NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 After these loyal actions, Sennacherib king of Assyria advanced and invaded Judah, and laid siege tothe fortified towns, intending to demolish them.	1 - Dopo queste cose e questi atti di fedeltà, Sennacherib, re degli Assiri, venne e, entrato in Giudea, assediò le città fortificate con l'intenzione d'impadronirsene.
2 Hezekiah, realising that Sennacherib's advance was the preliminary to an attack on Jerusalem,	2 Quando Ezechia vide che Sennacherib era giunto e che tutto l'impeto della guerra si rivolgeva verso Gerusalemme,
3 consulted his officers and warriors about sealing off the waters of the springs outside the city, and theysupported him.	3 tenne consiglio coi suoi capi e co' suoi uomini valorosi per chiudere le sorgenti d'acqua, ch'erano fuori della città; ed essendo tutti dello stesso parere,
4 So a large number of people were cal ed out to block al the springs and cut off the watercourseflowing through the country. 'Why', they said, 'should the kings of Assyria find plenty of water when they arrive?'	4 raccolsero molta gente e turarono tutte le fonti e il ruscello, che scorreva in mezzo al paese, dicendo: «[Facciamo ciò] affinchè i re d'Assiria, giungendo in mezzo a noi, non trovino abbondanza di acque».
5 Acting with determination, he also repaired al the damaged parts of the wal , built towers on it,constructed a second wal on the outer side, strengthened the Mil o of the City of David and made quantities ofmissiles and shields.	5 Parimenti, operando con grande diligenza, riparò tutto il muro che era stato distrutto, costruì torri sopra di esso e fabbricò un secondo muro al di fuori; restaurò Mello nella città di Davide e fece armature e scudi d'ogni sorta;
6 He then appointed generals to command the people, summoned them to him in the square by the citygate and spoke as fol ows to encourage them,	6 costituì i capi dei guerrieri nell'esercito; riunì tutti sulla piazza della porta della città e parlò al loro cuore dicendo:
7 'Be strong and brave; do not be afraid or tremble when you face the king of Assyria and the wholehorde he brings with him, for there are more on our side than on his.	7 «Operate da forti e fatevi animo; non temete e non abbiate paura del re degli Assiri, nè della moltitudine che è con lui, perchè sono assai più quelli che stanno dalla nostra parte, che dalla sua;
8 He has only human strength, but we have Yahweh our God to help us and fight our battles.' Thepeople took heart at the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.	8 dalla sua, vi è un braccio di carne; dalla nostra, il Signore Dio nostro, che è il nostro aiuto e combatte per noi». E il popolo fu rassicurato da queste parole di Ezechia, re di Giuda.
9 Next, Sennacherib king of Assyria, who was then besieging Lachish with all his forces, sent hisrepresentatives to Jerusalem, to Hezekiah king of Judah, and al Judah at Jerusalem, with the fol owingmessage,	9 Dopo questi avvenimenti Sennacherib, re degli Assiri, mandò i suoi servi a Gerusalemme, (poichè egli e tutto il suo esercito stava assediando Lachis), ad Ezechia, re di Giuda, e a tutto il popolo, che era nella città, per dire ad essi:
10 'Sennacherib king of Assyria says this, "What gives you the confidence to remain in the fortress ofJerusalem?	10 «Sennacherib, re degli Assiri, dice queste cose: - In chi confidate voi per starvene così assediati in Gerusalemme?
11 Isn't Hezekiah deluding you, only to condemn you to die of famine and thirst, when he says: Yahwehour God wil save us from the King of Assyria's clutches?	11 Non vi inganna forse Ezechia per farvi morir di fame e di sete, quando afferma che il Signore Dio vostro vi libererà dalla mano del re di Assiria?
12 Isn't Hezekiah the very man who has suppressed his high places and altars, and given the order toJudah and to Jerusalem: You must worship before one altar and on that alone offer incense?	12 Non è questi lo stesso Ezechia che distrusse i suoi luoghi eccelsi e gli altari e intimò e disse a quei di Giuda e di Gerusalemme: "Adorerete dinanzi a un solo altare e sovr'esso brucerete l'incenso?"
13 Don't you know what I and my ancestors have done to al the peoples of the other countries? Havethe national gods of those countries had the slightest success in saving their countries from my clutches?	13 Ignorate forse ciò che io ho fatto e ciò che fecero i padri miei a tutti i popoli della terra? Furono capaci gli dèi delle genti e di tutti i paesi di liberare la loro regione dalla mia mano?
14 Of al the gods of those nations whom my ancestors devoted to destruction, which one has been ableto save his people from my clutches, for your god to be able to save you from my clutches?	14 Chi è di tutti gli dèi delle nazioni, che i padri miei han devastato, che potè sottrarre il suo popolo dalla mia mano? E potrà il Dio vostro sottrarvi a questa mano?
15 Do not let Hezekiah mislead you. Do not let him delude you like this. Do not believe him, for no godof any nation or kingdom has been able to save his people from me or from my ancestors' clutches. No more wilyour god be able to save you from my clutches." '	15 Or dunque Ezechia non v'inganni e non v'illuda con vane lusinghe, e voi non prestate fede a lui, poichè se nessuno degli dèi di tutte le nazioni e di tutti i regni ha potuto liberare il suo popolo dalla mia mano e dalla mano de' padri miei, quanto meno il vostro Dio potrà strapparvi al mio potere - ».
16 And his representatives said a great deal more, maligning Yahweh God, and his servant Hezekiah.	16 Molte altre cose dissero pure i servi di lui contro il Signore Iddio e contro Ezechia suo servo.
