Tobit 14

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 The end of the hymns of Tobit. Tobit died when he was a hundred and twelve years old and receivedan honourable burial in Nineveh.	1 Fin des hymnes de Tobit. Tobit mourut en paix à l'âge de 112 ans, et il fut enterré à Ninive avechonneur.
2 He had been sixty-two when he went blind; and after his cure, he lived in comfort, practisingalmsgiving and continual y praising God and extol ing his greatness.	2 Il avait 62 ans quand il devint aveugle; et, depuis sa guérison, il vécut dans l'abondance, il pratiqual'aumône, et il continua toujours à bénir Dieu et à célébrer sa grandeur.
3 When he was at the point of death he summoned his son Tobias and gave him these instructions,	3 Sur le point de mourir, il fit venir son fils Tobie, et lui donna ses instructions: "Mon fils, emmène tesenfants,
4 'My son, take your children and hurry away to Media, since I believe the word of God pronounced overNineveh by Nahum. Everything wil come true, everything happen that the emissaries of God, the prophets ofIsrael, have predicted against Assyria and Nineveh; not one of their words wil prove empty. It will al take placein due time. You wil be safer in Media than in Assyria or in Babylonia. Since I for my part know and believe thateverything God has said wil come true; so it will be, and not a word of the prophecies will fail. 'A census will betaken of our brothers living in the land of Israel and they wil be exiled far from their own fair country. The entireterritory of Israel wil become a desert, and Samaria and Jerusalem wil become a desert, and the house of God,for a time, wil be laid waste and burnt.	4 cours en Médie, parce que je crois à la parole de Dieu que Nahum a dite sur Ninive. Touts'accomplira, tout se réalisera, de ce que les prophètes d'Israël, que Dieu a envoyés, ont annoncé contre l'Assyrieet contre Ninive; rien ne sera retranché de leurs paroles. Tout arrivera en son temps. On sera plus à l'abri enMédie qu'en Assyrie et qu'en Babylonie. Parce que je sais et je crois, moi, que tout ce que Dieu a dits'accomplira, cela sera, et il ne tombera pas un mot des prophéties. Nos frères qui habitent le pays d'Israël seronttous recensés et déportés loin de leur belle patrie. Tout le sol d'Israël sera un désert. Et Samarie et Jérusalemseront un désert. Et la Maison de Dieu sera, pour un temps, désolée et brûlée.
5 Then once again God wil take pity on them and bring them back to the land of Israel. They wil rebuildhis house, although it wil be less beautiful than the first, until the time is fulfil ed. But after this, al will return fromcaptivity and rebuild Jerusalem in al her glory, and the house of God wil be rebuilt within her as the prophets of Israel have foretold.	5 Puis de nouveau, Dieu en aura pitié, et il les ramènera au pays d'Israël. Ils rebâtiront sa Maison,moins belle que la première, en attendant que les temps soient révolus. Mais alors, tous revenus de leur captivité,ils rebâtiront Jérusalem dans sa magnificence, et en elle la Maison de Dieu sera rebâtie, comme l'ont annoncé lesprophètes d'Israël.
6 And all the people of the whole earth wil be converted and wil reverence God with all sincerity. Al willrenounce their false gods who have led them astray into error,	6 Et tous les peuples de la terre entière se convertiront, et ils craindront Dieu en vérité. Tous, ilsrépudieront leurs faux dieux, qui les ont fait s'égarer dans l'erreur.
7 and will bless the God of ages in uprightness. Al the Israelites spared in those days wil rememberGod in sincerity of heart. They wil come and gather in Jerusalem and thereafter dwel securely in the land ofAbraham, which will be theirs. And those who sincerely love God wil rejoice. And those who commit sin andwickedness will vanish from the earth.	7 Et ils béniront le Dieu des siècles dans la justice. Tous les Israélites, épargnés en ces jours-là, sesouviendront de Dieu avec sincérité. Ils viendront se rassembler à Jérusalem, et désormais ils habiteront la terred'Abraham en sécurité, et elle sera leur propriété. Et ceux-là se réjouiront, qui aiment Dieu en vérité. Et ceux-làdisparaîtront de la terre, qui accomplissent le péché et l'injustice.
