2 Chronicles 32

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 After these loyal actions, Sennacherib king of Assyria advanced and invaded Judah, and laid siege tothe fortified towns, intending to demolish them.	1 Después de todas estas pruebas de fidelidad, vino Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, invadió Judá, puso sitio a las ciudades fortificadas y mandó forzar las murallas.
2 Hezekiah, realising that Sennacherib's advance was the preliminary to an attack on Jerusalem,	2 Cuando vio Ezequías que Senaquerib venía con intención de atacar a Jerusalén,
3 consulted his officers and warriors about sealing off the waters of the springs outside the city, and theysupported him.	3 tomó consejo con sus jefes y sus valientes en orden a cegar las fuentes de agua que había fuera de la ciudad; y ellos le apoyaron.
4 So a large number of people were cal ed out to block al the springs and cut off the watercourseflowing through the country. 'Why', they said, 'should the kings of Assyria find plenty of water when they arrive?'	4 Juntóse mucha gente, y cegaron todas las fuentes y el arroyo que corría por medio de la región, diciendo: «Cuando vengan los reyes de Asiria, ¿por qué han de hallar tanta agua?»
5 Acting with determination, he also repaired al the damaged parts of the wal , built towers on it,constructed a second wal on the outer side, strengthened the Mil o of the City of David and made quantities ofmissiles and shields.	5 Y cobrando ánimo, reparó toda la muralla que estaba derribada, alzando torres sobre la misma, levantó otro muralla exterior, fortificó el Milló en la Ciudad de David, y fabricó una gran cantidad de armas arrojadizas y escudos.
6 He then appointed generals to command the people, summoned them to him in the square by the citygate and spoke as fol ows to encourage them,	6 Puso jefes de combate sobre el pueblo, los reunió a su lado en la plaza de la puerta de la ciudad, y hablándoles al corazón, dijo:
7 'Be strong and brave; do not be afraid or tremble when you face the king of Assyria and the wholehorde he brings with him, for there are more on our side than on his.	7 «Sed fuertes y tened ánimo; no temáis, ni desmayéis ante el rey de Asiria, ni ante toda la muchedumbre que viene con él, porque es más el que está con nosotros que el que está con él.
8 He has only human strength, but we have Yahweh our God to help us and fight our battles.' Thepeople took heart at the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.	8 Con él está un brazo de carne, pero con nosotros está Yahveh nuestro Dios para ayudarnos y para combatir nuestros combates». Y el pueblo quedó confortado con las palabras de Ezequías, rey de Judá.
9 Next, Sennacherib king of Assyria, who was then besieging Lachish with all his forces, sent hisrepresentatives to Jerusalem, to Hezekiah king of Judah, and al Judah at Jerusalem, with the fol owingmessage,	9 Después de esto, Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, que estaba sitiando Lakís, con todas sus fuerzas, envió sus siervos a Jerusalén, a Ezequías, rey de Judá, y a todos los de Judá que estaban en Jerusalén para decirles:
10 'Sennacherib king of Assyria says this, "What gives you the confidence to remain in the fortress ofJerusalem?	10 «Así dice Senaquerib, rey de Asiria: ¿En qué ponéis vuestra confianza, para que permanezcáis cercados en Jerusalén?
11 Isn't Hezekiah deluding you, only to condemn you to die of famine and thirst, when he says: Yahwehour God wil save us from the King of Assyria's clutches?	11 ¿No os engaña Ezequías para entregaros a la muerte por hambre y sed, cuando dice: “Yahveh nuestro Dios nos librará de la mano del rey de Asiria”?
12 Isn't Hezekiah the very man who has suppressed his high places and altars, and given the order toJudah and to Jerusalem: You must worship before one altar and on that alone offer incense?	12 ¿No es este el mismo Ezequías que ha quitado sus altos y sus altares y ha dicho a Judá y Jerusalén: “Ante un solo altar os postraréis y sobre él habréis de quemar incienso”?
13 Don't you know what I and my ancestors have done to al the peoples of the other countries? Havethe national gods of those countries had the slightest success in saving their countries from my clutches?	13 ¿Acaso no sabéis lo que yo y mis padres hemos hecho con todos los pueblos de los países? ¿Por ventura los dioses de las naciones de estos países han sido capaces de librar sus territorios de mi mano?
14 Of al the gods of those nations whom my ancestors devoted to destruction, which one has been ableto save his people from my clutches, for your god to be able to save you from my clutches?	14 ¿Quién de entre todos los dioses de aquellas naciones que mis padres dieron al anatema pudo librar a su pueblo de mi mano? ¿Es que vuestro Dios podrá libraros de mi mano?
15 Do not let Hezekiah mislead you. Do not let him delude you like this. Do not believe him, for no godof any nation or kingdom has been able to save his people from me or from my ancestors' clutches. No more wilyour god be able to save you from my clutches." '	15 Ahora, pues, que no os engañe Ezequías ni os embauque de esa manera. No le creáis; ningún dios de ninguna nación ni de ningún reino ha podido salvar a su pueblo de mi mano, ni de la mano de mis padres, ¡cuánto menos podrá vuestro Dios libraros a vosotros de mi mano!»
16 And his representatives said a great deal more, maligning Yahweh God, and his servant Hezekiah.	16 Sus siervos dijeron todavía más cosas contra Yahveh Dios y contra Ezequías su siervo.
