1 Now, Joab son of Zeruiah observed that the king was favourably inclined to Absalom.	1 - Joab figlio di Sarvia accortosi che il cuore del re erasi mitigato verso Absalom,
2 Joab therefore sent to Tekoa for a wise woman. 'Pretend to be in mourning,' he said. 'Dress yourself inmourning, do not perfume yourself; act like a woman who has long been mourning for the dead.	2 mandò a Tecua e ne fece venire una donna saggia e le disse: «Fingi di piangere, indossa una veste da lutto e non ungerti di olio come se fosti donna che da molto tempo piange un morto.
3 Then go to the king and say this to him.' And Joab put the words into her mouth which she was to say.	3 Entrerai dal re e parlerai a lui in questi termini», e Joab le suggerì le parole da dire.
4 So the woman of Tekoa went to the king and, fal ing on her face to the ground, prostrated herself.'Help, my lord king!' she said.	4 Come adunque la donna di Tecua si trovò alla presenza del re, cadde colla faccia a terra, l'adorò e gli disse: «Salvami, o re».
5 The king said, 'What is the matter?' 'As you see,' she replied, 'I am a widow; my husband is dead.	5 Il re le domandò: «Che cosa hai?». Ed ella rispose: «Ohimè, sono una povera vedova, poichè mi è morto il marito!
6 Your servant had two sons and out in the fields, where there was no one to intervene, they had aquarrel. And one of them struck the other one and kil ed him.	6 La tua ancella avea due figliuoli, che vennero a rissa in aperta campagna, dove non eravi alcuno che potesse trattenerli, e uno percosse l'altro e lo uccise.
7 And now the whole clan has risen against your servant. "Give up the man who kil ed his brother," theysay, "so that we can put him to death, to atone for the life of the brother whom he has murdered; and thus weshall destroy the heir as wel ." By this means, they wil extinguish the ember stil left to me, leaving my husbandneither name nor survivor on the face of the earth.'	7 Ora ecco insorgere tutta la parentela contro la tua ancella e dire: - Consegnaci chi ha ucciso il fratello, affinchè lo uccidiamo per vendicare il fratello da lui ucciso e sia tolto dal mondo l'erede. - E così cercano di estinguere la scintilla che ancor mi è restata e non vogliono lasciar a mio marito nè un nome, nè una discendenza sulla faccia della terra».
8 Then the king said to the woman, 'Go home; I myself shal give orders about your case.'	8 Disse il re alla donna: «Va' a casa, e io darò ordini per te».
9 The woman of Tekoa said to the king, 'My lord king! May the guilt be on me and on my family; the kingand his throne are innocent of it.'	9 Allora la donna di Tecua disse al re: «Sopra di me, o re mio signore, cada la colpa e sopra la casa del padre mio, ma il re e il suo trono non ne siano responsabili».
10 'Bring me the man who threatened you,' the king replied, 'and he shal never hurt you again.'	10 E il re soggiunse: «Chiunque volesse contrariarti conducimelo dinanzi e gli passerà la voglia di darti noia».
11 She then said, 'Let the king be pleased to pronounce the name of Yahweh your God, so that theavenger of blood may not do greater harm and destroy my son.' 'As Yahweh lives,' he said, 'not one of yourson's hairs shal fal to the ground!'	11 Al che essa disse: «Ricordisi il re del Signore Iddio suo, affinchè non siano accresciuti i parenti destinati a vendicare il sangue e non uccidano il figliuol mio». E il re le rispose: «Viva il Signore: non cadrà alcuno dei capelli del figliuol tuo sulla terra».
12 Then the woman said, 'Permit your servant to say something else to my lord the king.' 'Go on,' hesaid.	12 Disse allora la donna: «Permetti che la tua ancella dica una parola al re mio signore», ed egli: «Parla».
13 The woman said, 'Why then has the king, who by giving this verdict has condemned himself,conceived the idea, against God's people's interests, of not bringing home the son whom he has banished?	13 Continuò la donna: «Perchè hai tu pensato di fare una cosa simile contro il popolo di Dio e perchè il re ha detto questa parola in modo da peccare non volendo richiamare quegli che fu scacciato?
14 We are al mortal; we are like water spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again, nor doesGod raise up a corpse; let the king therefore make plans for his banished son not to remain far away from him inexile.	14 Tutti siamo mortali e siamo come acque sparse sulla terra che non si possono più raccogliere. Dio poi non vuole che alcuno perisca, ma egli riflette e pensa che non debba interamente perire chi fu scacciato.
15 'Now, the reason why I came to speak about this to my lord the king is that I was being intimidated,and your servant thought, "I shal speak to the king; perhaps the king will do what his servant asks.	15 Ora adunque io venni per dir questo al re, mio signore, alla presenza del popolo; e la tua ancella disse: - Parlerò al re e forse il re farà quanto dirà a lui la sua ancella: -
16 Surely the king wil consent to save his servant from the clutches of the man who is trying to cut bothme and my son off from God's heritage.	16 e il re la esaudì col voler liberata la sua ancella dalle mani di tutti quelli che volevano togliere me e il mio figliuolo dalla eredità di Dio.
17 Let a word from my lord the king, restore the peace!" your servant thought, "for my lord the king islike the Angel of God in understanding good and evil." May Yahweh your God be with you!'	17 Dica adunque la tua ancella che la parola del re mio signore diventi come un sacrificio, poichè il re mio signore è simile a un angelo di Dio, il quale non si commuove nè per la benedizione nè per la maledizione; perciò anche il Signore Iddio tuo è con te».
