1 This is now, beloved, the second letter I am writing to you; through them by way of reminder I am trying to stir up your sincere disposition,	1 Esta es ya, queridos míos, la segunda carta que os escribo. Con ellas quiero suscitar en vosotros, a base de recuerdos, un sano criterio
2 to recall the words previously spoken by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and savior through your apostles.	2 para recordar los mensajes emitidos por los santos profetas y el mandamiento del Señor y Salvador transmitido por los apóstoles;
3 Know this first of all, that in the last days scoffers will come (to) scoff, living according to their own desires	3 sabiendo, ante todo, que en los últimos días vendrán burlones con todo tipo de burlas, que actuarán conforme a sus propias pretensiones
4 and saying, "Where is the promise of his coming? From the time when our ancestors fell asleep, everything has remained as it was from the beginning of creation."	4 y dirán: «¿En qué queda la promesa de su venida? Pues desde que los padres murieron todo sigue igual, como desde el principio de la creación».
5 They deliberately ignore the fact that the heavens existed of old and earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God;	5 Porque intencionadamente se les escapa que desde antiguo existieron unos cielos y también una tierra surgida del agua y establecida en medio del agua gracias a la palabra de Dios;
6 through these the world that then existed was destroyed, deluged with water.	6 por eso el mundo de entonces pereció anegado por el agua.
7 The present heavens and earth have been reserved by the same word for fire, kept for the day of judgment and of destruction of the godless.	7 Pero ahora los cielos y la tierra custodiados por esa misma palabra están reservados para el fuego en el día del juicio y de la perdición de los hombres impíos.
8 But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years and a thousand years like one day.	8 Mas no olvidéis una cosa, queridos míos, que para el Señor un día es como mil años y mil años como un día.
9 The Lord does not delay his promise, as some regard "delay," but he is patient with you, not wishing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.	9 El Señor no retrasa su promesa, como piensan algunos, sino que tiene paciencia con vosotros, porque no quiere que nadie se pierda sino que todos accedan a la conversión.
10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a mighty roar and the elements will be dissolved by fire, and the earth and everything done on it will be found out.	10 Pero el Día del Señor llegará como un ladrón. Entonces los cielos desaparecerán estrepitosamente, los elementos se disolverán abrasados y la tierra con cuantas obras hay en ella quedará al descubierto.
11 Since everything is to be dissolved in this way, what sort of persons ought (you) to be, conducting yourselves in holiness and devotion,	11 Puesto que todas estas cosas van a disolverse de este modo, ¡qué santa y piadosa debe ser vuestra conducta,
12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved in flames and the elements melted by fire.	12 mientras esperáis y apresuráis la llegada del Día de Dios! Ese día los cielos se disolverán incendiados y los elementos se derretirán abrasados.
13 But according to his promise we await new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.	13 Pero nosotros, según su promesa, esperamos unos cielos nuevos y una tierra nueva en los que habite la justicia.
14 Therefore, beloved, since you await these things, be eager to be found without spot or blemish before him, at peace.	14 Por eso, queridos míos, mientras esperáis estos acontecimientos, procurad que Dios os encuentre en paz con él, intachables e irreprochables,
15 And consider the patience of our Lord as salvation, as our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, also wrote to you,	15 y considerad que la paciencia de nuestro Señor es nuestra salvación, según os escribió también nuestro querido hermano Pablo conforme a la sabiduría que le fue concedida;
16 speaking of these things as he does in all his letters. In them there are some things hard to understand that the ignorant and unstable distort to their own destruction, just as they do the other scriptures.	16 tal como dice en todas las cartas en las que trata estas cosas. En ellas hay ciertamente algunas cuestiones difíciles de entender, que los ignorantes e inestables tergiversan como hacen con las demás Escrituras para su propia perdición.
17 Therefore, beloved, since you are forewarned, be on your guard not to be led into the error of the unprincipled and to fall from your own stability.	17 Así pues, queridos míos, ya que estáis prevenidos, estad en guardia para que no os arrastre el error de esa gente sin principios ni decaiga vuestra firmeza.
18 But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory now and to the day of eternity. (Amen.)	18 Por el contrario, creced en la gracia y en el conocimiento de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo. A él la gloria ahora y hasta el día eterno. Amén.
