Genesis 17

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old Yahweh appeared to him and said, 'I am El Shaddai. Live inmy presence, be perfect,	1 Abrão tinha noventa e nove anos. O Senhor apareceu-lhe e disse-lhe: "Eu sou o Deus Todo-poderoso. Anda em minha presença e sê íntegro;
2 and I shal grant a covenant between myself and you, and make you very numerous.'	2 quero fazer aliança contigo e multiplicarei ao infinito a tua descendência."
3 And Abram bowed to the ground. God spoke to him as follows,	3 Abrão prostrou-se com o rosto por terra. Deus disse-lhe:
4 'For my part, this is my covenant with you: you wil become the father of many nations.	4 "Este é o pacto que faço contigo: serás o pai de uma multidão de povos.
5 And you are no longer to be cal ed Abram; your name is to be Abraham, for I am making you father ofmany nations.	5 De agora em diante não te chamarás mais Abrão, e sim Abraão, porque farei de ti o pai de uma multidão de povos.
6 I shal make you exceedingly fertile. I shall make you into nations, and your issue wil be kings.	6 Tornar-te-ei extremamente fecundo, farei nascer de ti nações e terás reis por descendentes.
7 And I shal maintain my covenant between myself and you, and your descendants after you,generation after generation, as a covenant in perpetuity, to be your God and the God of your descendants afteryou.	7 Faço aliança contigo e com tua posteridade, uma aliança eterna, de geração em geração, para que eu seja o teu Deus e o Deus de tua posteridade.
8 And to you and to your descendants after you, I shal give the country where you are now immigrants,the entire land of Canaan, to own in perpetuity. And I shal be their God.'	8 Darei a ti e a teus descendentes depois de ti a terra em que moras como peregrino, toda a terra de Canaã, em possessão perpétua, e serei o teu Deus."
9 God further said to Abraham, 'You for your part must keep my covenant, you and your descendantsafter you, generation after generation.	9 Deus disse ainda a Abraão: "Tu, porém, guardarás a minha aliança, tu e tua posteridade nas gerações futuras.
10 This is my covenant which you must keep between myself and you, and your descendants after you:every one of your males must be circumcised.	10 Eis o pacto que faço entre mim e vós, e teus descendentes, e que tereis de guardar: Todo homem, entre vós, será circuncidado.
11 You must circumcise the flesh of your foreskin, and that wil be the sign of the covenant betweenmyself and you.	11 Cortareis a carne de vosso prepúcio, e isso será o sinal da aliança entre mim e vós.
12 As soon as he is eight days old, every one of your males, generation after generation, must becircumcised, including slaves born within the household or bought from a foreigner not of your descent.	12 Todo homem, no oitavo dia do seu nascimento, será circuncidado entre vós nas gerações futuras, tanto o que nascer em casa, como o que comprardes a preço de dinheiro de um estrangeiro qualquer, e que não for de tua raça.
13 Whether born within the household or bought, they must be circumcised. My covenant must bemarked in your flesh as a covenant in perpetuity.	13 Circuncidar-se-á tanto o homem nascido na casa como aquele que for comprado a preço de dinheiro. Assim será marcado em vossa carne o sinal de minha aliança perpétua.
14 The uncircumcised male, whose foreskin has not been circumcised -- that person must be cut offfrom his people: he has broken my covenant.'	14 O varão incircunciso, do qual não se tenha cortado a carne do prepúcio, será exterminado de seu povo por ter violado minha aliança."
15 Furthermore God said to Abraham, 'As regards your wife Sarai, you must not cal her Sarai, butSarah.	15 Disse Deus a Abraão: "Não chamarás mais tua mulher Sarai, e sim Sara.
16 I shal bless her and moreover give you a son by her. I shal bless her and she will become nations:kings of peoples wil issue from her.'	16 Eu a abençoarei, e dela te darei um filho. Eu a abençoarei, e ela será a mãe de nações e dela sairão reis."
17 Abraham bowed to the ground, and he laughed, thinking to himself, 'Is a child to be born to a manone hundred years old, and wil Sarah have a child at the age of ninety?'	17 Abraão prostrou-se com o rosto por terra, e começou a rir, dizendo consigo mesmo: "Poderia nascer um filho a um homem de cem anos? Seria possível a Sara conceber ainda na idade de noventa anos?"
18 Abraham said to God, 'May Ishmael live in your presence! That wil be enough!'	18 E disse a Deus: "Oxalá que Ismael viva diante de vossa face!"
19 But God replied, 'Yes, your wife Sarah will bear you a son whom you must name Isaac. And I shalmaintain my covenant with him, a covenant in perpetuity, to be his God and the God of his descendants afterhim.	19 Mas Deus respondeu-lhe: "Não, é Sara, tua mulher que dará à luz um filho, ao qual chamarás Isaac. Farei aliança com ele, uma aliança que será perpétua para sua posteridade depois dele.
20 For Ishmael too I grant you your request. I hereby bless him and wil make him fruitful andexceedingly numerous. He wil be the father of twelve princes, and I shal make him into a great nation.	20 Eu te ouvirei também acerca de Ismael. Eu o abençoarei, torná-lo-ei fecundo e multiplicarei extraordinariamente sua descendência: ele será o pai de doze príncipes, e farei sair dele uma grande nação.
21 But my covenant I shall maintain with Isaac, whom Sarah wil bear you at this time next year.'	21 Mas minha aliança eu a farei com Isaac, que Sara te dará à luz dentro de um ano, nesta mesma época."
22 When he had finished speaking to Abraham, God went up from him.	22 Tendo acabado de falar com ele, retirou-se Deus de Abraão.
23 Then Abraham took his son Ishmael, al the slaves born in his household or whom he had bought, inshort al the males among the people of Abraham's household, and circumcised their foreskins that same day,as God had said to him.	23 Abraão tomou então Ismael, seu filho, assim como todos os homens nascidos em sua casa e todos aqueles que tinha comprado a preço de dinheiro, tudo o que havia de varões em sua casa, e circuncidou-se no mesmo dia, como Deus lhe havia ordenado.
24 Abraham was ninety-nine years old when his foreskin was circumcised.	24 Abraão tinha noventa e nove anos quando foi circuncidado.
25 Ishmael his son was thirteen years old when his foreskin was circumcised.	25 Ismael, seu filho, tinha treze anos quando o foi igualmente.
26 Abraham and his son Ishmael were circumcised on the very same day,	26 Abraão e Ismael, seu filho, foram circuncidados no mesmo dia;
27 and al the men of his household, those born in the household and those bought from foreigners,were circumcised with him.	27 e todos os homens de sua casa, nascidos em sua casa ou comprados a preço de dinheiro a estrangeiros, foram circuncidados ao mesmo tempo.