17 He also wrote a letter to insult Yahweh, God of Israel, maligning him as follows, 'Just as the nationalgods of the other countries could not save their peoples from my clutches, so Hezekiah's god cannot save hispeople from my clutches.'	17 Scrisse anche lettere piene di bestemmia contro il Signore Dio di Israele, esprimendosi così contro di lui: «Come gli dèi delle altre nazioni non han potuto liberare il loro popolo dalla mia mano, così neppure il Dio di Ezechia potrà sottrarre il popolo suo da questa mano».
18 They then shouted loudly in the Judaean language to the people of Jerusalem on the ramparts tofrighten and confuse them, in the hope of capturing the city,	18 Inoltre con voce altissima, in lingua giudaica gridava contro il popolo che stava assiso sulle mura di Gerusalemme per spaventarlo e prendere così la città.
19 maligning the God of Jerusalem as though he were one of the man-made gods of other peoples inthe world.	19 E parlò contro il Dio di Gerusalemme, come contro gli dèi dei popoli della terra, opera della mano degli uomini.
20 Then King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz prayed and cried out to Heaven about this,	20 Ma il re Ezechia e il profeta Isaia, figlio di Amos, si misero a pregare contro questa bestemmia e la loro voce arrivò fino al cielo,
21 and Yahweh sent an angel who destroyed every warrior, commander and officer in the king ofAssyria's camp. So he had to retire shamefacedly to his own country and when he went into the temple of hisgod, some of his own sons there struck him down with the sword.	21 e il Signore mandò un angelo a percuotere ogni uomo robusto e ogni combattente e il sommo duce dell'esercito del re degli Assiri, e [il re] se ne tornò svergognato al suo paese. E quando fu entrato nella casa del suo dio, i suoi propri figli, che egli aveva generato, lo trucidarono colla spada,
22 So Yahweh saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the clutches of Sennacherib kingof Assyria and of everyone else, and gave them peace on every side.	22 mentre il Signore salvò Ezechia e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme dalla mano di Sennacherib, re degli Assiri, e dalla mano di tutti gli altri e concesse ad essi la pace da tutte le parti.
23 Many people then brought gifts to Yahweh in Jerusalem and valuable presents to Hezekiah king ofJudah; from then on, all the other nations held him in high esteem.	23 Molti allora portavano vittime e sacrifici al Signore in Gerusalemme e regali ad Ezechia, re di Giuda, il quale dopo questi avvenimenti fu tenuto in grande considerazione da tutti i popoli.
24 About then Hezekiah fel il and was at the point of death. He prayed to Yahweh, who heard him andgranted him a sign.	24 In quel tempo Ezechia si ammalò a morte e pregò il Signore e fu esaudito, e ne ebbe anche un segnale.
25 But Hezekiah made no return for the benefit which he had received; he became proud and broughtretribution on himself and on Judah and Jerusalem.	25 Ma non corrispose pienamente ai benefici ricevuti, poichè il suo cuore si inorgoglì, e l'ira [del Signore] si accese contro di lui e contro Giuda e Gerusalemme.
26 Then, however, Hezekiah did humble himself in his pride, and so did the inhabitants of Jerusalem; asa result of which, Yahweh's retribution did not overtake them during Hezekiah's lifetime.	26 Ma poi si umiliò di essersi così inorgoglito tanto lui, come gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, perciò l'ira del Signore non piombò sopra di loro al tempo di Ezechia.
27 Hezekiah enjoyed immense riches and honour. He built himself treasuries for gold, silver, preciousstones, spices, jewels and every kind of desirable object,	27 Ezechia fu assai ricco e molto illustre e raccolse molti tesori di argento, d'oro, di pietre preziose, di aromi e d'armi di vario genere e di vasi di gran prezzo.
28 as wel as storehouses for his returns of grain, new wine and olive oil, and stal s for al kinds of cattleand pens for the flocks.	28 Si era anche fabbricato magazzini di frumento, di vino, d'olio e stalle per tutti gli animali e ovili per le pecore
29 He also provided himself with donkeys in addition to his immense wealth of flocks and herds, sinceGod had made him immensely wealthy.	29 e città, poichè aveva un numero sterminato di greggi di pecore, e armenti, avendogli il Signore concesse stragrandi ricchezze.
30 It was Hezekiah who stopped the upper outlet of the waters of Gihon and directed them straightdown on the west side of the City of David. Hezekiah succeeded in al that he undertook,	30 Fu questi quell'Ezechia che turò la fonte superiore delle acque di Gion, e le deviò sotto terra verso occidente della città di Davide; egli riuscì felicemente in tutte le sue imprese.
31 although when the envoys were sent to him by the rulers of Babylon to enquire about theextraordinary thing which had taken place in the country, God left him alone to test him and discover what lay inhis heart.	31 Tuttavia nell'ambasceria dei principi di Babilonia, mandata da lui per interrogarlo del prodigio avvenuto sulla terra, il Signore lo abbandonò perchè fosse messo alla prova e si facesse noto tutto ciò che aveva nel suo cuore.
32 The rest of the history of Hezekiah, and his deeds of faithful love, are recorded in the Vision of theprophet Isaiah son of Amoz, in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.	32 Il rimanente delle azioni di Ezechia e delle sue opere buone sta scritto nella visione del profeta Isaia, figlio di Amos, e nel libro dei re di Giuda e d'Israele.
33 Then Hezekiah fel asleep with his ancestors and was buried in the upper section of the tombs of thesons of David. Al Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem paid him honours at his death. His son Manassehsucceeded him.	33 Ezechia s'addormentò co' suoi padri e fu sepolto nei sepolcri dei figliuoli di Davide; e tutto Giuda e tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme gli celebrarono esequie. In sua vece regnò il figliuolo di lui Manasse.