17 He also wrote a letter to insult Yahweh, God of Israel, maligning him as follows, 'Just as the nationalgods of the other countries could not save their peoples from my clutches, so Hezekiah's god cannot save hispeople from my clutches.'	17 Escribió además cartas para insultar a Yahveh, Dios de Israel, hablando contra él de este modo: «Así como los dioses de las naciones de otros países no han salvado a sus pueblos de mi mano, así tampoco el Dios de Ezequías salvará a su pueblo de mi mano».
18 They then shouted loudly in the Judaean language to the people of Jerusalem on the ramparts tofrighten and confuse them, in the hope of capturing the city,	18 Los enviados gritaban en voz alta, en lengua judía, al pueblo de Jerusalén, que estaba sobre el muro, para atemorizarlos y asustarlos, y poder conquistar la ciudad,
19 maligning the God of Jerusalem as though he were one of the man-made gods of other peoples inthe world.	19 y hablando del Dios de Jerusalén como de los dioses de los pueblos de la tierra, que son obra de manos de hombre.
20 Then King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz prayed and cried out to Heaven about this,	20 En esta situación, el rey Ezequías y el profeta Isaías, hijo de Amós, oraron y clamaron al cielo.
21 and Yahweh sent an angel who destroyed every warrior, commander and officer in the king ofAssyria's camp. So he had to retire shamefacedly to his own country and when he went into the temple of hisgod, some of his own sons there struck him down with the sword.	21 Y Yahveh envió un ángel que exterminó a todos los guerreros esforzados de su ejército, a los príncipes y a los jefes que había en el campamento del rey de Asiria; el cual volvió a su tierra cubierta la cara de vergüenza, y al entrar en la casa de su dios, allí mismo, los hijos de sus propias entrañas le hicieron caer a espada.
22 So Yahweh saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the clutches of Sennacherib kingof Assyria and of everyone else, and gave them peace on every side.	22 Así salvó Yahveh a Ezequías y a los habitantes de Jerusalén de la mano de Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, y de la mano de todos sus enemigos, y les dio paz por todos lados.
23 Many people then brought gifts to Yahweh in Jerusalem and valuable presents to Hezekiah king ofJudah; from then on, all the other nations held him in high esteem.	23 Muchos trajeron entonces ofrendas a Yahveh, a Jerusalén, y presentes a Ezequías, rey de Judá; el cual de allí en adelante adquirió gran prestigio a los ojos de todas las naciones.
24 About then Hezekiah fel il and was at the point of death. He prayed to Yahweh, who heard him andgranted him a sign.	24 En aquellos días Ezequías cayó enfermo de muerte; pero hizo oración a Yahveh, que le escuchó y le otorgó una señal maravillosa.
25 But Hezekiah made no return for the benefit which he had received; he became proud and broughtretribution on himself and on Judah and Jerusalem.	25 Pero Ezequías no correspondió al bien que había recibido, pues se ensoberbeció su corazón, por lo cual la Cólera vino sobre él, sobre Judá y Jerusalén.
26 Then, however, Hezekiah did humble himself in his pride, and so did the inhabitants of Jerusalem; asa result of which, Yahweh's retribution did not overtake them during Hezekiah's lifetime.	26 Mas después de haberse ensoberbecido en su corazón, se humilló Ezequías, él y los habitantes de Jerusalén; y por eso no estalló contra ellos la ira de Yahveh en los días de Ezequías.
27 Hezekiah enjoyed immense riches and honour. He built himself treasuries for gold, silver, preciousstones, spices, jewels and every kind of desirable object,	27 Ezequías tuvo riquezas y gloria en gran abundancia. Adquirió tesoros de plata, oro, piedras preciosas, bálsamos, joyas y de toda suerte de objetos de valor.
28 as wel as storehouses for his returns of grain, new wine and olive oil, and stal s for al kinds of cattleand pens for the flocks.	28 Tuvo también almacenes para las rentas de trigo, de mosto y de aceite; pesebres para toda clase de ganado y apriscos para los rebaños.
29 He also provided himself with donkeys in addition to his immense wealth of flocks and herds, sinceGod had made him immensely wealthy.	29 Se hizo con asnos y poseía ganado menor y mayor en abundancia, pues Dios le había dado muchísima hacienda.
30 It was Hezekiah who stopped the upper outlet of the waters of Gihon and directed them straightdown on the west side of the City of David. Hezekiah succeeded in al that he undertook,	30 Este mismo Ezequías cegó la salida superior de las aguas del Guijón y las condujo, bajo tierra, a la parte occidental de la Ciudad de David. Ezequías triunfó en todas sus empresas;
31 although when the envoys were sent to him by the rulers of Babylon to enquire about theextraordinary thing which had taken place in the country, God left him alone to test him and discover what lay inhis heart.	31 cuando los príncipes de Babilonia enviaron embajadores para investigar la señal maravillosa ocurrida en el país, Dios le abandonó para probarle y descubrir todo lo que tenía en su corazón.
32 The rest of the history of Hezekiah, and his deeds of faithful love, are recorded in the Vision of theprophet Isaiah son of Amoz, in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.	32 El resto de los hechos de Ezequías y sus obras piadosas están escritos en las visiones del profeta Isaías, hijo de Amós, y en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel.
33 Then Hezekiah fel asleep with his ancestors and was buried in the upper section of the tombs of thesons of David. Al Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem paid him honours at his death. His son Manassehsucceeded him.	33 Se acostó Ezequías con sus padres, y le sepultaron en la subida de los sepulcros de los hijos de David; y todo Judá y los habitantes de Jerusalén le rindieron honores a su muerte. En su lugar reinó su hijo Manasés.
