Deuteronomy 29

1 Moses summoned all Israel and said to them, "You have seen all that the LORD did in the land of Egypt before your very eyes to Pharaoh and all his servants and to all his land;	1 Mosè convocò tutto Israele e disse loro: "Voi avete visto tutto ciò che il Signore fece sotto i vostri occhi nella terra d'Egitto contro il faraone, contro tutti i suoi servi e contro tutta la sua terra,
2 the great testings your own eyes have seen, and those great signs and wonders.	2 le grandi prove che hanno visto i tuoi occhi, quei segni e prodigi grandiosi.
3 But not even at the present day has the LORD yet given you a mind to understand, or eyes to see, or ears to hear.	3 Ma fino ad oggi il Signore non vi ha dato cuore per capire, occhi per vedere, orecchie per sentire.
4 'I led you for forty years in the desert. Your clothes did not fall from you in tatters nor your sandals from your feet;	4 Vi ho guidati per quarant'anni nel deserto: non si sono logorati i mantelli addosso a voi, i sandali non si sono logorati ai vostri piedi;
5 bread was not your food, nor wine or beer your drink. Thus you should know that I, the LORD, am your God.'	5 non avete mangiato pane, né avete bevuto vino o bevanda inebriante, perché sappiate che io sono il Signore, vostro Dio.
6 When we came to this place, Sihon, king of Heshbon, and Og, king of Bashan, came out to engage us in battle, but we defeated them	6 Siete arrivati in questo luogo: Sicon re di Chesbon e Og re di Basan ci sono usciti contro in battaglia, ma li abbiamo battuti;
7 and took over their land, which we then gave as a heritage to the Reubenites, Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh.	7 abbiamo preso la loro terra e l'abbiamo data in eredità ai Rubeniti, ai Gaditi e a metà della tribù dei Manassiti.
8 Keep the terms of this covenant, therefore, and fulfill them, that you may succeed in whatever you do.	8 Osservate le parole di questa alleanza e mettetele in pratica, affinché abbiate successo in tutto ciò che fate.
9 "You are all now standing before the LORD, your God--your chiefs and judges, your elders and officials, and all of the men of Israel,	9 Voi state oggi tutti al cospetto del Signore vostro Dio: i vostri capitribù, i vostri giudici, i vostri anziani, i vostri scribi, tutti gli uomini d'Israele,
10 together with your wives and children and the aliens who live in your camp, down to those who hew wood and draw water for you--	10 i vostri fanciulli, le vostre donne e il forestiero che è in mezzo al tuo accampamento, da quello che taglia la tua legna a quello che attinge la tua acqua,
11 that you may enter into the covenant of the LORD, your God, which he concluded with you today under this sanction of a curse;	11 per entrare nell'alleanza del Signore tuo Dio e nel patto che il Signore tuo Dio stringe con te oggi,
12 so that he may now establish you as his people and he may be your God, as he promised you and as he swore to your fathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.	12 per costituirti oggi come suo popolo, e per essere egli Dio per te, come ti ha detto e come ha giurato ai tuoi padri, ad Abramo, a Isacco e a Giacobbe.
13 But it is not with you alone that I am making this covenant, under this sanction of a curse;	13 Non con voi soltanto io sancisco questa alleanza e questo patto,
14 it is just as much with those who are not here among us today as it is with those of us who are now here present before the LORD, our God.	14 ma tanto con chi sta qui con noi oggi al cospetto del Signore nostro Dio, quanto con chi non è qui con noi oggi.
15 "You know in what surroundings we lived in the land of Egypt and what we passed by in the nations we traversed,	15 Perché voi sapete come abbiamo abitato nella terra d'Egitto e come siamo passati in mezzo alle nazioni che avete attraversato;
16 and you saw the loathsome idols of wood and stone, of gold and silver, that they possess.	16 avete visto le loro nefandezze e gl'idoli di legno e pietra, di argento e oro che sono presso di loro.
