Deuteronomy 31

1 When Moses had finished speaking these words to all Israel,	1 Nun ging Mose daran, folgende Worte an ganz Israel zu richten;
2 he said to them, "I am now one hundred and twenty years old and am no longer able to move about freely; besides, the LORD has told me that I shall not cross this Jordan.	2 er sagte zu ihnen: »Ich bin heute 120 Jahre alt: ich vermag nicht mehr den Anforderungen meines Amtes zu genügen; auch hat der HERR zu mir gesagt: ›Du sollst den Jordan da nicht überschreiten!‹
3 It is the LORD, your God, who will cross before you; he will destroy these nations before you, that you may supplant them. (It is Joshua who will cross before you, as the LORD promised.)	3 Der HERR, dein Gott, wird selbst an deiner Spitze hinüberziehen: er selbst wird diese Völker vor dir her vernichten, daß du ihr Land in Besitz nehmen kannst. Josua wird an deiner Spitze hinüberziehen, wie der HERR geboten hat,
4 The LORD will deal with them just as he dealt with Sihon and Og, the kings of the Amorites whom he destroyed, and with their country.	4 und der HERR wird mit ihnen verfahren, wie er mit Sihon und Og, den Königen der Amoriter, und mit ihrem Lande verfahren ist, die er vernichtet hat.
5 When, therefore, the LORD delivers them up to you, you must deal with them exactly as I have ordered you.	5 Wenn der HERR sie aber in eure Gewalt gibt, so sollt ihr mit ihnen genau nach der Weisung verfahren, die ich euch gegeben habe.
6 Be brave and steadfast; have no fear or dread of them, for it is the LORD, your God, who marches with you; he will never fail you or forsake you."	6 Seid mutig und stark! Fürchtet euch nicht und seid ohne Angst vor ihnen! Denn der HERR, dein Gott, zieht selbst mit dir: er wird dir seine Hilfe nicht versagen und dich nicht verlassen.«
7 Then Moses summoned Joshua and in the presence of all Israel said to him, "Be brave and steadfast, for you must being this people into the land which the LORD swore to their fathers he would give them; you must put them in possession of their heritage.	7 Hierauf berief Mose den Josua und sagte zu ihm in Gegenwart aller Israeliten: »Sei mutig und stark! Denn du sollst mit diesem Volk in das Land kommen, dessen Besitz der HERR ihren Vätern zugeschworen hat, und du sollst es als Erbbesitz unter sie verteilen.
8 It is the LORD who marches before you; he will be with you and will never fail you or forsake you. So do not fear or be dismayed."	8 Der HERR selbst aber wird vor dir herziehen; er wird mit dir sein, wird dir seine Hilfe nicht versagen und dich nicht verlassen: fürchte dich nicht und sei ohne Angst!«
9 When Moses had written down this law, he entrusted it to the levitical priests who carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and to all the elders of Israel,	9 Dann schrieb Mose dieses Gesetz nieder und übergab es den Priestern, den Leviten, welche die Lade mit dem Bundesgesetze des HERRN zu tragen hatten, und allen Ältesten Israels.
10 giving them this order: "On the feast of Booths, at the prescribed time in the year of relaxation which comes at the end of every seven-year period,	10 Mose gab ihnen dabei folgenden Befehl: »Alle sieben Jahre, zur festgesetzten Zeit des Erlaßjahres (vgl. 15,1), am Laubhüttenfeste (16,13),
11 when all Israel goes to appear before the LORD, your God, in the place which he chooses, you shall read this law aloud in the presence of all Israel.	11 wenn ganz Israel sich einfindet, um vor dem HERRN, deinem Gott, an der Stätte zu erscheinen, die er erwählen wird, sollst du dieses Gesetz vor ganz Israel laut vorlesen, so daß alle es hören.
12 Assemble the people--men, women and children, as well as the aliens who live in your communities--that they may hear it and learn it, and so fear the LORD, your God, and carefully observe all the words of this law.	12 Laß das Volk, die Männer, die Frauen und die Kinder, auch die Fremdlinge, die bei dir in deinen Ortschaften wohnen, sich versammeln, damit sie es hören und kennenlernen und den HERRN, euren Gott, fürchten und alle Bestimmungen dieses Gesetzes gewissenhaft befolgen.
13 Their children also, who do not know it yet, must hear it and learn it, that they too may fear the LORD, your God, as long as you live on the land which you will cross the Jordan to occupy."	13 Auch ihre Kinder, die es noch nicht kennen, sollen es hören, damit sie den HERRN, euren Gott, fürchten lernen während der ganzen Zeit, die ihr in dem Lande leben werdet, in das ihr jetzt über den Jordan zieht, um es in Besitz zu nehmen.«
14 The LORD said to Moses, "The time is now approaching for you to die. Summon Joshua, and present yourselves at the meeting tent that I may give him his commission." So Moses and Joshua went and presented themselves at the meeting tent.	14 Hierauf sagte der HERR zu Mose: »Nun ist die Zeit für dich gekommen, daß du sterben mußt. Rufe Josua und tretet in das Offenbarungszelt, damit ich ihn zu seinem Amt bestelle!« Da gingen Mose und Josua hin und traten in das Offenbarungszelt;
15 And the LORD appeared at the tent in a column of cloud, which stood still at the entrance of the tent.	15 der HERR aber erschien im Zelte in einer Wolkensäule, und die Wolkensäule blieb am Eingang des Zeltes stehen.