8 'And now, my children, I lay this duty on you; serve God sincerely, and do what is pleasing to him. Andlay on your children the obligation to behave uprightly, to give alms, to keep God in mind and to bless his namealways, sincerely and with all their might.	8 Et maintenant, mes enfants, je vous en fais un devoir, servez Dieu en vérité, et faites ce qui lui plaît.Imposez à vos enfants l'obligation de faire la justice et l'aumône, de se souvenir de Dieu, de bénir son Nom entout temps, en vérité, et de toutes leurs forces.
9 'So then, my son, leave Nineveh, do not stay here.	9 Alors, toi, mon fils, quitte Ninive, ne reste pas ici.
10 As soon as you have buried your mother next to me, go the same day, whenever it may be, and donot linger in this country where I see wickedness and perfidy unashamedly triumphant. Consider, my child, althe things done by Nadab to his foster-father Ahikar. Was not Ahikar forced to go underground, though still aliving man? But God made the criminal pay for his outrage before his victim's eyes, since Ahikar came back tothe light of day, while Nadab went down to everlasting darkness in punishment for plotting against Ahikar's life.Because of his good works Ahikar escaped the deadly snare Nadab had laid for him, and Nadab fel into it to hisown ruin.	10 Dès que tu auras enterré ta mère auprès de moi, pars le jour même, quel qu'il soit, et ne demeureplus dans ce pays, où je vois triompher sans vergogne la perfidie et l'iniquité. Regarde, mon enfant, tout ce qu'afait Nadab à son père nourricier, Ahikar. Ne fut-il pas réduit à descendre vivant sous la terre? Mais Dieu a faitpayer son infamie au criminel, à la face de sa victime, parce que Ahikar revint à la lumière, tandis que Nadabentra dans les ténèbres éternelles, en châtiment de son dessein contre la vie d'Ahikar. A cause de ses bonnesoeuvres, Ahikar échappa au filet mortel que lui avait tendu Nadab, et Nadab y tomba pour sa perte.
11 So, my children, you see what comes of almsgiving, and what wickedness leads to, I mean to death.But now breath fails me.' They laid him back on his bed; he died and was buried with honour.	11 Ainsi, mes enfants, voyez où mène l'aumône, et où conduit l'iniquité, c'est-à-dire à la mort. Mais lesouffle me manque." Ils l'étendirent sur le lit, il mourut, et il fut enterré avec honneur.
12 When his mother died, Tobias buried her beside his father. Then he left for Media with his wife andchildren. He lived in Ecbatana with Raguel, his father-in-law.	12 Quand sa mère mourut, Tobie l'enterra auprès de son père. Puis il partit pour la Médie, avec safemme et ses enfants. Il habita Ecbatane, chez Ragouël son beau-père.
13 He treated the ageing parents of his wife with every care and respect, and later buried them inEcbatana in Media. Tobias inherited the patrimony of Raguel besides that of his father Tobit.	13 Il entoura la vieillesse de ses beaux-parents de respect et d'attention, puis il les enterra à Ecbatanede Médie. Tobie héritait du patrimoine de Ragouël, comme de celui de son père Tobit.
14 Much honoured, he lived to the age of a hundred and seventeen years.	14 Il vécut honoré jusqu'à l'âge de 117 ans.
15 Before he died he witnessed the ruin of Nineveh. He saw the Ninevites taken prisoner and deportedto Media by Cyaxares king of Media. He blessed God for everything he inflicted on the Ninevites and Assyrians.Before his death he had the opportunity of rejoicing over the fate of Nineveh, and he blessed the Lord God forever and ever. Amen.	15 Il fut témoin de la ruine de Ninive avant de mourir. Il vit les Ninivites prisonniers et déportés enMédie par Cyaxare, roi de Médie. Il bénit Dieu de tout ce qu'il infligea aux Ninivites et aux Assyriens. Avant samort, il put se réjouir du sort de Ninive, et bénir le Seigneur Dieu dans les siècles des siècles. Amen.