17 Let there be, then, no man or woman, no clan or tribe among you, who would now turn away their hearts from the LORD, our God, to go and serve these pagan gods! Let there be no root that would bear such poison and wormwood among you.	17 Non vi sia tra voi uomo o donna, famiglia o tribù il cui cuore si allontani oggi dal Signore nostro Dio per andare a servire gli dèi di quelle nazioni. Non vi sia tra di voi nessuna radice che produca veleno e assenzio!
18 If any such person, upon hearing the words of this curse, should beguile himself into thinking that he can safely persist in his stubbornness of heart, as though to sweep away both the watered soil and the parched ground,	18 Se, nell'ascoltare le parole di questo patto, qualcuno si benedice nel proprio cuore, dicendo: "Avrò pace anche camminando nella caparbietà del mio cuore, rendendo irriguo l'arido",
19 the LORD will never consent to pardon him. Instead, the LORD'S wrath and jealousy will flare up against that man, and every curse mentioned in this book will alight on him. The LORD will blot out his name from under the heavens	19 il Signore non acconsentirà a perdonarlo, ché anzi la collera e la gelosia del Signore si infiammeranno contro quell'uomo e tutte le imprecazioni scritte in questo libro scenderanno sopra di lui: il Signore cancellerà il suo nome sotto il cielo,
20 and will single him out from all the tribes of Israel for doom, in keeping with all the curses of the covenant inscribed in this book of the law.	20 per sua sventura lo separerà da tutte le tribù d'Israele, secondo tutte le imprecazioni dell'alleanza scritta in questo libro della legge.
21 "Future generations, your own descendants who will rise up after you, as well as the foreigners who will come here from far-off lands, when they see the calamities of this land and the ills with which the LORD has smitten it--	21 La generazione futura, i vostri figli che sorgeranno dopo di voi e lo straniero che verrà da una terra lontana vedranno i flagelli di questa terra e le malattie che il Signore le infliggerà e diranno:
22 all its soil being nothing but sulphur and salt, a burnt-out waste, unsown and unfruitful, without a blade of grass, destroyed like Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the LORD overthrew in his furious wrath--	22 "Zolfo, sale, arsura è tutta la sua terra! Non sarà seminata, non darà alcun germoglio, su di essa non crescerà erba alcuna; è come la distruzione di Sodoma, Gomorra, Adma e Zeboim che il Signore distrusse nella sua ira e nel suo furore".
23 they and all the nations will ask, 'Why has the LORD dealt thus with this land? Why this fierce outburst of wrath?'	23 E tutte le nazioni diranno: "Perché il Signore ha fatto così a questa terra? Perché l'ardore di questa grande ira?".
24 And the answer will be, 'Because they forsook the covenant which the LORD, the God of their fathers, had made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt,	24 E risponderanno: "Perché hanno abbandonato l'alleanza del Signore, Dio dei loro padri, che egli aveva stretto con loro quando uscirono dalla terra d'Egitto,
25 and they went and served other gods and adored them, gods whom they did not know and whom he had not let fall to their lot:	25 e sono andati a servire altri dèi prostrandosi innanzi a loro: dèi che non avevano conosciuto e che non aveva dato loro in sorte;
26 that is why the LORD was angry with this land and brought on it all the imprecations listed in this book;	26 allora si è infiammata la collera del Signore contro questa terra, così da farle venir sopra tutte le maledizioni scritte in questo libro.
27 in his furious wrath and tremendous anger the LORD uprooted them from their soil and cast them out into a strange land, where they are today.'	27 Il Signore li ha strappati dalla loro terra con collera, con furore e con grande indignazione e li ha gettati su un'altra terra, com'è fino ad oggi".
28 (Both what is still hidden and what has already been revealed concern us and our descendants forever, that we may carry out all the words of this law.)	28 Le cose occulte sono del Signore nostro Dio, ma le cose rivelate sono nostre e dei nostri figli per sempre, affinché mettiamo in pratica tutte le parole di questa legge.
