Nehemiah 6

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 When Sanbal at, Tobiah, Geshem the Arab and our other enemies heard that I had rebuilt the wal andthat not a single gap was left -- though at that time I had not fixed the doors to the gates-	1 Cuando Sambalat, Tobías, Guésem, el árabe, y los demás enemigos nuestros supieron que yo había reconstruido las murallas y que no quedaba en ellas ninguna brecha –aunque hasta entonces no había colocado las hojas de las puertas–
2 Sanbal at and Geshem sent me this message, 'Come and meet us at Ha-Chephirim in the Vale of Ono.'But they had evil designs on me.	2 Sambalat y Guésem mandaron a decirme: «Ven a entrevistarte con nosotros en Quefirím, en el valle de Onó». Pero, en realidad, lo que se proponían era hacerme el mal.
3 So I sent messengers to them to say, 'I am engaged in a great undertaking, so I cannot come down.Why should the work stop while I leave it and come down to you?'	3 Entonces les envié unos mensajeros para decirles: «Tengo muchísimo trabajo, y no puedo bajar. ¿Por qué va a suspenderse la obra mientras yo la abandono por bajar a verlos?».
4 Four times they sent me the same invitation and I made them the same reply.	4 Cuatro veces me hicieron la misma invitación, y siempre les di la misma respuesta.
5 The fifth time, with the same purpose in mind, Sanballat sent me his servant bearing an open letter.	5 Por quinta vez, Sambalat me mandó a decir lo mismo por medio de su servidor, que traía en la mano una carta abierta.
6 It ran, 'There is a rumour among the nations -- and Gashmu confirms it -- that you and the Jews arethinking of rebel ing, which is why you are rebuilding the wal , and you intend to become their king;	6 En ella estaba escrito: «Se oye decir entre la gente –y lo confirma Gasmú– que tú y los judíos piensan sublevarse, y por eso reconstruyes las murallas. Según esos rumores, tú vas a ser su rey,
7 and that you have even briefed prophets to acclaim you in Jerusalem with the cry, "There is a king inJudah!" Now, these rumours are going to reach the king; so you had better come and discuss them with us.'	7 e incluso has establecido profetas para que proclamen en Jerusalén, refiriéndose a ti: «¡Hay un rey en Judá!». Y ahora el rey va a ser informado de todo esto. Ven, entonces, y pongámonos de acuerdo».
8 To this I sent him the fol owing reply, 'As regards what you say, nothing of the sort has occurred; it is afigment of your own imagination.'	8 Yo le mandé a decir: «No ha sucedido nada de lo que tú dices, sino que son puras invenciones tuyas».
9 For they were all trying to terrorise us, thinking, 'They wil become demoralised over the work and it wilnot get finished.' But my morale rose even higher.	9 En realidad, lo que ellos querían eran intimidarnos, pensando: «Sus manos se cansarán de trabajar, y la obra no se realizará». ¡Y ahora, Señor, fortalece mis manos!
10 Then, when I went to visit Shemaiah son of Delaiah, son of Mehetabel, since he was prevented fromcoming to me, he said: We must gather at the Temple of God, inside the sanctuary itself; we must shut thesanctuary doors, for they are coming to kil you, they are coming to kil you tonight!	10 Entonces fui a la casa de Semaías, hijo de Delaías, hijo de Mehetabel, que se hallaba impedido, y él dijo: «Encontrémonos en la Casa de Dios, en el interior del Templo, y cerremos sus puertas; porque van a venir a matarte y esta es la noche en que vendrán a hacerlo».
11 But I retorted, 'Should a man like me run away? Would a man like me go into the Temple to save hislife? I shal not go in!'	11 Yo repliqué: «¿Va a huir un hombre como yo? ¿Y qué hombre de mi condición podría entrar en el Templo y permanecer con vida? ¡No entraré!».
12 I realised that God had not sent him to say this, but that he had produced this prophecy for mebecause Tobiah was paying him	12 Yo había reconocido, en efecto, que no era Dios el que lo había enviado: si había pronunciado esa profecía acerca de mí, era porque lo había enviado Tobías.
13 to terrorise me into doing as he said and committing a sin, so that they would have grounds forblackening my reputation and blaming me.	13 Lo habían sobornado para que yo me dejara intimidar y, obrando de esa manera, cometiera un pecado. Así me habrían infamado, para cubrirme de oprobio.
14 Remember Tobiah, my God, for what he did; and Noadiah the prophetess, and the other prophetswho tried to terrorise me.	14 Acuérdate, Dios mío, de Tobías, por lo que hizo, y también de Noadías, la profetisa, y de todos los demás profetas que trataban de intimidarme.
15 The wall was finished within fifty-two days, on the twenty-fifth of Elul.	15 Las murallas quedaron terminadas el día veinticinco de Elul, al cabo de cincuenta y dos días.
16 When al our enemies heard about it and al the surrounding nations saw it, they thought it a wonderful thing, because they realised that this work had been accomplished by the power of our God.	16 Cuando todos nuestros enemigos se enteraron, todas las naciones vecinas quedaron vivamente impresionadas; se sintieron muy humilladas a sus propios ojos y reconocieron que el trabajo había sido ejecutado gracias a nuestro Dios.
17 During this same period, the nobles of Judah kept sending letter after letter to Tobiah, and letters fromTobiah kept arriving for them;	17 Aun en aquellos días, algunos notables de Judá se carteaban frecuentemente con Tobías,
18 for he had many sworn to his interest in Judah, since he was son-in-law to Shecaniah son of Arah,and his son Jehohanan had married the daughter of Meshul am son of Berechiah.	18 porque estaban ligados a él por un juramento, ya que era yerno de Secanías, hijo de Ará, y su hijo Iojanán se había casado con la hija de Mesulam, hijo de Berequías.
19 They even cried up his good deeds in my presence, and they reported what I said back to him. AndTobiah kept sending letters to terrorise me.	19 Ellos hablaban bien de él en mi presencia y le transmitían mis palabras. Tobías, por su parte, enviaba cartas para intimidarme.
