1 Break into song for my God, to the tambourine, sing in honour of the Lord, to the cymbal, let psalm andcanticle mingle for him, extol his name, invoke it!	1 Allora Giuditta cantò questo cantico al Signore, e disse:
2 For the Lord is a God who breaks battle-lines; he has pitched his camp in the middle of his people todeliver me from the hands of my oppressors.	2 « Cominciate a lodare il Signore coi timpani, celebrate il Signore coi cembali, intonate a lui un nuovo cantico, esaltate e invocate il suo nome.
3 Assyria came down from the mountains of the north, came with tens of thousands of his army. Theirmultitude blocked the ravines, their horses covered the hil s.	3 Il Signore stritola gli eserciti: egli si chiama il Signore.

14 May your whole creation serve you! For you spoke and things came into being, you sent your breathand they were put together, and no one can resist your voice.	14 I figli di giovani spose li han trafitti, li hanno uccisi come fanciulli in preda alla fuga. Così son periti nella battaglia davanti alla faccia del Signore mio Dio.
15 Should mountains be tossed from their foundations to mingle with the waves, should rocks melt likewax before your face, to those who fear you, you would stil be merciful.	15 Cantiamo un inno al Signore, un inno nuovo cantiamo al Signore Dio nostro.
16 A little thing indeed is a sweetly smel ing sacrifice, stil less the fat burned for you in burnt offering; butwhoever fears the Lord is great for ever.	16 Adonai, Signore, tu sei grande, magnifico nella tua possanza, nessuno può superarti.
17 Woe to the nations who rise against my race! The Lord Almighty wil punish them on judgement day.He will send fire and worms in their flesh and they wil weep with pain for evermore.	17 A te obbediscano tutte le tue creature, perchè parlasti e furori fatte, mandasti il tuo spirito e furon create: nessuno può resistere alla tua voce.
18 When they reached Jerusalem they fel on their faces before God and, once the people had beenpurified, they presented their burnt offerings, voluntary offerings and gifts.	18 Si scoteranno dai i fondamenti i monti e i mari, le i pietre qual cera si struggeranno davanti alla tua faccia;
19 Al Holofernes' property given her by the people, and the canopy she herself had stripped from hisbed, Judith vowed to God as a dedicated offering.	19 ma quelli che ti temono saranno grandi dinanzi a te in tutto.
20 For three months the people gave themselves up to rejoicings in front of the Temple in Jerusalem,where Judith stayed with them.	20 Guai alla nazione che si leva contro il mio popolo; il Signore onnipotente si vendicherà di essa, e la visiterà nel giorno del giudizio;
21 When this was over, everyone returned home. Judith went back to Bethulia and lived on her property;as long as she lived, she enjoyed a great reputation throughout the country.	21 egli farà entrare il fuoco e i vermi nelle loro carni, li farà ardere e straziare in eterno ».

25 Never again during the lifetime of Judith, nor indeed for a long time after her death, did anyone troublethe Israelites.	25 Finiti quei giorni, ciascuno se ne tornò a casa sua e Giuditta divenne grande in Betulia, e la più illustre di tutto il paese d'Israele,
	26 perchè alla virtù univa la castità, in modo che non conobbe uomo in tutto il tempo della sua vita, dopo la morte del suo marito Manasse.
	27 Ai giorni di festa essa compariva con molta gloria.
	28 Stette nella casa del suo marito fino ai centocinque anni, diede la libertà alla sua serva, e quando morì fu sepolta col suo marito in Betulia,
	29 e fu pianta da tutto il popolo per sette giorni.
	30 Per tutto il tempo della sua vita e per molti anni dopo la sua morte non venne nessuno a turbare Israele.
	31 Il giorno di festa per la sua vittoria fu messo dagli Ebrei nel numero dei giorni santi ed è dai Giudei onorato da quel tempo fino ad oggi.
