1 When David had passed a little beyond the summit, Meribbaal's retainer, Ziba, met him with a pair ofdonkeys, saddled and laden with two hundred loaves of bread, a hundred bunches of raisins, a hundred of theseason's fruits, and a skin of wine.	1 David avait dépassé le sommet; Siba, le serviteur de Méribaal, vint alors à sa rencontre avec une paire d’ânes. Il portait 200 pains, 100 grappes de raisins secs, 100 fruits de saison et une outre de vin.
2 The king said to Ziba, 'What are you going to do with that?' 'The donkeys', Ziba replied, 'are for theking's family to ride, the bread and the fruit for the soldiers to eat, the wine is for drinking by those who getexhausted in the desert.'	2 Le roi dit à Siba: “Que vas-tu faire de tout cela?” Siba répondit: “Les ânes serviront de monture pour la famille du roi, le pain, les fruits de saison, seront pour la nourriture de ses compagnons. On donnera le vin à boire à ceux qui seront fatigués dans le désert.”
3 The king asked 'And where is your master's son?' Ziba replied to the king, 'Why, he has stayed inJerusalem because, he says, "Today, the House of Israel wil give me back my father's kingdom." '	3 Alors le roi lui dit: “Mais où donc est le fils de ton seigneur Saül?” Siba dit au roi: “Il est resté à Jérusalem, car il pense que la maison d’Israël lui rendra aujourd’hui la royauté de son père.”
4 Then the king said to Ziba, 'Everything owned by Meribbaal is yours.' Ziba said, 'I prostrate myself!May I be worthy of your favour, my lord king!'	4 Le roi dit à Siba: “Tout ce qui est à Méribaal t’appartient.” Siba répondit: “Je ne peux que m’incliner, que je trouve grâce aux yeux de mon seigneur le roi!”
5 As David was reaching Bahurim, out came a man of the same clan as Saul's family. His name wasShimei son of Gera and, as he came, he uttered curse after curse	5 Le roi David approchait de Bahourim; un homme en sortit qui était de la famille de Saül et s’appelait Chiméï, fils de Guéra. Tout en marchant, il prononçait toutes sortes de malédictions.
6 and threw stones at David and at al King David's retinue, even though the whole army and al thechampions formed an escort round the king on either side.	6 Il jetait des pierres vers David et les serviteurs du roi, tandis que le roi David avançait entouré à droite et à gauche par le peuple et par sa garde.
7 The words of his curse were these, 'Off with you, off with you, man of blood, scoundrel!	7 Chiméï maudissait: “Va-t’en, va-t’en! Tu n’es qu’un homme de sang et un criminel!
8 Yahweh has paid you back for all the spilt blood of the House of Saul whose sovereignty you haveusurped; and Yahweh has transferred the sovereign power to Absalom your son. Now your wickedness hasovertaken you, man of blood that you are.'	8 Yahvé a fait retomber sur toi tout le sang de la maison de Saül. Tu étais devenu roi à sa place, mais aujourd’hui Yahvé a donné la royauté à l’un de tes fils, Absalom. Le malheur est venu sur toi car tu n’es qu’un homme de sang.”
9 Abishai son of Zeruiah said to the king, 'Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Let me goover and cut his head off.'	9 Abisaï, fils de Sérouya, dit au roi: “Pourquoi ce chien crevé maudit-il mon seigneur le roi? Laisse-moi traverser, je vais lui couper la tête.”
10 But the king replied, 'What concern is my business to you, sons of Zeruiah? Let him curse! If Yahwehhas said to him, "Curse David!" what right has anyone to say, "Why have you done so?" '	10 Mais le roi répondit: “Ne te mêle pas de mes affaires, fils de Sérouya: s’il maudit, c’est peut-être que Yahvé lui a dit: Maudis David! Qui donc ira lui demander pourquoi il agit de la sorte?”
11 David said to Abishai and al his retinue, 'Why, the son sprung from my own body is now seeking mylife; al the more reason for this Benjaminite to do so! Let him curse on, if Yahweh has told him to!	11 Alors David dit à Abisaï et à ses serviteurs: “Voici que mon fils, celui qui est sorti de moi, en veut à ma vie, à combien plus forte raison cet homme de Benjamin. Laissez-le maudire, si Yahvé le lui a dit.
12 Perhaps Yahweh wil look on my wretchedness and wil repay me with good for his curses today.'	12 Peut-être Yahvé tiendra-t-il compte de ma peine pour me rendre du bonheur après la malédiction d’aujourd’hui.”
13 So David and his men went on their way, and Shimei kept pace with him along the oppositemountainside, cursing as he went, throwing stones and flinging dust.	13 David et ses hommes continuèrent donc leur marche pendant que Chiméï suivait dans le même sens l’autre versant de la montagne; il maudissait, lançait des pierres et jetait de la poussière.
14 The king and al the people who were with him arrived exhausted at . . . . . . and there they drewbreath.	14 Le roi et tout son peuple s’arrêtèrent enfin exténués; on souffla un peu.
15 Absalom entered Jerusalem with al the men of Israel; with him was Ahithophel.	15 Absalom et tout le peuple d’Israël entrèrent à Jérusalem; Ahitofel était avec lui.
16 When Hushai the Archite, David's friend, reached Absalom, Hushai said to Absalom, 'Long live theking! Long live the king!'	16 Houchaï l’Arkite, le conseiller de David, vint se présenter à Absalom; il lui dit: “Vive le roi! Vive le roi!”
17 Absalom said to Hushai, 'Is this your faithful love for your friend? Why didn't you go away with yourfriend?'	17 Absalom répondit à Houchaï: “Voilà toute ton affection pour ton ami! Pourquoi n’es-tu pas allé rejoindre ton ami?”
18 Hushai replied to Absalom, 'No, the man whom Yahweh and this people and al the men of Israelhave chosen, he is the man for me, and with him wil I stay!	18 Mais Houchaï répondit à Absalom: “Non, n’est-ce pas toi que Yahvé, tout ce peuple et tous les hommes d’Israël ont choisi? Je t’appartiens et je reste près de toi.
19 Besides, whom should I serve, if not his son? As I served your father, so shal I serve you.'	19 Et puis, qui vais-je servir? N’es-tu pas son fils? Je te servirai tout comme j’ai servi ton père.”
20 Absalom said to Ahithophel, 'Think careful y. What shal we do?'	20 Absalom dit à Ahitofel: “Réunissons un conseil pour savoir ce que nous allons faire.”
21 Ahithophel replied to Absalom, 'Go to your father's concubines whom he left to look after the palace;then al Israel wil hear that you have thoroughly antagonised your father, and the resolution of all yoursupporters wil be strengthened.'	21 Ahitofel dit à Absalom: “Va vers les concubines de ton père, celles qu’il a laissées pour garder le palais. Tout Israël saura que tu t’es rendu odieux à ton père, et tous tes partisans se sentiront davantage compromis avec toi.”
22 So a tent was pitched for Absalom on the flat roof and, with al Israel watching, Absalom went to hisfather's concubines.	22 On dressa donc une tente sur la terrasse du palais et Absalom s’approcha des concubines de son père aux yeux de tout Israël.
23 At the time, whatever advice Ahithophel gave was treated like a decision obtained from God; as byDavid, so by Absalom, was al Ahithophel's advice regarded.	23 En ce temps-là, tous les conseils d’Ahitofel étaient comme des paroles de Dieu; il en était ainsi pour David comme pour Absalom.