16 The LORD said to Moses, "Soon you will be at rest with your fathers, and then this people will take to rendering wanton worship to the strange gods among whom they will live in the land they are about to enter. They will forsake me and break the covenant which I have made with them.	16 Da sagte der HERR zu Mose: »Du bist nun im Begriff, dich zu deinen Vätern zu legen; dann wird dieses Volk sich daranmachen, mit den fremden Göttern inmitten des Landes, in das es jetzt einzieht, Abgötterei zu treiben; es wird mich dann verlassen und den Bund mit mir, den ich mit ihnen geschlossen habe, brechen.
17 At that time my anger will flare up against them; I will forsake them and hide my face from them, so that they will become a prey to be devoured, and many evils and troubles will befall them. At that time they will indeed say, 'Is it not because our God is not among us that these evils have befallen us?'	17 Da wird dann mein Zorn gegen sie zu jener Zeit entbrennen, und ich werde sie verlassen und mein Angesicht vor ihnen verbergen; dann wird es der Vertilgung anheimfallen, und viele Leiden und Drangsale werden es treffen. Da wird es dann zu jener Zeit sagen: ›Haben diese Leiden mich nicht deshalb getroffen, weil mein Gott nicht mehr in meiner Mitte ist?‹
18 Yet I will be hiding my face from them at that time only because of all the evil they have done in turning to other gods.	18 Ich aber will dann zu jener Zeit mein Angesicht gänzlich (vor ihm) verbergen wegen all des Bösen, das dieses Volk verübt hat, indem es sich anderen Göttern zuwandte.«
19 Write out this song, then, for yourselves. Teach it to the Israelites and have them recite it, so that this song may be a witness for me against the Israelites.	19 »Und nun schreibt euch das nachfolgende Lied auf und lehre es die Israeliten; lege es ihnen in den Mund, damit dieses Lied mir zum Zeugnis gegen die Israeliten diene.
20 For when I have brought them into the land flowing with milk and honey which I promised on oath to their fathers, and they have eaten their fill and grown fat, if they turn to other gods and serve them, despising me and breaking my covenant;	20 Denn ich werde sie allerdings in das Land bringen, das ich ihren Vätern zugeschworen habe, (ein Land,) das von Milch und Honig überfließt; aber wenn sie dann essen und satt werden und fett geworden sind, werden sie sich anderen Göttern zuwenden und ihnen dienen, mich aber werden sie verwerfen und den Bund mit mir brechen.
21 then, when many evils and troubles befall them, this song, which their descendants will not have forgotten to recite, will bear witness against them. For I know what they are inclined to do even at the present time, before I have brought them into the land which I promised on oath to their fathers."	21 Wenn dann viele Leiden und Drangsale sie treffen, dann soll dieses Lied – denn es wird im Munde ihrer Nachkommen unvergessen fortleben – Zeugnis gegen sie ablegen, daß ich ihr Sinnen und Trachten, mit dem sie schon heute umgehen, gekannt habe, noch ehe ich sie in das Land habe gelangen lassen, das ich (ihnen) zugeschworen habe.«
22 So Moses wrote this song that same day, and he taught it to the Israelites.	22 So schrieb denn Mose dieses Lied noch an demselben Tage auf und lehrte es die Israeliten;
23 Then the LORD commissioned Joshua, son of Nun, and said to him, "Be brave and steadfast, for it is you who must bring the Israelites into the land which I promised them on oath. I myself will be with you."	23 dem Josua aber, dem Sohne Nuns, erteilte der HERR folgenden Auftrag: »Sei mutig und stark! Denn du sollst die Israeliten in das Land bringen, das ich ihnen zugeschworen habe, und ich selbst will mit dir sein.«
24 When Moses had finished writing out on a scroll the words of the law in their entirety,	24 Als nun Mose dieses Gesetz nach seinem Wortlaut vollständig bis zu Ende in ein Buch geschrieben hatte,
25 he gave the Levites who carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD this order:	25 gab er den Leviten, welche die Lade mit dem Bundesgesetze des HERRN zu tragen hatten, folgenden Befehl:
26 "Take this scroll of the law and put it beside the ark of the covenant of the LORD, your God, that there it may be a witness against you.	26 »Nehmt dieses Gesetzbuch und legt es neben die Bundeslade des HERRN, eures Gottes, damit es dort zum Zeugnis gegen euch dient.
27 For I already know how rebellious and stiff-necked you will be. Why, even now, while I am alive among you, you have been rebels against the LORD! How much more, then, after I am dead!	27 Denn ich kenne deine Widerspenstigkeit und deine Halsstarrigkeit wohl. Wenn ihr schon jetzt, während ich noch als Lebender unter euch weile, widerspenstig gegen den HERRN gewesen seid: wieviel mehr wird es da nach meinem Tode so sein!
28 Therefore, assemble all your tribal elders and your officials before me, that I may speak these words for them to hear, and so may call heaven and earth to witness against them.	28 Beruft zu einer Versammlung bei mir alle Ältesten eurer Stämme und eure Obmänner (vgl. 1,15), ich will ihnen diese Worte laut vorlesen und den Himmel und die Erde zu Zeugen gegen sie anrufen.
29 For I know that after my death you are sure to become corrupt and to turn aside from the way along which I directed you, so that evil will befall you in some future age because you have done evil in the LORD'S sight, and provoked him by your deeds."	29 Denn ich weiß, daß ihr nach meinem Tode ganz verwerflich handeln und von dem Wege abweichen werdet, den ich euch zur Pflicht gemacht habe. So wird denn schließlich das Unglück über euch hereinbrechen, weil ihr tun werdet, was dem HERRN mißfällt, indem ihr ihn durch euer ganzes Tun zum Zorn reizt.«
30 Then Moses recited the words of this song from beginning to end, for the whole assembly of Israel to hear:	30 Hierauf trug Mose der ganzen Gemeindeversammlung der Israeliten den Wortlaut des folgenden Liedes bis zu Ende vor:
