1 When David had passed a little beyond the summit, Meribbaal's retainer, Ziba, met him with a pair ofdonkeys, saddled and laden with two hundred loaves of bread, a hundred bunches of raisins, a hundred of theseason's fruits, and a skin of wine.	1 - Davide avea oltrepassato da poco la sommità del monte, quando comparve Siba, servo di Mifiboset, che gli veniva incontro con due asini carichi di duecento pani e di cento penzoli d'uva passa e di cento panieri di fichi e di un otre di vino.
2 The king said to Ziba, 'What are you going to do with that?' 'The donkeys', Ziba replied, 'are for theking's family to ride, the bread and the fruit for the soldiers to eat, the wine is for drinking by those who getexhausted in the desert.'	2 Disse il re a Siba: «Che significano queste cose?». E Siba rispose: «Gli asini serviranno da cavalcature ai familiari del re, i pani e i frutti per nutrire i tuoi servi, mentre il vino servirà a sostentare chiunque verrà meno nel deserto».
3 The king asked 'And where is your master's son?' Ziba replied to the king, 'Why, he has stayed inJerusalem because, he says, "Today, the House of Israel wil give me back my father's kingdom." '	3 Disse il re: «E dov'è il figlio del tuo padrone?». Rispose Siba al re: «Restò a Gerusalemme dicendo: - Oggi la casa d'Israele mi restituirà il regno del padre mio -».
4 Then the king said to Ziba, 'Everything owned by Meribbaal is yours.' Ziba said, 'I prostrate myself!May I be worthy of your favour, my lord king!'	4 Disse il re a Siba: «Sarà tuo quanto possedeva Mifiboset». E Siba soggiunse: «O re, mio signore, chieggio solo di trovar grazia al tuo cospetto».
5 As David was reaching Bahurim, out came a man of the same clan as Saul's family. His name wasShimei son of Gera and, as he came, he uttered curse after curse	5 Davide era arrivato fino a Baurim ed ecco uscire di là un uomo della parentela della casa di Saul, di nome Semei figlio di Gera; e uscendo si faceva sempre più vicino per maledire;
6 and threw stones at David and at al King David's retinue, even though the whole army and al thechampions formed an escort round the king on either side.	6 gettava anche pietre contro Davide e contro i servi del re Davide, mentre tutto il popolo e tutti i guerrieri si avanzavano a destra e a sinistra del re.
7 The words of his curse were these, 'Off with you, off with you, man of blood, scoundrel!	7 Semei poi, nel maledire al re, così si esprimeva: «Vattene, vattene, uomo sanguinario, uomo di Belial.
8 Yahweh has paid you back for all the spilt blood of the House of Saul whose sovereignty you haveusurped; and Yahweh has transferred the sovereign power to Absalom your son. Now your wickedness hasovertaken you, man of blood that you are.'	8 Il Signore ti ha reso tutto il sangue della casa di Saul, perchè tu hai invaso il suo regno; il Signore ha dato nelle mani di Absalom tuo figlio questo regno; ed ora ecco che i tuoi mali ti opprimono, poichè fosti uomo sanguinario».
9 Abishai son of Zeruiah said to the king, 'Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Let me goover and cut his head off.'	9 Abisai figliuolo di Sarvia disse al re: «Perchè questo cane morto osa maledire il re mio signore? Andrò io a tagliargli la testa».
10 But the king replied, 'What concern is my business to you, sons of Zeruiah? Let him curse! If Yahwehhas said to him, "Curse David!" what right has anyone to say, "Why have you done so?" '	10 Ma il re disse: «Che cosa c'è tra me e voi, figliuoli di Sarvia? Lasciatelo maledire, poichè il Signore gli ha comandato di maledire Davide; e chi oserà chiedergli: - Perchè hai fatto così? -».
11 David said to Abishai and al his retinue, 'Why, the son sprung from my own body is now seeking mylife; al the more reason for this Benjaminite to do so! Let him curse on, if Yahweh has told him to!	11 Disse il re ad Abisai e a tutti i suoi servi: «Ecco, mio figlio, che è uscito dalle mie viscere, attenta alla mia vita; quanto più questo figlio di Jemini? Lasciate che egli maledica come Dio gli ha imposto.
12 Perhaps Yahweh wil look on my wretchedness and wil repay me with good for his curses today.'	12 Chi sa che il Signore guardando alla mia afflizione non mi renda del bene per la maledizione di questo giorno».
13 So David and his men went on their way, and Shimei kept pace with him along the oppositemountainside, cursing as he went, throwing stones and flinging dust.	13 Davide e i suoi compagni continuavano il loro cammino e Semei camminava sul fianco della montagna dirimpetto a Davide, e camminando imprecava, gettava pietre contro di lui e lanciava manate di terra.
14 The king and al the people who were with him arrived exhausted at . . . . . . and there they drewbreath.	14 Pertanto il re e il popolo che stava con lui arrivarono là stanchi e vi si riposarono.
15 Absalom entered Jerusalem with al the men of Israel; with him was Ahithophel.	15 Frattanto Absalom e tutto il popolo suo erano entrati in Gerusalemme, e insieme con lui anche Achitofel.
16 When Hushai the Archite, David's friend, reached Absalom, Hushai said to Absalom, 'Long live theking! Long live the king!'	16 Essendo poi venuto da Absalom l'amico di Davide Cusai l'Arachite, così parlò: «Salve, o re! Salve, o re!».
17 Absalom said to Hushai, 'Is this your faithful love for your friend? Why didn't you go away with yourfriend?'	17 E Absalom disse a lui: «È questa l'affezione che porti al tuo amico? Perchè non te ne andasti col tuo amico?».
18 Hushai replied to Absalom, 'No, the man whom Yahweh and this people and al the men of Israelhave chosen, he is the man for me, and with him wil I stay!	18 Cusai rispose ad Absalom: «No, perchè io sarò di quegli che fu eletto dal Signore, da tutto questo popolo e da tutto Israele, e con lui resterò.
19 Besides, whom should I serve, if not his son? As I served your father, so shal I serve you.'	19 Ma aggiungerò anche questo: A chi servirò io? Non servirò io al figlio del re? Come ho ubbidito al padre tuo, così ubbidirò a te».
20 Absalom said to Ahithophel, 'Think careful y. What shal we do?'	20 Disse poi Absalom ad Achitofel: «Consigliatevi tra voi cosa dobbiamo fare».
21 Ahithophel replied to Absalom, 'Go to your father's concubines whom he left to look after the palace;then al Israel wil hear that you have thoroughly antagonised your father, and the resolution of all yoursupporters wil be strengthened.'	21 E Achitofel disse ad Absalom: «Entra dalle concubine del padre tuo, lasciate alla custodia della casa, affinchè quando Israele avrà inteso che tu hai disonorato in tal modo il padre tuo, le mani di tutti quelli che sono con te si rafforzeranno».
22 So a tent was pitched for Absalom on the flat roof and, with al Israel watching, Absalom went to hisfather's concubines.	22 Eressero pertanto ad Absalom una tenda sul tetto della casa, ed egli al cospetto di tutto Israele entrò dalle concubine del padre suo.
23 At the time, whatever advice Ahithophel gave was treated like a decision obtained from God; as byDavid, so by Absalom, was al Ahithophel's advice regarded.	23 Il consiglio di Achitofel dato in quei giorni, era ritenuto quasi come il consiglio dato dal Signore a chi lo consultava. In tal conto era tenuto il consiglio di Achitofel sia quando questi si trovava con Davide, come quando fu con Absalom.
