to you in a dense cloud so that the people wil hearwhen I speak to you and believe you ever after.' Moses then told Yahweh what the people had said.	9 El Señor dijo a Moisés: «Yo vendré a encontrarme contigo en medio de una densa nube, para que el pueblo pueda escuchar cuando yo te hable. Así tendrá en ti una confianza a toda prueba». Y Moisés comunicó al Señor las palabras del pueblo.
10 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Go to the people and tel them to sanctify themselves today andtomorrow. They must wash their clothes	10 Luego añadió: «Ve adónde está el pueblo y ordénales que se purifiquen hoy y mañana. Que laven su ropa
11 and be ready for the day after tomorrow; for the day after tomorrow, in the sight of al the people,Yahweh wil descend on Mount Sinai.	11 y estén preparados para pasado mañana. Porque al tercer día el Señor descenderá sobre la montaña del Sinaí, a la vista de todo el pueblo.
12 You wil mark out the limits of the mountain and say, "Take care not to go up the mountain or to touchthe edge of it. Anyone who touches the mountain wil be put to death.	12 Fija también un límite alrededor del pueblo, haciendo esta advertencia: «Cuídense de subir a la montaña y hasta de tocar sus bordes, porque todo el que toque la montaña será castigado con la muerte.
13 No one may lay a hand on him: he must be stoned or shot by arrow; whether man or beast, he shalnot live." When the ram's horn sounds a long blast, they must go up the mountain.'	13 Pero nadie pondrá su mano sobre el culpable, sino que deberá ser apedreado o muerto a flechazos; sea hombre o animal, no quedará vivo. Y cuando suene la trompeta, ellos subirán a la montaña».
14 So Moses came down from the mountain to the people; he made the people sanctify themselves andthey washed their clothes.	14 Moisés bajó de la montaña y ordenó al pueblo que se sometiera a las purificaciones rituales. Todos lavaron su ropa,
15 He then said to the people, 'Be ready for the day after tomorrow; do not touch a woman.'	15 y luego les dijo: «Estén preparados para pasado mañana. Mientras tanto, absténganse de tener relaciones sexuales».
16 Now at daybreak two days later, there were peals of thunder and flashes of lightning, dense cloud onthe mountain and a very loud trumpet blast; and, in the camp, al the people trembled.	16 Al amanecer del tercer día, hubo truenos y relámpagos, una densa nube cubrió la montaña y se oyó un fuerte sonido de trompeta. Todo el pueblo que estaba en el campamento se estremeció de temor.
17 Then Moses led the people out of the camp to meet God; and they took their stand at the bottom ofthe mountain.	17 Moisés hizo salir al pueblo del campamento para ir al encuentro de Dios, y todos se detuvieron al pie de la montaña.
18 Mount Sinai was entirely wrapped in smoke, because Yahweh had descended on it in the form of fire.The smoke rose like smoke from a furnace and the whole mountain shook violently.	18 La montaña del Sinaí estaba cubierta de humo, porque el Señor había bajado a ella en el fuego. El humo se elevaba como el de un horno, y toda la montaña temblaba violentamente.
19 Louder and louder grew the trumpeting. Moses spoke, and God answered him in the thunder.	19 El sonido de la trompeta se hacía cada vez más fuerte. Moisés hablaba, y el Señor le respondía con el fragor del trueno.
20 Yahweh descended on Mount Sinai, on the top of the mountain, and Yahweh cal ed Moses to the topof the mountain; and Moses went up.	20 El Señor bajó a la montaña del Sinaí, a la cumbre de la montaña, y ordenó a Moisés que subiera a la cumbre. Moisés subió,
21 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Go down and warn the people not to break through to look at Yahweh,or many of them wil perish.	21 y el Señor le dijo: «Baja y ordena al pueblo que no traspase los límites para ver al Señor, porque muchos de ellos perderían la vida.
22 Even the priests, who do have access to Yahweh, must sanctify themselves, or Yahweh may burstout against them.'	22 Incluso los sacerdotes que se acerquen al Señor deberán purificarse, para que el Señor no les quite la vida».
23 Moses said to Yahweh, 'The people cannot come up Mount Sinai, since you yourself warned us tomark out the limits of the mountain and declare it sacred.'	23 Moisés le respondió: «El pueblo no se atreverá a subir a la montaña del Sinaí, porque tú se lo prohibiste cuando mandaste poner un límite alrededor de la montaña declarada sagrada».
24 Yahweh said, 'Away with you! Go down! Then come back bringing Aaron with you. But do not al owthe priests and people to break through to come up to Yahweh, or he may burst out against them.'	24 El Señor le dijo: «Baja enseguida y vuelve después en compañía de Aarón. Pero que los sacerdotes y el pueblo no traspasen los límites para subir adonde está el Señor, no sea que él les quite la vida».
25 So Moses went down to the people and spoke to them.	25 Moisés bajó adonde estaba el pueblo y les dijo todas esas cosas.
