1 When David had passed a little beyond the summit, Meribbaal's retainer, Ziba, met him with a pair ofdonkeys, saddled and laden with two hundred loaves of bread, a hundred bunches of raisins, a hundred of theseason's fruits, and a skin of wine.	1 Quando David ebbe di poco passata la cima del monte, comparve Siba, servo di Mifiboset, che gli veniva incontro con due asini carichi di duecento pani, di cento penzoli d'uva secca, di cento canestri di fichi e di un otre di vino.
2 The king said to Ziba, 'What are you going to do with that?' 'The donkeys', Ziba replied, 'are for theking's family to ride, the bread and the fruit for the soldiers to eat, the wine is for drinking by those who getexhausted in the desert.'	2 Il re disse a Siba: « Che voglion dir queste cose? » E Siba a lui: « Gli asini son per i domestici del re come cavalcatura; i pani e i fichi, perchè li mangino i tuoi servi; il vino, perchè ne beva chi si trovasse spossato nel deserto ».
3 The king asked 'And where is your master's son?' Ziba replied to the king, 'Why, he has stayed inJerusalem because, he says, "Today, the House of Israel wil give me back my father's kingdom." '	3 Il re disse: « Dov'è il figlio del tuo signore?» Siba rispose al re: «E' restato a Gerusalemme, perchè dice: Oggi la casa d'Israele mi restituirà il regno di mio padre ».
4 Then the king said to Ziba, 'Everything owned by Meribbaal is yours.' Ziba said, 'I prostrate myself!May I be worthy of your favour, my lord king!'	4 Allora il re disse a Siba: « Tutto quello che fu di Mifiboset è tuo ». Siba rispose: « Io chiedo di trovar grazia dinanzi a te, o re mio signore ».
5 As David was reaching Bahurim, out came a man of the same clan as Saul's family. His name wasShimei son of Gera and, as he came, he uttered curse after curse	5 Quando il re David giunse a Bahurim, ecco uscir fuori di là un uomo della famiglia della casa di Saul, chiamato Semei, figlio di Gera. Egli facendosi innanzi, malediceva,
6 and threw stones at David and at al King David's retinue, even though the whole army and al thechampions formed an escort round the king on either side.	6 e tirava sassi contro David e contro i servi del re David, mentre tutto il popolo e tutti i combattenti marciavano a destra e a sinistra del re.
7 The words of his curse were these, 'Off with you, off with you, man of blood, scoundrel!	7 Semei diceva così nel maledire il re: «Vattene, vattene, uomo di sangue, uomo di Belial.
8 Yahweh has paid you back for all the spilt blood of the House of Saul whose sovereignty you haveusurped; and Yahweh has transferred the sovereign power to Absalom your son. Now your wickedness hasovertaken you, man of blood that you are.'	8 Il Signore ha fatto ricader su te tutto il sangue della casa di Saul, perchè tu usurpasti il regno; il Signore ha dato il regno nelle mani di Assalonne tuo figlio, ed ecco ti opprimono i tuoi mali, perchè tu sei un uomo di sangue ».
9 Abishai son of Zeruiah said to the king, 'Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Let me goover and cut his head off.'	9 Abisai figlio di Sarvia disse al re: « Perchè questo cane morto deve maledire il re mio signore? Or vado io e gli taglio la testa ».
10 But the king replied, 'What concern is my business to you, sons of Zeruiah? Let him curse! If Yahwehhas said to him, "Curse David!" what right has anyone to say, "Why have you done so?" '	10 Ma il re disse: « Che cosa c'è tra me e voi, o figlio di Sarvia? Lasciate che maledica: il Signore gli ha comandato di maledir David; e chi gli potrà dire perchè abbia agito a questa maniera? »
11 David said to Abishai and al his retinue, 'Why, the son sprung from my own body is now seeking mylife; al the more reason for this Benjaminite to do so! Let him curse on, if Yahweh has told him to!	11 Poi David disse ad Abisai e a tutti i suoi servi: « Ecco il mio figlio, colui che è uscito dalle mie viscere, vuole la mia vita, quanto più dunque un figlio di Iemini? Lasciatelo maledire secondo l'ordine del Signore.
12 Perhaps Yahweh wil look on my wretchedness and wil repay me with good for his curses today.'	12 Può essere che il Signore riguardi la mia afflizione, e mi renda del bene per la maledizione di questo giorno ».
13 So David and his men went on their way, and Shimei kept pace with him along the oppositemountainside, cursing as he went, throwing stones and flinging dust.	13 David con la sua gente seguitava per la sua strada, mentre Semei, che camminava sulla cresta del monte di faccia a lui, seguitava a maledirlo, tirandogli sassi e gettando terra.
14 The king and al the people who were with him arrived exhausted at . . . . . . and there they drewbreath.	14 Finalmente il re e tutta la gente che era con lui arrivarono al posto ed ivi si ristorarono.
15 Absalom entered Jerusalem with al the men of Israel; with him was Ahithophel.	15 Intanto Assalonne, che aveva seco Achitòfel, con tutto il popolo entrò in Gerusalemme.
16 When Hushai the Archite, David's friend, reached Absalom, Hushai said to Absalom, 'Long live theking! Long live the king!'	16 Or quando Cusai Arachita, amico di David, andò da Assalonne, gli disse: « Dio ti salvi, o re; Dio ti salvi, o re! »
17 Absalom said to Hushai, 'Is this your faithful love for your friend? Why didn't you go away with yourfriend?'	17 E Assalonne gli disse: « E' questa la tua gratitudine verso il tuo amico? Perchè non sei andato col tuo amico? »
18 Hushai replied to Absalom, 'No, the man whom Yahweh and this people and al the men of Israelhave chosen, he is the man for me, and with him wil I stay!	18 Cusai rispose ad Assalonne: « No: io sarò di colui che il Signore, tutto questo popolo e tutto Israele hanno eletto; io resterò con lui.
19 Besides, whom should I serve, if not his son? As I served your father, so shal I serve you.'	19 Di più, di chi mi metto a servizio? Non è forse il figlio del re? Come obbedii al padre tuo, così obbedirò anche a te ».
20 Absalom said to Ahithophel, 'Think careful y. What shal we do?'	20 Poi Assalonne disse ad Achitòfel: « Deliberate sul da farsi ».
21 Ahithophel replied to Absalom, 'Go to your father's concubines whom he left to look after the palace;then al Israel wil hear that you have thoroughly antagonised your father, and the resolution of all yoursupporters wil be strengthened.'	21 Achitòfel disse ad Assalonne: « Entra dalle concubine di tuo padre, ch'egli lasciò a custodire la casa, così quando tutto Israele saprà che hai disonorato tuo padre, le mani dei tuoi diverran più forti ».
22 So a tent was pitched for Absalom on the flat roof and, with al Israel watching, Absalom went to hisfather's concubines.	22 Alzarono adunque per Assalonne un padiglione sul tetto, e Assalonne entrò dalle concubine di suo padre davanti a tutto Israele.
23 At the time, whatever advice Ahithophel gave was treated like a decision obtained from God; as byDavid, so by Absalom, was al Ahithophel's advice regarded.	23 In quei giorni il consiglio che dava Achitò­fel era come l'oracolo di Dio: tale era il consiglio d'Achitofel, tanto quando era con David, come quando era con Assalonne.
