1 Then David departed on his way, while Jonathan went back into the city.	1 Dann brach David auf und ging weg, Jonatan aber begab sich in die Stadt zurück.
2 David went to Ahimelech, the priest of Nob, who came trembling to meet him and asked, "Why are you alone? Is there no one with you?"	2 David gelangte nach Nob zu dem Priester Ahimelech. Ahimelech kam David aufgeregt entgegen und fragte ihn: Warum bist du allein und hast niemand bei dir?
3 David answered the priest: "The king gave me a commission and told me to let no one know anything about the business on which he sent me or the commission he gave me. For that reason I have arranged a meeting place with my men.	3 David antwortete dem Priester Ahimelech: Der König hat mir einen Auftrag gegeben und zu mir gesagt: Niemand darf etwas von der Angelegenheit erfahren, in der ich dich sende und mit der ich dich beauftrage. Darum habe ich meine Leute an einen bestimmten Ort bestellt.
4 Now what have you on hand? Give me five loaves, or whatever you can find."	4 Hast du vielleicht etwas zur Hand für mich? Fünf Brote vielleicht? Dann gib sie mir, oder gib mir, was du sonst finden kannst.
5 But the priest replied to David, "I have no ordinary bread on hand, only holy bread; if the men have abstained from women, you may eat some of that."	5 Der Priester gab David Antwort und sagte: Gewöhnliches Brot habe ich nicht zur Hand, nur heiliges Brot ist da; aber dann müssen sich die jungen Männer von Frauen ferngehalten haben.
6 David answered the priest: "We have indeed been segregated from women as on previous occasions. Whenever I go on a journey, all the young men are consecrated--even for a secular journey. All the more so today, when they are consecrated at arms!"	6 David antwortete dem Priester: Wir haben uns schon gestern und vorgestern von Frauen ferngehalten. Als ich auszog, waren die Waffen der jungen Männer geheiligt; wenn dies auch ein gewöhnlicher Marsch ist, so wird er doch durch die Waffen geheiligt.
7 So the priest gave him holy bread, for no other bread was on hand except the showbread which had been removed from the LORD'S presence and replaced by fresh bread when it was taken away.	7 Da gab ihm der Priester heiliges Brot, denn es gab dort nur die Schaubrote, die man von (dem Tisch) vor dem Angesicht des Herrn entfernt, um an dem Tag, an dem sie weggenommen werden, frisches Brot aufzulegen.
8 One of Saul's servants was there that day, detained before the LORD; his name was Doeg the Edomite, and he was Saul's chief henchman.	8 Damals hielt sich dort im Heiligtum des Herrn gerade einer von den Knechten Sauls auf, ein Edomiter namens Doëg; er war der Oberste von Sauls Hirten.
9 David then asked Ahimelech: "Do you have a spear or a sword on hand? I brought along neither my sword nor my weapons, because the king's business was urgent."	9 David fragte Ahimelech: Hast du einen Speer oder ein Schwert zur Hand? Denn ich konnte weder mein Schwert noch andere Waffen mitnehmen, weil der Auftrag des Königs so dringend war.
10 The priest replied: "The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the Vale of the Terebinth, is here (wrapped in a mantle) behind an ephod. If you wish to take that, take it; there is no sword here except that one." David said: "There is none to match it. Give it to me!"	10 Der Priester antwortete: Das Schwert des Philisters Goliat, den du im Terebinthental erschlagen hast, liegt hier, in einem Mantel eingewickelt, hinter dem Efod. Wenn du es nehmen willst, nimm es! Außer diesem gibt es keines hier. David sagte: Kein anderes kommt ihm gleich; gib es mir!
11 That same day David took to flight from Saul, going to Achish, king of Gath.	11 David brach noch am gleichen Tag auf und floh vor Saul. Er kam zu Achisch, dem König von Gat.
12 But the servants of Achish said, "Is this not David, the king of the land? During their dances do they not sing, 'Saul has slain his thousands, but David his ten thousands'?"	12 Doch die Diener des Achisch sagten zu ihrem Herrn: Ist das nicht David, der König des Landes? Ist das nicht der, von dem man beim Reigentanz gesungen hat: Saul hat Tausend erschlagen, David aber Zehntausend?
13 David took note of these remarks and became very much afraid of Achish, king of Gath.	13 David nahm sich diese Worte zu Herzen und er fürchtete sich sehr vor Achisch, dem König von Gat.
14 So, as they watched, he feigned insanity and acted like a madman in their hands, drumming on the doors of the gate and drooling onto his beard.	14 Darum verstellte er sich vor ihnen und tat in ihrer Gegenwart so, als sei er wahnsinnig; er kritzelte auf die Flügel des Tores und ließ sich den Speichel in den Bart laufen.
15 Finally Achish said to his servants: "You see the man is mad. Why did you bring him to me?	15 Achisch sagte zu seinen Dienern: Seht ihr nicht, dass der Mann verrückt ist? Warum bringt ihr ihn zu mir?
16 Do I not have enough madmen, that you bring in this one to carry on in my presence? Should this fellow come into my house?"	16 Gibt es bei mir nicht schon genug Verrückte, sodass ihr auch noch diesen Mann zu mir herbringt, damit er bei mir verrückt spielt? Soll der etwa auch noch in mein Haus kommen?
