NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 When the uproar of those crowding round the council had subsided, Holofernes, general-in-chief of theAssyrian army, reprimanded Achior in front of the whole crowd of foreigners and Ammonites.	1 Calmado el tumulto provocado por los hombres que estaban en torno al Consejo. Holofernes, jefe supremo del ejército de Asiria, dijo a Ajior delante de todos los pueblos extranjeros y de los moabitas:
2 'Achior, who do you think you are, you and the Ephraimite mercenaries, playing the prophet like this withus today, and trying to dissuade us from making war on the people of Israel? You claim their God wil protectthem. And who is God if not Nebuchadnezzar? He himself wil display his power and wipe them off the face ofthe earth, and their God wil certainly not save them.	2 «¿Quién eres tú, Ajior, y quiénes los mercenarios de Ammón, que te permites hoy lanzar profecías entre nosotros y nos aconsejas que no luchemos contra esta ralea de Israel, porque su Dios los cubrirá con su escudo? ¿Qué otro dios hay fuera de Nabucodonosor? Este enviará su fuerza y los aniquilará de sobre la faz de la tierra, sin que su Dios pueda librarlos.
3 But we, his servants, shal destroy them as easily as a single individual. They can never resist thestrength of our cavalry.	3 Nosotros, sus siervos, los batiremos como si fueran sólo un hombre,
4 We shal burn them all. Their mountains will be drunk with their blood and their plains filled with theircorpses. Far from being able to resist us, every one of them wil die; thus says King Nebuchadnezzar, lord of thewhole world. For he has spoken, and his words will not prove empty.	4 y no podrán resistir el empuje de nuestros caballos. Los pasaremos a fuego sin distinción. Sus montes se embriagarán de su sangre y sus llanuras se colmarán con sus cadáveres. No podrán mantenerse a pie firme ante nosotros y serán totalmente destruidos, dice el rey Nabucodonosor, Señor de toda la tierra. Porque lo ha dicho y no quedarán sin cumplimiento sus palabras.
5 As for you, Achior, you Ammonite mercenary, who in a rash moment said these words, you wil not seemy face again until the day when I have taken my revenge on this brood from Egypt.	5 Cuanto a ti, Ajior, mercenario ammonita, que has dicho estas palabras el día de tu iniquidad, a partir de ahora no verás ya mi rostro hasta el día en que tome venganza de esa ralea venida de Egipto.
6 And then the swords of my soldiers and the spears of my officers wil pierce your sides. You wil falamong their wounded, the moment I turn on Israel.	6 Entonces, el hierro de mis soldados y la lanza de mis servidores te atravesará los costados y caerás junto a sus heridos, cuando yo me revuelva contra ellos.
7 My servants wil now take you into the hill-country and leave you near one of the towns in the passes;	7 Mis servidores te van a llevar a la montaña y te van a dejar en una de las ciudades que están en las subidas.
8 you wil not die, until you share their ruin.	8 No perecerás sino cuando seas aniquilado justo con ellos.
9 No need to look so sad if you cherish the secret hope that they wil not be captured! I have spoken; noneof my words will prove idle.'	9 Y no muestres un rostro tan abatido ya que en tu corazón esperas que no serán conquistados. Así lo digo y no dejará de cumplirse ni una sola de mis palabras».
10 Holofernes having commanded his tent-orderlies to seize Achior, to take him to Bethulia and to handhim over to the Israelites,	10 Holofernes ordenó a los servidores que estaban al servicio de su tienda que tomasen a Ajior, lo llevasen a Betulia y lo entregasen en manos de los israelitas.
11 the orderlies took him, escorted him out of the camp and across the plain, and then, making for the hil -country, reached the springs below Bethulia.	11 Los servidores le agarraron y le condujeron fuera del campamento, a la llanura; y de la llanura abierta pasaron a la región montañosa, alcanzando las fuentes que había al pie de Betulia.
12 As soon as the men of the town sighted them, they snatched up their weapons, left the town and madefor the mountain tops, while al the slingers pelted them with stones to prevent them from coming up.	12 Cuando los hombres de la ciudad los divisaron desde la cumbre del monte, corrieron a las armas y salieron fuera de la ciudad, a la cumbre del monte, mientras los honderos dominaban la subida y disparaban sus piedras contra ellos.
13 However, they managed to take cover at the foot of the slope, where they bound Achior and left himlying at the bottom of the mountain and returned to their master.	13 Entonces los asirios se deslizaron al pie del monte, ataron a Ajior, lo dejaron tendido en la falda y se volvieron donde su señor.
14 The Israelites then came down from their town, stopped by him, unbound him and took him to Bethulia,where they brought him before the chief men of the town,	14 Los israelitas bajaron de su ciudad, se acercaron y desatándole le llevaron a Betulia y le presentaron a los jefes de la ciudad,
15 who at that time were Uzziah son of Micah of the tribe of Simeon, Chabris son of Gothoniel andCharmis son of Melchiel.	15 que en aquel tiempo eran Ozías, hijo de Miqueas, de la tribu de Simeón, Jabrís, hijo de Gotoniel, y Jarmís, hijo de Melkiel.
16 These summoned al the elders of the town. The young men and the women also hurried to theassembly. Achior was made to stand with al the people surrounding him, and Uzziah questioned him about whathad happened.	16 Estos mandaron convocar a todos los ancianos de la ciudad. Se unieron también a la asamblea todos lo jóvenes y las mujeres; pusieron a Ajior en medio de todo el pueblo y Ozías le interrogó acerca de los sucedido.
17 He answered by tel ing them what had been said at Holofernes' council, and what he himself had saidin the presence of the Assyrian leaders, and how Holofernes had bragged of what he would do to the House ofIsrael.	17 Ajior respondió narrándoles las deliberaciones habidas en el Consejo de Holofernes, todas las cosas que él mismo había dicho delante de todos los jefes de los asirios y las bravatas que Holofernes había proferido contra la casa de Israel.
18 At this the people fel to the ground and worshipped God.	18 Entonces el pueblo se postró, adoró a Dios y clamó:
19 'Lord God of heaven,' they cried, 'take notice of their arrogance and have pity on the humiliation of ourrace. Look kindly today on those who are consecrated to you.'	19 «Señor, Dios del cielo, mira su soberbia, compadécete de la humillación de nuestra raza y mira con piedad el rostro de los que te están consagrados».
20 They then spoke reassuringly to Achior and praised him warmly.	20 Después dieron ánimos a Ajior y le felicitaron calurosamente,
21 After the assembly Uzziah took him home and gave a banquet for the elders; al that night they cal edon the God of Israel for help.	21 y a la salida de la asamblea, Ozías le condujo a su propia casa y ofreció un banquete a los ancianos. Y estuvieron invocando la ayuda del Dios de Israel durante toda la noche.