18 Replying to the woman, the king said, 'Now do not evade the question which I am going to ask you.'The woman said, 'Let my lord the king ask his question.'	18 Per tutta risposta il re disse alla donna: «Non nascondermi ciò che io ti domando». E la donna disse: «Parla, o re mio signore».
19 'Is not Joab's hand behind you in all this?' the king asked. The woman replied, 'As you live, my lordking, I cannot escape what my lord the king says, either to right or to left. Yes, it was your servant Joab whogave me my orders; he put al these words into your servant's mouth.	19 Il re domandò: «In tutto ciò che mi hai detto non c'entra la mano di Joab?». Rispose la donna e disse: «Per la salvezza della tua vita, o re mio signore, non vi è nulla che sfugga nè a sinistra nè a destra di tutte quelle cose che ha detto il re, mio signore; fu il tuo servo Joab, che comandò a me e pose in bocca alla tua ancella tutte queste parole.
20 Your servant Joab did this to approach the matter indirectly, but my lord has the wisdom of the Angelof God; he knows everything that happens on earth!'	20 Fu il tuo servo Joab che mi comandò di proporti la parabola; ma tu, o re mio signore, sei sapiente, come è sapiente un angelo di Dio e conosci tutto ciò che esiste al mondo».
21 The king then said to Joab, 'Very wel , the suit is granted. Go and bring the young man Absalomback.'	21 Allora il re disse a Joab: «Eccomi placato e disposto a fare il tuo volere; va' e richiama il mio figlio Absalom».
22 Joab fell on his face to the ground, prostrated himself and blessed the king. 'My lord king,' Joab said,'today your servant knows that he has won your favour, since the king has done what his servant asked.'	22 Prostrato Joab a terra adorò e benedisse il re e disse: «Oggi il tuo servo ha conosciuto di aver trovato grazia negli occhi tuoi, o re mio signore, poichè hai fatto quanto il tuo servo ha detto».
23 Joab then set off, went to Geshur, and brought Absalom back to Jerusalem.	23 Poi Joab si levò e partì alla volta di Gessur e ricondusse Absalom a Gerusalemme.
24 The king, however, said, 'Let him retire to his own house; he is not to appear in my presence.' SoAbsalom retired to his own house and was not received by the king.	24 Davide però disse: «Ritorni a casa sua e non vegga la mia faccia». E Absalom tornò a casa e non comparì dinanzi al re.
25 In al Israel there was no one more praised for his beauty than Absalom; from the sole of his foot tothe crown of his head, he could not be faulted.	25 Absalom era bellissimo d'aspetto e non eravi in tutto Israele uomo più avvenente di lui. Dalla pianta dei piedi fino alla sommità del capo non aveva difetti.
26 When he cut his hair -- he shaved it once a year because his hair got too heavy -- he would weighthe hair: two hundred shekels, king's weight.	26 E quando si tagliava la chioma (una volta all'anno se la tagliava, perchè la capigliatura gli pesava troppo) i capelli della sua testa pesavano duecento sicli di peso pubblico.
27 To Absalom were born three sons and one daughter called Tamar; she was a beautiful woman.	27 Nacquero ad Absalom tre figli ed una figlia di nome Tamar di bell'aspetto.
28 Absalom lived in Jerusalem for two years without being received by the king.	28 Absalom restò in Gerusalemme per due anni senza vedere la faccia del re.
29 Absalom then summoned Joab, intending to send him to the king, but Joab would not come to him.He sent for him a second time, but still he would not come.	29 In seguito Absalom fece chiamare Joab per mandarlo dal re, ma Joab non volle venire da lui, e avendolo mandato a chiamare una seconda volta e non avendo egli voluto venire,
30 At this, Absalom said to his retainers, 'Look, Joab's field is next to mine and he has barley in it; goand set it on fire.' Absalom's retainers set fire to the field.	30 disse ai suoi servi: «Voi conoscete il campo di Joab, posto accanto al mio campo, dove trovasi orzo maturo da mietere; andate a mettervi fuoco». I servi di Absalom misero fuoco alla mèsse. E venuti i servi di Joab colle vesti lacerate a dirgli: «I servi di Absalom hanno dato fuoco a una parte del campo»,
31 Joab then stirred himself, went to Absalom in his house and asked, 'Why have your retainers set myfield on fire?'	31 Joab si levò e venne alla casa di Absalom e gli disse: «Perchè i tuoi servi hanno appiccato il fuoco alla mia mèsse?».
32 Absalom replied to Joab, 'Look, I sent word to you: Come here, so that I can send you to the king tosay, "Why come back from Geshur? Better for me to have been there still!" Now I want to be received by theking, and if I am guilty, let him put me to death!'	32 Absalom rispose: «Ti mandai a pregare di venire da me, perchè voleva mandarti dal re per dirgli: - Perchè son io venuto da Gessur? Era assai meglio per me che me ne restassi colà. Pregoti adunque ch'io abbia a vedere la faccia del re. Che se egli è sempre memore del mio misfatto, mi uccida -».
33 Joab went to the king and told him this. He then summoned Absalom, who prostrated himself with hisface to the ground before the king. And the king kissed Absalom.	33 Andatosene Joab dal re gli raccontò tutto ciò; Absalom fu chiamato e fu ammesso al cospetto del re e si prosternò colla faccia dinanzi a lui e il re baciò Absalom.
