Ruth 3

1 When she was back with her mother-in-law, Naomi said to her, "My daughter, I must seek a home for you that will please you.	1 Poi Noemi sua suocera le disse: «Figlia mia, non dovrei cercarti una sistemazione, perché tu sia felice?
2 Now is not Boaz, with whose servants you were, a relative of ours? This evening he will be winnowing barley at the threshing floor.	2 Ora non è forse nostro parente questo Booz con i giovani del quale ti sei trovata? Ecco, egli questa sera si trattiene a vagliare l’orzo sull’aia.
3 So bathe and anoint yourself; then put on your best attire and go down to the threshing floor. Do not make yourself known to the man before he has finished eating and drinking.	3 Allora tu lavati e profumati, poi mettiti il velo e scendi all’aia. Non lasciarti riconoscere da lui finché non abbia finito di mangiare e di bere.
4 But when he lies down, take note of the place where he does so. Then go, uncover a place at his feet, and lie down. He will tell you what to do."	4 Quando si coricherà, allora tu osserverai il luogo in cui dormirà, andrai là, gli scoprirai i piedi e ti coricherai: penserà lui a farti sapere che cosa devi fare».
5 "I will do whatever you advise," Ruth replied.	5 Essa le rispose: «Farò tutto ciò che mi dirai».
6 So she went down to the threshing floor and did just as her mother-in-law had instructed her.	6 Essa discese sull’aia e fece tutto ciò che la suocera le aveva ordinato.
7 Boaz ate and drank to his heart's content. Then when he went and lay down at the edge of the sheaves, she stole up, uncovered a place at his feet, and lay down.	7 Booz mangiò, bevette e diventò allegro; poi andò a dormire all’estremità del mucchio. Allora essa venne dolcemente, scoprì i suoi piedi e si coricò.
8 In the middle of the night, however, the man gave a start and turned around to find a woman lying at his feet.	8 A metà della notte l’uomo ebbe un brivido: guardò intorno, ed ecco una donna coricata ai suoi piedi!
9 He asked, "Who are you?" And she replied, "I am your servant Ruth. Spread the corner of your cloak over me, for you are my next of kin."	9 Egli disse: «Chi sei?» Essa rispose: «Sono Rut la tua schiava: tu devi quindi stendere il lembo del tuo mantello sulla tua schiava, poiché tu sei il riscattatore».
10 He said, "May the LORD bless you, my daughter! You have been even more loyal now than before in not going after the young men, whether poor or rich.	10 Egli disse: «Benedetta sei tu da Jahvè, figlia mia! Questo tuo secondo atto di pietà è migliore del primo, poiché non ti curi di seguire i giovani, poveri o ricchi.
11 So be assured, daughter, I will do for you whatever you say; all my townspeople know you for a worthy woman.	11 Ora dunque, figlia mia, non temere: farò per te tutto ciò che dirai, poiché tutta la porta del mio popolo sa che tu sei una donna di virtù.
12 Now, though indeed I am closely related to you, you have another relative still closer.	12 Ora, sì, veramente io sono riscattatore: ma c’è un riscattatore più prossimo di me.
13 Stay as you are for tonight, and tomorrow, if he wishes to claim you, good! let him do so. But if he does not wish to claim you, as the LORD lives, I will claim you myself. Lie there until morning."	13 Rimani per questa notte: domani mattina se, come riscattatore, egli intende sposarti, bene, ti riscatti; se non intende riscattarti lui, ti riscatterò io. Per la vita di Jahvè! Dormi fino al mattino».
14 So she lay at his feet until morning, but rose before men could recognize one another. Boaz said, "Let it not be known that this woman came to the threshing floor."	14 Essa dormì ai suoi piedi fino al mattino. Egli si levò prima che un uomo possa distinguerne un altro, perché pensava: «Non si deve sapere che la donna è venuta sull’aia».
15 Then he said to her, "Take off your cloak and hold it out." When she did so, he poured out six measures of barley, helped her lift the bundle, and left for the city.	15 Le disse: «Porgi il mantello che hai indosso e tienilo ben fermo». Essa lo tenne fermo ed egli prese sei misure di orzo e la caricò. Essa andò in città
16 Ruth went home to her mother-in-law, who asked, "How have you fared, my daughter?" So she told her all the man had done for her,	16 e venne dalla suocera, che le disse: «Che ne è di te, figlia mia?» Essa le riferì tutto ciò che quegli aveva fatto per lei.
17 and concluded, "He gave me these six measures of barley because he did not wish me to come back to my mother-in-law emptyhanded!"	17 «Queste sei misure» aggiunse poi «me le ha date, dicendo: “Non devi tornare da tua suocera a mani vuote”».
18 Naomi then said, "Wait here, my daughter, until you learn what happens, for the man will not rest, but will settle the matter today."	18 Noemi disse: «Sta’ tranquilla, figlia mia, finché tu non sappia come andrà la faccenda: poiché egli non resterà quieto se non l’avrà conclusa oggi».
